When it comes to responsible pet ownership and contributing to animal welfare, spay/neuter services are paramount. Humane Colorado, formerly known as the Dumb Friends League, plays a crucial role in the community by offering highly affordable and compassionate spay/neuter procedures for both cats and dogs. This article will provide a detailed overview of their dedicated Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic and other related services, highlighting why this institution is a vital resource for local pet owners.
Humane Colorado, with its long-standing history and commitment to animal welfare, has evolved from its roots as the Dumb Friends League to continue its mission of protecting pets and supporting the human-animal bond. The Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic, while specifically named for felines, also extends its affordable spay/neuter services to dogs. This program is designed to help individuals in the community, particularly those who may need financial assistance, provide preventative veterinary care for their beloved pets. By focusing on these critical procedures, Humane Colorado directly addresses pet overpopulation, a leading cause of homelessness and suffering among animals.
The reviews from actual customers reflect a deeply positive experience, emphasizing the caring and professional nature of the staff. Pet owners consistently praise the team's ability to handle anxious or reactive animals with patience and kindness, ensuring that even potentially stressful surgical visits feel safe and positive for their pets. This dedication to compassionate care, combined with highly competitive pricing, underscores Humane Colorado's commitment to making essential veterinary services accessible to more families in Colorado. They are recognized for their thoroughness, even noting incidental findings like a chipped tooth, providing valuable information for follow-up care.

Humane Colorado's Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic (also serving dogs) focuses primarily on affordable and high-quality sterilization surgeries, but also includes key preventive health services within their program. Their mission is to provide essential care to owned pets and also support community animal welfare.
- Affordable Spay/Neuter Surgeries: This is the core service, offering low-cost sterilization for both pet cats and dogs. Pricing is highly competitive, as noted by customers who appreciate the great value.
- Included Vaccinations with Surgery: For optimal health, primary vaccines are often included in the spay/neuter fee. Specifically, FVRCP (for cats) and DA2PP (for dogs) are typically covered.
- Rabies Vaccination: This vital vaccine is available as an add-on service for a nominal fee for animals receiving surgery, if not already current.
- Microchipping: Offered as an additional service, microchipping is crucial for pet identification and significantly increases the chances of a lost pet being reunited with its owner.
- Pre-Surgery Requirements & Guidance: The clinic provides clear guidelines, such as minimum age/weight requirements (e.g., two months old and 2 lbs. for surgery), fasting instructions, and recommendations for pre-surgery bloodwork for older pets (e.g., eight years and older require bloodwork, which can be done elsewhere or at their Veterinary Hospital for an additional fee).
- Post-Surgery Care Instructions: Clients receive detailed instructions for at-home post-operative care, including monitoring incision sites, preventing licking, and signs to watch out for, with contact information for follow-up care if issues arise.
- Community Cat (TNR) Support: While primarily for owned pets, Humane Colorado also supports Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts for community (feral) cats, contributing to broader population control.
It is important to note that this clinic is specialized and primarily focuses on spay/neuter and associated basic preventive care. They explicitly state that they "do not offer emergency services or sick animal exams" and "are unable to treat chronic or even moderate illness or injury" at this specific location, directing such needs to full-service veterinarians.
Humane Colorado's Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic offers several compelling features and highlights that make it a highly regarded and valuable resource for pet owners in Denver, Colorado.
- Exceptional Staff Compassion and Patience: Consistently highlighted in reviews, the staff is described as "absolutely wonderful," "kind," "very caring," and "amazing and patient" with pets, particularly those who are anxious or reactive. Jun 25, 2025 · Kiya HallI can not say enough good things about this place!!! They truly care about these animals and make sure to go through all the information with you!! They also make sure to notify you if they notice anything abnormal about your pet!! They noticed our feline had a chipped tooth and told us exactly what to watch out for and when to seek a vet!! I appreciate that! See something say something kind of approach!! I love these ladies, this was my 3rd time here and I've never been disappointed leaving or dropping off!!! Thank you friends!!!
May 16, 2025 · Amy ConradsonTook our sons 9 month old kitten in to be spayed. At drop off you fill out a form the take them back and then tell you when to come back. Most people were told to go back at 4pm us being one of them. I mentioned we would be late as our kids get out at 335 and we live in GVR so the lady said we could come at 2 instead. If was so nice she could make that happen as it's difficult to work around all schedules. Our kitty is at home recovering and although she didn't like the cone at first she's doing better now. Also got one of her shots included nails trimmed and we paid the 15 dollars for rabies shot. Id recommend taking your pet here.
Apr 23, 2025 · kayla reneeThank you guys for spaying my little Luna! definitely will recommend this place! I’m very pleased with how fast I got an appointment and the reminders for her appointment the videos on how to prepare for surgery day and the instructions for after care❤️ thanks you!! Luna is very happy and recovering!
Jan 11, 2025 · Diana VillalobosDropped my cat off at 7 am was told to pick up at 4. I got there at 3:45. At 4 I was told she had "just come out of surgery" so I ended up waiting and waiting and waiting. No heads up. People have lives/jobs they have to get to and my cat could have spent the morning at home in a stress free environment if you weren't going to get to her for 8 hours. Figure out your schedule or limit the number of surgeries you do in a day.Update: I signed up for the 7:45 am time slot, so your response and the fact that she was last does not make sense. I was NEVER told to expect an extended wait time. Your employee was also extremely rude. After almost 40 minutes, she brought my cat out, shoved the carrier in my hands, handed me my documents (with zero explanation) and walked off. Terrible experience. 100% do not recommend. Wish I could give 0 stars.
