Animal Dermatology Clinic Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For pet owners across the vast state of California, addressing specialized health concerns for their beloved companions often requires seeking out veterinary experts beyond general practice. When it comes to persistent skin, ear, and allergy issues, the Animal Dermatology Clinic in Long Beach stands as a highly specialized facility dedicated to these complex conditions. As a part of a larger group of clinics globally, the Long Beach location offers focused expertise in veterinary dermatology, aiming to provide advanced diagnostics and tailored treatment plans for pets suffering from chronic or severe dermatological problems. Unlike a general vet clinic, this practice delves deep into the nuances of skin and ear diseases, employing board-certified veterinary dermatologists who have undergone extensive training in this specific field. While their technical medical capabilities are generally recognized, it's important for potential clients to consider the holistic experience of care, as highlighted by some recent feedback. For California residents whose pets struggle with dermatological ailments, the Animal Dermatology Clinic in Long Beach provides a dedicated pathway to diagnosis and management, striving to improve the quality of life for animals affected by these often frustrating conditions.
Location and Accessibility
The Animal Dermatology Clinic is conveniently located at 3924 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach, CA 90807, USA. This address places the specialized clinic within the heart of Long Beach, a major city in Southern California. Atlantic Avenue is a significant thoroughfare, ensuring that the clinic is relatively easy to access for pet owners traveling from various parts of Long Beach, as well as from surrounding cities in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. For California locals navigating urban environments, ease of access to a specialized veterinary clinic is crucial, especially when a pet might be uncomfortable due to a skin condition. The presence of a dedicated specialty clinic in a central Long Beach location means less travel time for consultations and follow-up visits. While specific details on parking or public transport accessibility are not explicitly provided, a location on a major avenue typically offers either street parking or designated lot options. This accessibility is vital for pet owners seeking specialized care, often for chronic conditions requiring multiple visits, ensuring a more convenient experience for both pet and owner.
Services Offered
The Animal Dermatology Clinic specializes exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of dermatological conditions affecting pets. Their services are designed to address a wide array of complex skin, ear, and allergy issues, often chronic and frustrating for both pets and their owners. As a specialized clinic, they focus on:
- Allergy Testing & Management:
- Intradermal allergy testing (the "gold standard" for environmental allergies).
- Serum allergy testing (blood tests for environmental allergens).
- Food allergy diagnostics (through elimination diets and guidance).
- Development of allergen-specific immunotherapy (allergy shots or drops).
- Ear Disease & Video Otoscopy:
- Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of chronic and recurrent ear infections (otitis externa and media).
- Video otoscopy for thorough examination of the ear canal and eardrum, allowing for precise cleaning and foreign body removal.
- Chronic Skin Disorders: Diagnosis and management of a wide variety of persistent skin issues including:
- Autoimmune skin diseases.
- Hormonal skin disorders.
- Fungal infections (e.g., ringworm, yeast infections).
- Bacterial infections (pyoderma).

- Biopsies and histopathology (sending samples to a specialized lab for detailed analysis).
- Fungal cultures.
- Surgical Procedures: Performing dermatological-related surgeries as needed, such as mass removals, ear canal ablations, or biopsies.

It is important to understand that as a specialty clinic, they typically require a referral from a primary veterinarian and do not provide general veterinary services like routine vaccinations, spay/neuter, or emergency care for non-dermatological issues.
Features / Highlights
- Board-Certified Veterinary Dermatologists: The clinic employs highly specialized, board-certified veterinarians (such as Dr. Taketa and Dr. Muse) who have undergone extensive training specifically in dermatology, making them experts in skin, ear, and allergy conditions. This deep expertise is a significant technical highlight.
- Advanced Diagnostic Tools: Utilization of state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and techniques, including video otoscopy and various in-house tests, ensures precise and thorough assessment of complex dermatological issues.
- Specialized Treatment Plans: Given their focus, the clinic develops highly tailored and advanced treatment plans for chronic and challenging cases, offering solutions that general practitioners might not.
- Expertise in Allergies: A core strength is their comprehensive approach to allergies, from detailed testing (like intradermal testing) to developing long-term management strategies, including immunotherapy.
- Commitment to Research and Education: As part of the broader Animal Dermatology Group, the clinic is involved in research, diagnosis, treatment, and education of dermatological conditions, suggesting a commitment to advancing the field.
However, it is crucial to address the feedback provided by some real customers. While the "technical" medical care is acknowledged as good, some clients have expressed significant disappointment regarding patient and family care beyond the medical aspect. Concerns raised include a perceived lack of empathy or communication after a pet's passing (initially), difficulty with prescription refills and information sharing between the specialist and the primary vet, and a sense of being treated as "just a credit card." One updated review did acknowledge a generous and thoughtful gesture from Dr. Taketa, indicating a potential improvement or individual responsiveness. These points suggest that while the medical expertise is robust, client experience with administrative processes and emotional support may vary and are areas where some clients felt let down.

Animal Dermatology Clinic Reviews
The doctors are good technically, but all in all you are nothing but a credit card to them. My dog was a patient for two years, and when he died suddenly (through no fault of the theirs), there were no condolences, no concern, no phone call, no card from anyone. We spent thousands of dollars at the clinic and visited monthly or more. I notified them when it happened, and we had just been to the office the week before. Dr. Taketa never called or emailed; no one from the office reached out in any way. While the medical care here is good, it is beyond disappointing that they care so little about their patients and families.Update six weeks later - Dr Taketa personally made a donation in our dogs name to fund research to help treat conditions our dog had. It was a very generous and thoughtful way to honor him. We really appreciate her care.
Apr 09, 2023 · Heather LeiderUnfortunately it has been a very disappointing and expensive experience here. Almost every visit, I have to repeat the same information from our first visit including medication they keep recommending that my cat has had bad reactions too. Our vet, Dr. Muse, is rarely available and when I needed a prescription food that the vet here told me to get, the front office wouldn’t approve the petco request and made it very difficult since they didn’t have it in stock themselves. I called just last week because they had sent misinformation that was not up to date to my current vet and when I called they said my vet was in the office and would call back, which he never did. This is a common theme within my experience. Seeing all these good reviews surprised me, maybe they focus more on dogs. I hate writing bad reviews and this might be the first, but it has been the worst vet experience I’ve ever had.
Nov 16, 2022 · Chelsea M.Determined how to best support our cat with eosinophilic granuloma and now that we've found a diet that works, we no longer have to give her daily meds and she hasn't had a single flare up. Informative, kind, helpful. Highly recommend. Note, we worked with Dr. Muse
Jul 12, 2023 · NikkiReally liked Dr. MUSE and Christina his tech.So informative and I felt they were both concerned about Cooper. Unfortunately, Cooper won't eat the Veterinary diet kibble Doc suggested. I add Just Food for Dogs fish diet (small amt.) And he'll eat the kibbles that way.Great Dermatology clinic!!!!
Jul 26, 2021 · Robin MizukiEveryone here is very friendly & efficient, Dr Muse is the most informative & caring vet we've ever encountered. They give all the treatment options & let you decide what route you want to take without pressuring you to spend extra like a lot of vets do.
