Apple Country Veterinary Hospital has a legacy in the Hilton community, known for providing veterinary services to a diverse range of pets. For many years, under previous ownership, it fostered strong relationships with pet owners, establishing a reputation built on trust and a deep understanding of specific breed needs, such as bulldogs. However, as with any long-standing local business, transitions occur, and recent changes in practice ownership have led to varied experiences among its loyal customer base.
This overview aims to provide a factual and balanced perspective for New Yorkers considering Apple Country Veterinary Hospital for their pet's care. We will explore the clinic's location, the services typically offered by a veterinary practice, and delve into recent customer feedback, which provides valuable insights into the current state of operations and client relations. Understanding these dynamics is essential for new and existing clients alike as they navigate their pet health decisions in the New York region.

North Avenue is a well-known local thoroughfare, which typically ensures ease of navigation for both regular clients and those visiting for the first time.
For New York locals, the ease of access to veterinary care is a critical factor, whether for routine check-ups or unexpected health concerns. The hospital's location on a main road likely provides convenient parking options, which is a significant benefit for pet owners often managing anxious pets or multiple supplies. Its position within a community-focused area means it is seamlessly integrated into daily life, making it simple to incorporate pet health visits into regular routines. While specific details about the full range of services under the new management are not exhaustively detailed in the provided reviews, a typical veterinary hospital like Apple Country Veterinary Hospital would generally offer a comprehensive suite of services to address various pet health needs. Based on common veterinary practices, these would likely include:
General Wellness and Preventive Care: This foundational service includes routine physical examinations, vaccinations tailored to a pet's lifestyle and risk factors, parasite prevention (flea, tick, heartworm), and nutritional counseling. Regular wellness exams are crucial for early detection of potential health issues.
Diagnostic Services: To accurately assess and diagnose pet ailments, a modern veterinary hospital typically provides in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal analysis), digital radiography (X-rays) for imaging bones and organs, and potentially ultrasound capabilities for more detailed soft tissue evaluations.
Surgical Procedures: A range of surgical services would be offered, from common procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries. This would include pre-surgical evaluations, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative pain management and care.
Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services, including professional dental cleanings, scaling, polishing, and extractions when necessary, are vital for a pet's overall health and well-being, preventing issues like periodontal disease.
Pharmacy and Prescription Diets: For client convenience, an on-site pharmacy would typically dispense prescription medications, various preventative treatments, and specialized therapeutic diets to support ongoing health conditions.
Client Education and Communication: A strong veterinary practice emphasizes educating pet owners on their pet's health, treatment plans, and preventive measures. This includes clear explanations of diagnoses, discussing treatment options, and providing advice on home care.
It is important for New York residents to contact Apple Country Veterinary Hospital directly for the most current and specific details on their available services, especially given recent changes in ownership.
The provided customer reviews offer a mixed perspective on the current state of Apple Country Veterinary Hospital following its change in ownership. While historical strengths are evident, recent experiences highlight areas of concern.
Historical Reputation for Specialized Care (Under Previous Ownership): Historically, under Dr. Snyder's ownership, the clinic had a strong reputation, particularly for specializing in certain dog breeds like bulldogs. This indicates a prior commitment to focused expertise and a strong rapport with long-term clients.
Compassionate and Loving Service (Under Previous and Some Current Staff): Some reviews, even recent ones, praise the "BEST, most compassionate, loving service they deserve." This suggests that some staff members continue to provide high levels of care and affection for the animals.
Follow-up, Explanations, Professionalism (Positive Aspects Noted by Some): Positive feedback mentions "Their follow up, their explanations, their training and professionalism, their staff are second to none." This indicates that elements of high-quality veterinary practice, such as clear communication and post-visit support, are still present for some clients.
Issue with Communication Regarding Ownership Change: A significant highlight/concern is the lack of prior notification to long-term clients about the passing of the previous owner, Dr. Snyder, and the subsequent change in ownership. This caused surprise and dissatisfaction among loyal, decades-long customers.
Concerns Regarding Transparency and Pricing Under New Management: A specific customer experienced a perceived lack of transparency regarding medication alternatives and pricing. They were told no cheaper alternative existed for an ear cleaner, only to find the same product significantly cheaper elsewhere. This raises concerns about honesty and ethical pricing for long-term, loyal customers, especially those on a fixed income.
Concerns Regarding Thoroughness and Rush of Physical Exams: The same customer noted a "rushed" physical exam for a dog, with noticeable physical modules and hot spots being overlooked or not mentioned by the vet. This directly impacts trust in the quality and thoroughness of the examination despite a charge for a full physical.
Issues with Customer Service and Management Response to Complaints: A critical highlight is the negative experience with attempting to resolve billing concerns. Accusations of yelling, abrupt phone hang-ups, and a general disregard for the customer's issue reflect a significant breakdown in customer service and management's approach to conflict resolution.

