When considering a veterinary practice, it's important to weigh all aspects of the experience. Banfield Pet Hospital in Kensington can be a worthwhile choice for pet owners seeking a convenient option for routine care. The positive review from a recent transplant to the area highlights several of the clinic's strengths: the pleasant experience of the visit, the kindness of the staff, and their gentle approach with a large dog. The ease of getting a last-minute weekend appointment for vaccines and the no-pressure explanation of optional treatments were also significant positives. This indicates that for straightforward wellness visits, the clinic can provide a solid and stress-free experience.
However, it's also important to be aware of the experiences shared by other clients, which present a different picture. Some clients have reported significant issues with billing discrepancies and perceived negligence, which led to frustration and emotional distress. These experiences, including miscommunications about pricing and a serious error like leaving a catheter in a pet, underscore the importance of careful communication and attention to detail.
For a pet owner who values convenience and wants a structured plan for preventative care, Banfield Pet Hospital could be a good fit, particularly for routine visits like vaccinations and wellness exams. The professional and gentle staff, as described in the positive review, can make a significant difference. However, for those seeking more complex or urgent care, it may be prudent to consider a clinic with a track record of handling such situations without issue. Ultimately, the decision of whether this is the right place for your pet will depend on your specific needs and priorities, with a clear understanding of both the potential benefits and the risks highlighted by the varying customer experiences.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We recently moved to the area and needed to update my dog’s vaccines. Since we hadn’t found a long term vet yet, I booked a weekend appointment at Banfield. I’ve never loved this chain because I’ve always had to do drop off appointments, but this was a really pleasant experience.Dr. Tepley and the whole team were so kind. I didn’t catch the names of the man at the front desk or the bet tech who was in our room, but they were all great. They had availability to do the vaccines right away which made a big difference for us. They were super gentle with my 60 lb husky, even carried her into the room when she froze. They also explained a regional vaccine I might want to consider, but there was no pressure to get it. While I’m not sure Banfield will be our forever vet, I’m really glad we came here and will definitely be back in the meantime.
June 18 · Hannah ParagonWould give a zero if I could..I am extremely disappointed and frustrated following my recent visit to your clinic. I was initially quoted a specific price for services over the phone, which was a deciding factor in choosing to bring my 13-year-old dog in. However, upon arrival, I was informed that the cost had tripled. While your staff admitted it was their mistake in quoting the wrong price, I was still told I would need to pay the full amount if I wanted my dog’s test results to be processed. Given the unexpected and steep price change, I had no choice but to decline, as I could not afford the new amount. As upsetting as that experience was, what followed was even more concerning. When my dog was brought back to me, I noticed something visibly protruding from his genital area. I asked the front desk staff about it, and I was told dismissively, “Oh, that’s just him, that’s his peepee.” It wasn’t until I got to the car and took a closer look that I realized it was a urinary catheter that had been inserted and not removed. This level of negligence is unacceptable. My dog is a senior and should not be subjected to unnecessary stress, let alone carelessness that could have caused serious harm or discomfort. I trusted your clinic with his well-being, and I feel completely let down and disrespected—both financially and medically.I see now why this is the LOWEST rated banfield across this whole Maryland area.Attached is the picture of the urinary catheter I pulled out.
April 09 · nathaly riveraWeirdest experience ever. Booked two appointments for my dog and cat. One at 3 and one at 330. I was a new appointment and they weren’t nearly ready for me. I’d sent in their information and records days in advance but they literally filled out their vaccine records in front of me. One by one. waste of my time. My first time there and got a free first time visit but I probably won’t be going back. Once the vet tech was done I waited another 45 minutes despite booking two times slots. They saw my animals for like 5 minutes zero care and hospitality throughout the whole process. Recommend staying away unless this was a huge anomaly on their part.
June 27 · Jacob ScharfI have been taking my dogs to Banfield Pet Hospital for the past four years, and I have always had a great experience. The veterinarians and staff are professional, caring, and truly dedicated to the well-being of pets. They take the time to answer all my questions and ensure my dogs receive the best care possible. From routine check-ups to vaccinations and occasional concerns, the team at Banfield has always been thorough and attentive. I appreciate their Wellness Plans, which make it easy to stay on top of my pets’ health needs. The facility is always clean, and scheduling appointments is convenient.Overall, I highly recommend Banfield Pet Hospital to any pet owner looking for reliable and compassionate veterinary care. I trust them completely with my dogs and will continue to bring them here for years to come!
March 22 · cheyt belloIf you need end of life care / euthanasia for your pet, I could not recommend this Banfield location anymore. The front desk staff, from the second we spoke on the phone, approached us with such care and compassion. They squeezed us in today as my dogs condition had seriously declined rapidly. They allowed us to stay in the room with her and take all the time we needed. I’ve never been through this situation before but I never imagined to be met with such care. I’d give 10 stars if I could. Thank you to the staff
