I am so very grateful for the entire staff at Edgewood Animal Hospital and Dr. Milburn after the successful surgery he performed on our nearly 17-year-old Australian cattle dog today. We lived with the mass on Bingo’s eyelid for a year because, as Dr. Milburn often advised: Why operate on an old dog if you don’t need to? But it was beginning to obstruct his eye, so we needed to remove the mass. I was terrified because Bingo hadn’t been under anesthesia in seven years. But Dr. Milburn said he was in great shape, and he took extra precautions to protect Bingo's heart and health. The overall care and love Bingo got from the entire staff was obvious. When they brought him to me after surgery, Bingo looked like it was just another day at camp playing with other dogs. I can't praise the Edgewood team enough, especially after using five other vet practices in Greater Portland in the past. Edgewood is far and away superior — and yet, they charge less than the Portland vets! It doesn’t make sense. We feel very lucky that our move to Buxton five years ago introduced us to the Edgewood team whose compassion and animal-first ethic is such a lovely experience, for both people and animals.

Office staff impatient and rude, probably at least partly because they also have to put up with ridiculous procedures. They act like its still 2020. Make you wear a mask because 1 staff member is immunocompromised in some way. Office cramped so you have to wait in your car anyway. Also haven’t felt any warmth from any of the Drs since Dr Loveitt.. They all appear to care more about themselves than they do about providing high quality pet care. Go someplace else.

Let me preface this with; I experienced nothing but kindness from Edgewoods vet techs. Every time I had an appointment with a vet tech it went well. The vets, on the other hand, are unbelievably unprofessional. I'm currently living a bit farther away than I typically would be (I was meant to live in Portland this year, but health issues got in the way so I'm staying with family temporarily) and so I planned on trying to go to a closer vet clinic when my cat needed her updated shots. Unfortunately, she started to exhibit asthma symptoms over the past month and so I decided to get her checked for asthma. I'm familiar with the process of diagnosing a cat with asthma, so I knew she'd almost certainly need an xray- something that would cost significantly more at my local vets than Edgewood, who I'd had good experiences with cost wise in the past. So I made the tough choice to schedule an appointment for my cat to get checked for asthma, along with getting her shots (because why not do both?), at Edgewood for a Friday afternoon. This seemed perfectly fine with who I scheduled with, so I assumed it would be no big deal. When I got there my appointment was continuously referred to as being for shots. No one, including the vet, seemed to have any inkling that my appointment was meant to be primarily for checking for asthma. The vet who I saw, who was a man (he never introduced himself so I do not know his name), was immediately judgemental about me having driven from where I live (a 45 minute drive) for the appointment. He was then judgemental that I had waited a month from onset of symptoms to get my cat checked out for asthma (Xrays, inhalers, & bloodwork are expensive. I needed to wait for a paycheck or two to make sure I could cover it all before my cats insurance approved the claim. The symptoms were also not emergency level symptoms). He then told me that they don't do xrays or bloodwork on Friday afternoons, rendering my entire visit pointless. I was then left in the room, with no offer to help me put my carrier adverse cat back in her carrier, alone. I don't necessarily blame whoever scheduled my appointment for this, but in the future maybe don't schedule people for things you can't do at the appointment time.No need to send me a letter. You can email me her updated shot records and then leave me alone. Other places may be pricier but at least they'll be professional and respectful.
