Spent a lot of time with this vet and so have many of my family members with their dogs. The vet is nice and at times has been helpful with fair pricing, which is why I gave two stars. However, his go to answer on many occasions was either “let’s wait and see what pops up” or “if it was my dog, I would just keep a close eye on it for awhile.” He failed to go the extra mile with my pets as to finding out what was wrong which led to more bad than good. No testing, just seemed to be guess work. His staff have consistently been unpleasant and rude without provocation. I will not be recommending this vet to anyone. - Morgan Day

While specific detailed lists of services are not provided, a veterinary practice like Dr. Shahbazian Gary's, having served the community for many years, would typically offer a foundational range of general veterinary care services essential for the health and well-being of common domestic animals, primarily dogs and cats.

  • Wellness and Preventative Care: This would include routine annual physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations (such as rabies, distemper, parvovirus for dogs; feline leukemia, rabies, FVRCP for cats), and regular deworming and parasite control (for fleas, ticks, heartworms). Emphasis would be placed on maintaining overall health and preventing common diseases.

  • Basic Diagnostic Services: For identifying common ailments, the clinic would likely be equipped to perform fundamental diagnostic tests. This would typically include:

    • In-house Laboratory Services: Basic blood tests (e.g., CBC for red and white blood cell counts), urinalysis, and fecal examinations to detect infections, parasites, or organ function issues.

    • Basic Radiography (X-rays): For examining bones, detecting foreign objects, or assessing the general condition of internal organs.

  • Medical Treatment for Common Illnesses: Diagnosis and treatment for a variety of common pet ailments, such as skin conditions, ear infections, minor gastrointestinal upsets, and respiratory issues. This would involve prescribing medications and providing follow-up care.

  • Minor Surgical Procedures: While complex surgeries might be referred to specialists, a general practice typically handles routine surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering, minor mass removals, and wound repair.

  • Dental Examinations and Cleanings: While potentially limited to basic cleanings, a general vet would address oral health, recognizing its importance to overall pet well-being.

  • Nutritional Counseling: Providing advice on appropriate diets for pets based on their age, breed, and health conditions to ensure proper nutrition.

  • Pain Management: Addressing acute and chronic pain in pets through medication or other supportive therapies.

  • Microchipping: A standard service for pet identification and recovery in case a pet gets lost.

It is important for pet owners seeking specific or advanced services to always call the clinic directly to confirm the availability of particular procedures or diagnostic capabilities.

Dr. Shahbazian Gary's veterinary practice, having served the Fresno community for an extended period, presents a mix of features and highlights that shape the client experience.

  • Long-Standing Community Presence and Trust: A significant highlight is Dr. Shahbazian Gary's decades of service to the Fresno community. One glowing review states, "He's been taking care of our animals since I was 18 I'm so so so much older now! We love Dr. Shapazian!" This longevity indicates a strong, established relationship with many local families, with some trusting him across multiple generations of pets. This kind of enduring loyalty speaks to a consistent presence and familiarity within the community.

  • Deep-Seated Love for Animals: The most resounding positive feature is Dr. Shahbazian's genuine affection for animals. A dedicated client enthusiastically calls him the "Best vet in the world he loves animals and so honest and understanding and loving to my fur babies!" This personal connection and compassionate approach to pets are highly valued by owners and form the core of his appeal.

  • Fair Pricing: For many pet parents, affordability is a key concern. One reviewer acknowledged that the vet "at times has been helpful with fair pricing." This suggests a conscious effort to keep services accessible, which can be a significant benefit for families managing pet care costs.

  • Honesty and Understanding: Beyond just loving animals, Dr. Shahbazian is described as "so honest and understanding." This fosters a sense of trust between the veterinarian and pet owner, crucial for open communication and effective care decisions.

  • Conservative Approach to Diagnostics (Mixed Feedback): One aspect noted is a tendency towards a "wait and see" approach or advice to "just keep a close eye on it for awhile" rather than immediate extensive testing. While one reviewer expressed frustration that this "failed to go the extra mile...which led to more bad than good" and felt it was "guess work," another perspective might view this as a financially cautious approach, potentially avoiding unnecessary tests unless clear symptoms emerge, which aligns with the "fair pricing" comment. This indicates a difference in philosophy that may suit some pet owners better than others.

  • Inconsistent Staff Experience (Needs Improvement): A notable area for improvement, as highlighted by one reviewer, is the "consistently unpleasant and rude without provocation" staff. While Dr. Shahbazian himself receives praise, the front-line staff experience can significantly impact a clinic's overall impression and client satisfaction.
