Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital provides a comprehensive array of veterinary services designed to meet the diverse health needs of your pets throughout their lives. Their commitment to personalized care, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment aims to ensure your animal companions receive thorough and compassionate medical attention. While the specific list of services available can vary, a full-service veterinary hospital typically offers:
- Wellness Exams and Vaccinations: Regular comprehensive physical exams are fundamental for maintaining your pet's long-term health. These include thorough assessments, discussions about nutrition, and tailored vaccination programs to protect against common and serious diseases.
- Preventative Medicine: Beyond vaccinations, they likely focus on proactive measures such as parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworm), detailed dental health assessments, and early detection of potential health issues to keep your pet healthy and prevent future problems.
- Diagnostic Services: A modern veterinary hospital typically offers or facilitates access to a range of diagnostic tools. This often includes in-house laboratory testing for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal analysis, as well as digital radiography (X-rays) and potentially ultrasound for accurate diagnosis of various illnesses and injuries.
- Medical Services: For pets experiencing illness, injuries, or chronic conditions, the hospital provides expert medical diagnosis and develops tailored treatment plans focused on effective resolution and compassionate care. This includes managing conditions such as allergies, dermatological issues, and internal medicine concerns.
- Surgical Services: A range of surgical procedures, from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue surgeries, are typically performed with a strong emphasis on patient safety, effective pain management, and thorough post-operative monitoring.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive veterinary dentistry services, including professional cleanings, polishing, and extractions when necessary, are vital for your pet's overall well-being and to prevent painful and debilitating dental diseases.
- Pain Management: They likely offer tailored pain management strategies for both acute injuries and chronic conditions, ensuring your pet's comfort, improving their mobility, and enhancing their overall quality of life.
- Microchipping: A crucial service for pet safety, microchipping provides permanent identification for your pet, significantly increasing the chances of being reunited if they ever become lost.
- Nutritional Counseling: While one review notes a strong stance on specific food brands, veterinary practices generally offer guidance on proper pet nutrition, including weight management and dietary recommendations for specific health conditions.
- Pet Insurance Workings: The hospital works with pet insurance, which is a significant benefit for owners looking to manage healthcare costs.
Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital, particularly through the efforts of Dr. George and his administrative staff, presents several notable features and attributes that are highlighted by clients in Connecticut.
- Dedicated and Caring Staff: Lisa, the front desk administrator, is consistently praised as "wonderful," "always grabs the phone in a timely manner and knows exactly what she’s doing," and "won’t give you the run around." This indicates a highly efficient and client-focused administrative team. The overall staff is also described as "so wonderful and they care so much about their patients."
- Dr. George's Realistic and Pet-Centric Approach: Dr. George is highlighted for not only talking "things through with the owner," but also being "realistic and wants what is best for your animal." This suggests an honest and practical approach to veterinary care, which many pet owners appreciate, as he "won’t give you silly diagnoses for more money."
- Thorough and Personalized Attention: While there may be occasional delays, clients accept them because "each person & pet gets the attention they deserve." This dedication to providing ample time and thorough examinations for every patient is a significant positive highlight, ensuring comprehensive care over rushed appointments.
- Acceptance of Pet Insurance: The hospital works with pet insurance, which is a valuable feature for clients who wish to mitigate the financial burden of veterinary care. This demonstrates flexibility and a commitment to helping owners afford necessary treatments.
- Clean and Up-to-Date Facility: The hospital facility is noted as being "clean and up to date," which contributes to a positive and professional environment for both pets and their owners.
However, it's also important to acknowledge areas where client experiences have varied:
- Potential for Wait Times: One reviewer mentioned that Dr. George is "a little slow" and appointments might start 20 minutes late. While this is balanced by thorough attention, it's a factor for clients with tight schedules.
- Communication and Approach to Dietary Advice: One review expressed concern about the doctor's clarity and "pushy" insistence on specific dog food brands, to the extent of charging for a product without a clear opt-out. This indicates a potential area for more flexible and clearly communicated nutritional counseling, especially when client preferences or research differ.

Compassionate Care Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Lisa the front desk Admin is wonderful. She always grabs the phone in a timely manner and knows exactly what she’s doing. She won’t give you the run around. As for the vet, Dr. George and his staff are so wonderful and they care so much about their patients. Dr. George not only talks things through with the owner, but he is realistic and wants what is best for your animal. He won’t give you silly diagnoses for more money. The bills are a little pricey but I don’t think this is out of the norm for vet services. He does work with pet insurance as well. One thing to note is that Dr. George is a little slow (for example, my 11am appointment didn’t start until 11:20) so you might be waiting a little bit, but each person & pet gets the attention they deserve so I’m always okay with waiting a little extra for good service. Also, the facility is clean and up to date.
Apr 25, 2025 · olivia bishopFront desk woman was wonderful and sweet, Doctor was not clear and pushy. Although nice guy, charged me dog food that he believes is best for my dog. Shot down various brands I mentioned who had been recommended by actual nutritionists. Made it seem like he was sending me home with something to try out, not given the option to opt out. We’ve had healthy labs for years; although he is a vet, he is not exactly a nutritional specialist. Would not recommend due to lack of clarity and insistence over something that I would eventually be charged for.