Address: 516 North Ave, Hilton, NY 14468, USA
Phone: (585) 392-7387

These contact details serve as the primary means for New Yorkers to connect with Apple Country Veterinary Hospital. It is advisable for prospective or current clients to use these numbers to inquire about current services, staff, pricing policies, and to address any concerns directly before scheduling appointments, especially in light of the recent customer feedback regarding changes in practice.
For residents of Hilton and the wider New York region, Apple Country Veterinary Hospital stands at a crossroads, navigating a transition in ownership and its impact on long-standing client relationships. While historically a trusted and specialized provider of veterinary care, recent customer experiences, as highlighted in the reviews, present a mixed picture for locals considering this clinic.
On one hand, there are indications that the core mission of providing "compassionate, loving service" to pets remains, with some positive feedback praising the staff's dedication and professionalism. This suggests that the individual care for animals might still be a strong point, appealing to New York pet owners who prioritize their pet's comfort and well-being during veterinary visits. The clinic's long history in the community also speaks to a foundational presence and experience in local pet health.
However, the issues raised regarding communication about the ownership change, perceived lack of transparency in pricing, potentially rushed examinations, and particularly the negative interactions with management when attempting to resolve concerns, are significant factors for New York locals to consider. For pet owners who value open communication, consistent ethical practices, and respectful customer service, these recent experiences may prompt caution.
Ultimately, the suitability of Apple Country Veterinary Hospital for New York locals will depend heavily on individual priorities and direct engagement with the clinic. While its historical reputation and some positive staff interactions offer promise, prospective and existing clients are encouraged to utilize the provided contact information to inquire thoroughly about current policies, discuss their specific needs, and gauge the clinic's responsiveness before committing to care. For those seeking a long-term veterinary partner, clear communication and a strong client-clinic relationship are paramount, and evaluating these aspects directly with Apple Country Veterinary Hospital will be key for New York residents.

Apple Country Veterinary Hospital Reviews
I've been going to Apple Country Vet Hospital for over two decades. I've been bringing my bulldogs here for years because the old owner, Dr. Snyder, used to specialize in this dog breed. However, on my most recent visit, the workers at Apple Country told me that the previous doctor had passed sometime ago. I had not been there in some time but I was surprised that I had been informed prior about this doctor passing, especially since I have been a customer for twenty years.I don't take my dogs to the vet unless I have to, but when I do, I would've taken them to Apple Country Vet Hospital. Unfortunately after this most recent visit I'll not be returning to this business.Due to the previous vet, Dr. Snyder, passing away the business had changed hands under a new practice. Dr. Snyder and I had a pretty honest relationship. He would let me know if I could get medications for cheaper prices at different locations, such as Country Max or Petco, or if my dogs could forgo a certain test or procedure. Due to this rapport we've established over the past twenty years of business, I would always return to Dr. Snyder and Apple Country. I had made an appointment for my dog, Riley, for the 30th of May. My dog had been shaking his head in the days prior and I surmised that he had an ear infection. I only brought my dog in for the ear infection because he's a pretty healthy dog otherwise. During the appointment I had asked the Vet if there was a cheaper alternative or a different location to get the Malacetic Ultra OTIC, the ear cleaner for my dog. The Vet had told me that there was no alternative nor a separate location to purchase this medication. I agreed to this medication because I wanted my dog to feel better.I am a retired vet and recent widower and my dog, Riley, keeps me company as well as safe. However, when I got my bill I was quite surprised, especially by two charges. 1.) $73.28 for the ear cleaner and, 2.) $72.00 for a physical exam. The latter was surprising because I was in the room during the “Exam” and they failed to mention the module on his body as well as his collar hot spots. These are not serious ailments— but I would still like the vet to acknowledge these lumps and bumps. The exam was quite rushed too which is why I was surprised by the $72.00 charge. The former charge felt wrong to me. Afterwards I decided to go to a farm store to see if I could find the medicine the Vet had told me there was no alternative for. However, I found the same product for around $11. I understand businesses need to make money but to be lied to is frankly unethical, especially being a customer for twenty years as well as an elderly person on a limited income.I decided to return a couple days later to speak about the bill with the receptionist and asked if I could set up a phone appointment with the general manager to speak about the charges. A couple days later they called me angrily, accusing me of yelling at the receptionist. I am hard of hearing so my voice may’ve been raised but I made it clear to the receptionist that I was frustrated with the whole process and not at her. I was taken aback so I tried to work it out with the manager on the phone and they hung up on me. Not only was my issue not resolved but I also was disregarded by management.

Apr 17, 2025 · Dana GamacheAfter an absolutely terrible experience at Greece Animal Hospital we brought our dog Tobi to Apple Country. What a difference! Intelligent, Caring and Kind people. Unlike Greece Animal Hospital who couldn't even keep their records straight or even knew the medications they had prescribed. We were only at Apple Country for a few years, but the experience was excellent! Our 15 year old trusty friend recently passed away, but the staff at Apple Country really helped our family through a very difficult decision and made our last moments together all I could have hoped for. I don't typically engage in writing posts about experiences, but I had to make an exception related to Apple Country Veterinary. They're awesome! My only regret is that someone didn't tell me about them sooner..
