We strongly urge you to call us before you head to our clinic. This allows our team to prepare for your pet's arrival and provide you with crucial advice for your journey.
When faced with a pet emergency, the most important thing is to get your animal professional help as quickly as possible. What is worth choosing about the Animal Emergency Clinic is that we are a dedicated emergency facility. While some customer reviews mention less than ideal experiences, such as a pet's problem not being immediately identified or a perception of a lack of a doctor on-site, it is important to understand the context of an emergency clinic. An emergency setting is often chaotic, and the top priority is to stabilize the animal. The reviews highlight the critical role we play as a safety net. The client who was frustrated that their pet's choking was not diagnosed highlights a difficult reality—that some conditions can be hard to pinpoint immediately, even for professionals, and pet owners themselves are often a key part of the diagnostic puzzle. In the case of the pet who lost a toe, the clinic's response, while frustrating for the owner, may have been due to a protocol that prevents technicians from performing certain medical procedures without a veterinarian present. The clinic's website confirms that they are open during specific after-hours, and that they "strongly encourage you to call first, so we can better prepare for your pet's arrival," which implies that the presence of a doctor may vary and is best confirmed with a call.
Despite these individual frustrations, the fact remains that we are a vital service for the community. When a pet has a severe accident, or an unexpected health crisis happens after hours, the Animal Emergency Clinic is one of the only places to turn. The value we provide is in our availability and our specialized equipment. We are equipped for intensive care, blood transfusions, and other critical procedures that a regular vet's office may not have the capacity for. Choosing the Animal Emergency Clinic means choosing a safety net for your pet when a crisis occurs, a place that is prepared to handle the most severe situations with dedicated resources. While we understand the frustrations some clients have experienced, our commitment to providing a place for pets in need during off-hours remains a cornerstone of our service to the Bloomington community. We are here to help when your pet cannot wait.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Took us back immediately which was reassuring. The vet technician seemed more worried about my dog than the vet did though.. They couldn’t figure out what the problem was. My dog was coughing after eating some kibble and developed a cough. Since he had been at the groomer recently they were thinking kennel cough. Well after we got released we sat in the car in the parking lot for a bit, he started doing the coughing fit again and I smacked his back hard as I could (I thought he could be choking).. well, a piece of kibble came flying out of his mouth after I did that. Whole time he was choking. 😩
June 30 · Taylor HieronymusI called them at around 9pm after my pet had an accident and lost one of his toes. They did NOTHING. They said they had no doctor present and couldn't perform medicine. I asked if they could just bandage him up until the morning when I could get him to our normal vet and they said, and I quote, "absolutely not." What's the point of a vet that can't practice medicine? I do not recommend calling them if you're having an emergency, it will just waste your time. Please fix this! People who are having emergencies need some sort of medical advice at the very least, not just a suggestion to call another vet that's an hour away!
May 07 · Melody MartinVery detailed & caring staff. Thank you for helping with Jesse! Thank you for all you do for the pets & animals in the community & giving families the place they need in emergency situations.
July 06 · Rebecca HeerdtOur cat started having trouble breathing around 10:30pm on a holiday. Staff (shout out to Nico) were friendly, understanding, and helpful. It's expensive, and the wait is long, but that is to be expected at an Emergency Veterinarian Clinic with only one vet and a few techs. Nico and Dr. Josh were great! Lil' Smokey is thankful that they helped him breathe easier.
July 05 · Kendra MTook my 15 yr old dog there today after she was bit by another dog. I called ahead and office staff was extremely friendly and took some basic info. When I arrived, they knew exactly who I was and took me back to a room immediately. The vet tech and Veterinarian were super friendly, amazing with my old girl, and didn’t do anything unnecessary and talked with me through every step of the process. The bill was extremely reasonable at the end, especially for an emergency visit. I will definitely be coming back if I ever need an emergency vet again.
