The clinic's position ensures that whether you're coming from the bustling city of New Orleans, the Westbank, or other suburban areas, reaching MedVet is as direct as possible. Given that it operates as a 24/7 emergency facility, this ease of access is paramount. Features / Highlights
MedVet New Orleans stands out in the Louisiana veterinary landscape due to several key features and highlights that are consistently emphasized by their operational model and client experiences, both positive and challenging.
- 24/7 Emergency Availability: A paramount feature, ensuring that pet owners in Louisiana have immediate access to critical care regardless of the time of day or night. This continuous operation provides essential peace of mind for families facing urgent situations.
- Comprehensive Specialty Care: Beyond emergencies, MedVet New Orleans offers multiple specialty services (Anesthesia & Pain Management, Cardiology, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery), making it a hub for advanced veterinary medicine. The ability to access various specialists under one roof is a significant advantage.
- Accreditation: MedVet hospitals, including New Orleans, are often accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). AAHA-accredited hospitals voluntarily meet over 900 rigorous quality standards, demonstrating a commitment to the highest levels of patient care, pain management, and team training.
- State-of-the-Art Facility: The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies, crucial for handling complex and critical cases, and ensuring that pets receive the best possible chance for a positive outcome.
- Team of Highly Trained Professionals: MedVet emphasizes a team of expert caregivers, including board-certified specialists and highly trained emergency doctors, who participate in ongoing education to deliver the latest techniques and treatments.
- Compassionate Approach (Contested): While one review highlights the compassionate and loving fashion in which a grieving family was treated, acknowledging the staff's efforts during a difficult time, another review provides a starkly different perspective, describing the environment as "cold, harsh, uninviting" and lacking basic accommodations like water, treats, or beds for pets. This suggests an inconsistency in client experience regarding compassion and comfort.
- Financial Practices (Contested): A notable concern raised in one review points to "predatory" pricing, unnecessary tests, and aggressive attempts to upsell expensive procedures, with an apparent lack of transparency regarding costs and alternative solutions. The offering of credit for thousands of dollars in procedures is highlighted as a concern.

For pet owners throughout Louisiana, MedVet New Orleans stands as a significant resource for emergency and specialized veterinary care. Its defining characteristic, 24/7 availability, offers an invaluable safety net for pets facing sudden illnesses or traumatic injuries, a critical service for any community. This level of comprehensive, round-the-clock care, backed by a state-of-the-art facility, is undeniably a vital asset for the region.
The accessibility of its Metairie location on North Causeway Boulevard further enhances its suitability for Louisiana locals, ensuring that even in urgent situations, pets can be transported quickly and efficiently. For families whose regular veterinarian is closed, MedVet provides a crucial bridge for emergency situations and advanced medical needs.
However, it is important for pet owners to approach MedVet New Orleans with a full understanding of its operational model, particularly given the conflicting accounts of client experiences. While some families have found immense comfort and compassion during incredibly difficult times, others have expressed serious concerns regarding transparency in pricing, perceived unnecessary procedures, and the overall comfort provided to pets in their care. Local users should be prepared to ask detailed questions about proposed treatments and costs, and advocate for their pet's comfort, particularly during prolonged stays. Despite these concerns, for specialized, advanced, or after-hours emergency care that might not be available elsewhere in Louisiana, MedVet New Orleans remains a primary and often necessary option for many. It is a facility that provides essential life-saving services, and for many, its existence offers a crucial layer of security for their cherished animal companions.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1An incredible group of professionals. Even though our sweet Whiskey passed, I can confidently say the staff at MedVet did everything in their power to save our boy. We were blessed to be treated in such a compassionate and loving fashion during this difficult time. We are eternally thankful for your efforts and love. May God continue to bless every one of you. Thank you.
March 15 · Ivan BaptistaTERRIBLE place to bring your baby. They are PREDATORY and will try to scare you by insinuating your pup may die if you don’t shell out thousands of dollars for procedures they don’t need. They will not guarantee your baby will survive and will still charge you thousands without providing proof they did everything they can to save them. They will order many unnecessary tests and offer you to put everything on credit Conveniently. I took my baby there when For food poisoning, and the vet tech Did not notice that she was experiencing jaundice. I had to point out and ask why is my puppy yellow? They seemed concerned and like they didn’t know what it could be.. They had me and my puppy wait four hours to be seen. No water, no treats no beds just cold, harsh uninviting environment. For an emergency hospital servicing dogs trying to charge thousands of dollars for common procedures. You would think that they’d have some sort of accommodation that makes it comfortable for your pet but they do not. They tried to charge me $16,000 to do some kind of procedure that they didn’t really fully explain. They said that she would die without it. When I told them $16,000 was a Highway robbery and completely over the top. They offer to keep my baby overnight and pray that she might make it through the night for a low low cost of $8000.. I was on the phone with my friend and my father at the time so they heard everything that the vet was explaining. I ended up just taking my baby home because basically they said if I didn’t have the money, then she was just gonna die. What good news she didn’t die I just had to hydrate her and she was fine and she is a survivor and she’s been fine ever since... No thanks to the vet. They did not tell me how I could help her any remedies that I can use. They were perfectly fine with letting me think she was gonna die and offered no alternative solutions. Don’t take your puppy here if you can help it. They will let your puppy die just to make a buck
July 24 · Heather ReaneyThe whole staff is helpful, kind and eager to assist at any time of day. Also, the level of professionalism and knowledge is superb. They even took the time to send me a picture of my baby's sweet face on Mother's Day to give me peace of mind that she was doing well. 10/10
May 14 · Katie TurnerOzzy and I eternally grateful! We could never thank you enough for your warmth, understanding, generosity and excellent care. He made a quick and full recovery.I think he's getting tired of me kissing him and hugging him all day. 😆Much love and blessings to each and every staff member! 😘 🙏
May 25 · Linda MatthewsI truly cannot say enough wonderful things about MedVet, and the critical care team is particularly exceptional. They are some of the most brilliant and compassionate people I have ever met. Special thank you to Dr. Collins, Dr. Daly, Kat, Cheryl, and all the other amazing team members who took such wonderful care of Pablo. I could never say thank you enough for saving his life and giving him so much love while he was in your care. Pablo also says thank you for all the great snacks and pets while he was there and getting him back to burrowing under his soft blankets in record time.
