As a highly specialized veterinary dental practice, Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists - Gilbert offers an extensive range of advanced services that go far beyond routine dental cleanings, addressing complex oral health issues in dogs and cats.
- Advanced Oral Surgery: This includes sophisticated procedures for tumor removals, fracture repairs (including jaw fractures), salivary gland surgery, and trauma reconstruction. They utilize techniques and equipment similar to human oral surgeons, such as standard and cone beam CT (computed tomography), piezoelectric surgical units, and bone plating with titanium plates.
- Complex Tooth Extractions: While general vets perform routine extractions, this clinic handles severe disease or damage cases requiring intricate surgical extractions, including those that involve incision of the gingiva and minimal bone removal.
- Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics): An alternative to extraction for fractured or diseased teeth, this procedure removes infected pulp tissue and nerves, preserving the tooth and eliminating pain. Crowns are often recommended post-root canal for protection.
- Periodontal Therapy and Surgery: Advanced treatments for periodontal disease, including gingival flap surgery and bone grafting, aimed at saving diseased teeth with gum recession or root exposure by regenerating periodontal tissues.
- Oral Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment: Comprehensive management of oral tumors, including advanced diagnostics (biopsies, imaging) and surgical removal, often working in conjunction with veterinary oncologists.
- Orthodontics: Correction of traumatic malocclusions (bad bites) to ensure comfort and proper function, though not for cosmetic purposes.
- Restorative Procedures: Treatments like fillings for caries (cavities in dogs) and restorations for enamel/dentin defects.
- Prosthodontics: Primarily focuses on the application of crowns (metal alloy or porcelain-fused-to-metal) to protect damaged teeth, especially after root canal treatments.
- Oronasal Fistula Repair: Surgical correction of abnormal openings between the mouth and nasal cavity, often caused by periodontal disease or difficult extractions.
- Pain Management and Anesthesia: Extensive training in the safe and effective use of anesthesia and pain management for all procedures, crucial for patient comfort and safety during oral surgeries.

Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists - Gilbert Reviews
I recently brought my senior boxer in to have a pretty extensive oral surgery done to remove his gingival hyperplasia and possible tumors. I was a bit nervous as we had had this surgery done twice before with his primary vet and he had irregular heartbeats during the surgery and both times the growths came back, even worse than the time before. From beginning to end, Dr. Malott was amazing. He took his time explaining the surgery and answering all of my questions. I am so impressed that only 3 days later my old man is acting normal and eating well. The office staff followed up multiple times to make sure he was ok, and provided a level of service that all should strive for. Dr. Malott has given my pup the chance to have a better quality of life throughout the remainder of his years and for that I thank him. Highly recommend.
Jun 22, 2025 · D StantonThe absolute best, most amazing Vet I have ever met! - And there's a vet in the family! Dr Balke is a giver of hope. He is patient and kind, thorough, compassionate and a skilled surgical genius. We are so grateful to him. Still nervously awaiting biopsy results on our girl. But I feel very confident that he saved her life. She's only 7 and was battling the very aggressive CAA. Everything is going exactly as he advised which is surprisingly easy. Having a "Feet don't fail me now" moment. Who knew a partial mandibulectomy would go so well?! If you are on the fence about his recommendations I would definitely consider everything he has to say as the best possible outlook for your best friend. Thank you Dr Balke. No matter what's ahead for Miss Gilda Radner I will always be grateful. Have hope, and trust Dr Balke. Don't give up if he says there is hope. Will come back to post pictures of Gilda Radner after she heals more. The ones shared are just to provide a face to our love and gratitude. She's still healing, it's been less than 48 hours post-op, and it feels a little soon.
Feb 21, 2025 · Allexis HughesThank you Dr. Malott and AVDS staff for providing exceptional care for my dog Bella!Bella is 15 years old now and I was worried for her to have to undergo anesthesia, as any pet parent would. Dr. Malott and his staff made me feel like she was in good hands and would receive the best care. Even though the staff had added on more procedures to their busy day, I never felt rushed or neglected. Bella was the last procedure of their day. The staff texted me prior to getting started on her and Dr. Malott called me after she was under anesthesia and got dental radiographs. Bella needed 7 teeth extracted. The staff stayed nearly 2 hours after their closing time to care for Bella. Dr. Malott provided his contact information in the event something happened over the weekend.Dr. Malott is extremely thorough in his work and has a very caring heart. It is evident that he is passionate about veterinary medicine and helping pets. Thank you AVDS for taking care of my baby, Bella. We are extremely grateful and happy she has a healthy mouth again ❤️
Feb 24, 2025 · Megan GrevesDr. Balke took wonderful care performing a major surgery on my dog to remove a giant oral tumor. After the operation, the Doctor explained the post-op care for my pet in great detail. Jun 11, 2025 · andrea pearsonI have taken all three of my cats here for years, and every time it is nothing but exceptional care. We love Dr. Balke, he is very thorough, answers all our questions, and I wouldn’t want anyone else taking care of my cats dental issues. Star and the other technicians are always fantastic as well and really take the time to make our kitties feel comfortable. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!
