Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral (ECVR), located in Wilmington, stands as a critical resource, offering round-the-clock emergency care and a wide array of specialized veterinary services. This is not a typical animal hospital; it is a referral and emergency center, meaning it is equipped to handle the most critical and complex cases. The dedicated team of veterinarians and specialists at ECVR works tirelessly to provide life-saving treatments, intensive care, and advanced medical and surgical solutions for pets in need. They serve as a crucial extension of a pet's primary care veterinarian, stepping in when specialized expertise or urgent attention is required.
The importance of a facility like Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral cannot be overstated. When a pet faces a sudden injury, a serious illness, or a chronic condition that requires a specialist's touch, knowing that a place like this exists provides immense peace of mind. ECVR's mission is to offer premium-quality, state-of-the-art medical and surgical care. They understand the immense stress and emotion that accompanies a pet emergency or a complex diagnosis. Their staff is trained not only in advanced medical procedures but also in providing emotional support and clear communication to pet parents during difficult times. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The staff and doctors are amazing. They work with you quickly and efficiently. They actually answer the phone and spend time explaining things without feeling rushed. We had 2 visits over the weekend for my sick kitty. Zeke had an emergency surgery and he is home today doing really well in recovery. And He looks good in Pink too!
August 27 · Jennifer YoungI called ahead to let them know I was coming. The receptionist that I spoke with was so kind and patient. Doing that made arrival really smooth. I was very emotional and having that conversation in the lobby with others around would’ve been difficult. The vet was also amazing. She handled our conversation with grace and compassion. While I hope we won’t need emergency services again, I’m thankful to know we have a good option available.
July 18 · Heather UngerMy review is mostly a thank you. Thank you to Dr. Pfeffer, the vet techs, Luke, ( who is great) and the entire hospital. You saved my beloved Freddie. He was paralyzed with IVDD, and Dr. Pfeffer is a brilliant surgeon. From no feeling in his back legs and feet, to walking. Highly skilled, complex, spinal surgery. Great communication through it all. His hospitalization etc…An enormous heartfelt thank you. My boy can walk again. Wilmington is beyond lucky to have this place. Honest, caring treatment. Freddie is still getting therapy, and thanks to Luke he’s getting stronger. Brilliant Dr’s. So grateful for your skills. Thank God for smart people. Don’t hesitate to use this place.
July 24 · Susan Wells-RobertsI love this veterinary hospital, they took such great care of our Yorkie, Sadie when we brought her in. We were very worried so we brought her in very early morning due to how severely sick she was and the staff was very understanding and helpful. They showed great concern and our Yorkie returned home a couple days later in much better shap. Thank you East Carolina Veterinary staff for being there for us and our fur baby in this scary time.Jane D
August 25 · Jane DoironWe had an exceptional experience with Eastern Carolina Veterinary Hospital during a very stressful time for our family. Our nearly 2-year-old Lab suddenly began vomiting excessively one morning, and the team at Eastern Carolina acted quickly and professionally to assess and treat him. From the moment we walked in, the front desk staff was organized, compassionate, and efficient in triaging both our dog and the many other patients coming through the door. The technicians and doctors were not only highly skilled, but also incredibly communicative—keeping us informed every step of the way as our dog underwent abdominal surgery and stayed overnight for monitoring.Despite the anxiety and urgency of the situation, we felt completely supported and confident in the care our dog Douglas received. Every staff member we encountered showed genuine concern and professionalism, and we are beyond grateful for the excellent treatment he received. Doug is now 4 days post surgery and is doing great! We can’t thank Eastern Carolina enough and would highly recommend them to any pet owner in need of emergency or surgical care.
