The relationship between a pet owner and their veterinarian is built on a foundation of trust. While no veterinary practice is immune to the heartbreaking reality of animal health, as seen in a difficult review from a client who lost a beloved dog to a complex health issue, the overall sentiment and the long-term relationships the hospital maintains speak to a different story. The positive reviews highlight a deep sense of trust and appreciation for the staff, describing them as "absolutely INCREDIBLE," "kind, knowledgeable," and wholeheartedly trustworthy. This is a testament to the daily dedication and hard work of a team that is passionate about providing the best possible care, even when facing challenging and emotional situations.
Okemos Animal Hospital is proud to be accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), a voluntary accreditation that fewer than 15% of all veterinary practices in the United States and Canada achieve. This means the hospital holds itself to a higher standard of excellence in areas such as patient care, facility standards, and diagnostic capabilities. For Michigan pet owners, this accreditation is a significant feature, providing an extra layer of confidence that their pets are receiving high-quality care that meets or exceeds industry best practices. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I just had to put my 5 1/2 year old dog down due to kidney failure, which was totally preventable and treatable had testing been doing routinely. Only on our first visit when a puppy was a stool sample taken. The only blood draws are to test for heartworm. No other test was even offered or suggested. It’s so hard to advocate for your pet when the person who’s supposed to be helping keep them healthy doesn’t do their job. I would really like to use the word negligence but I can’t prove it. I just know my dog would still be alive had a simple blood test had been done. It’s disheartening.
August 02 · Jessica SchuilingDr. Alfonso and his staff are absolutely INCREDIBLE. ❤️ Words can’t describe how much we appreciate them and everything they do. They are kind, knowledgeable, and we trust them wholeheartedly with our pets!
May 02 · Caitlin BremerThese people are amazing. I have been going there for years. When I had to put my childhood pet, my best friend, my fur baby of 19 years down; they we're so gentle and supportive of my grief. I wanted to be there when he passed and Dr. Alfonso only asked me once if I was sure before he took us in. He understood that I didn't want my Lucky to be alone in his last moments. There is so much more to tell in the years after, but what they did for me then was so impactful; I will never forget it. His tenderness and support in more ways than one in my time of need and grief has won my business for life.
April 08 · El MDr Alfonso and the staff are outstanding! They are compassionate and understanding. Would STRONGLY recommend.
February 27 · Ethan FahyDon't recommend. Our senior dog was diagnosed with congestive heart failure by Dr. Alphonso. He explained the best thing for our dog was to put him on daily medication to help with his condition, which could make his last months-years as comfortable as possible. This medication was about $200/mo. Less than 5 months later, we were told by our groomer our dog needed a rabies shot so he could get a haircut. When we called the Vet, they didn't advise us on the potential risks involved with his condition. So we brought our dog in, and got the shot. The next day after the shot, he started to have multiple syncopes daily. About two weeks after the shot, he unfortunately passed away. I don't understand why they did not recommend avoiding getting the shot. It seems like they lacks compassion, and just wanted money from us. They do not care whether your pet lives or dies, just about you paying your bill.
