What is worth choosing about River North Small Animal Hospital is the combination of its comprehensive medical services and its deep commitment to compassionate care. For families in Stephenville, this hospital is a dependable partner for everything from routine vaccinations to unforeseen emergencies. A client's story about an emergency with their Siberian Husky powerfully illustrates the team’s ability to provide both skilled medical attention and much-needed emotional support during a "heartbreaking situation." This is a level of care that goes far beyond a simple clinical transaction.
However, it is also important to consider all available feedback. A review from a client with an emotional support cat highlights a vastly different and disappointing experience, mentioning a lack of compassion from the primary doctor, unprofessional conduct, and insensitivity regarding a very difficult decision and its aftermath. This serves as a reminder that individual experiences can vary greatly. For potential clients, it is important to be aware of this and to trust your instincts. While many people have had overwhelmingly positive experiences, and the hospital's reputation for compassionate care during emergencies seems to be strong, it is crucial to feel comfortable with the staff, especially when dealing with critical situations. For many in the community, the positive accounts of excellent care and kindness will be the main reason for choosing this hospital, and the compassionate treatment of their beloved pets is a primary deciding factor.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We had an emergency with our Siberian Husky. The whole team was AMAZING. Loving, Kind and caring to all of her needs. They explained step by step what they were doing for her and what to expect. They explained what to do to continue care and to keep them up on her day to day health until we can her back to normal. They kept our fears calm as well as hers. My heart is overwhelmed with how much-needed help and positivity they brought to our heart breaking situation.I can't say enough positive things. They did so much for our Leia.
April 09 · Barbara EllerdTook my 11 year old cat to this clinic about a year ago. Just for a vaccine update as her original records were lost. About a week afterwards, she was showing obvious signs of illness. When I brought her in, I was in obvious distress as she was my ESA, and relied on her for a variety of reasons. The nurses were nice, but the primary doctor that was there seemed almost bored. They wore no gloves when touching and examining my cat. They told me once they ran tests on her blood, and after putting her in a O2 chamber that she would need a blood transfusion (which was not only outside of my budget as a college student, but also would require me to take her to another animal clinic), and would likely have to be on steroids for the rest of her life- assuming she pulled through at all, which, according to them, was unlikely.I was crying on the phone to my mother about what to do and the vet kept trying to talk money to me- as I am actively bawling my eyes out. Eventually my mother had me give her to the vet and told her to back off so I could process and think of what to do next.Eventually my family and I made the decision to euthanize and cremate our cat, and have the ashes sent to my parents' home in Austin. My mother handled paying for that and instructed them specifically to not tell me when the ashes were ready as I was already a mess after the whole endeavour.A couple of weeks later, they went against that and called me to pick up my cat's ashes.I do not recommend this vet for anything critical. It was not worth leaving with an empty kennel and wallet. As well as the distress they put my whole family under.
August 31 · Gwenyth EdgertonI have never had a better vet experience than here. When I took in my cat, they took the time to get her lots of pets and treats. They made sure to make her feel loved. The vet and vet tech were both very patient and took the time to explain everything as well as answer all my questions. I would definitely recommend taking your fur baby here.
June 29 · Hannah HightI moved to Stephenville a few months ago and needed to find a new vet for my animals. The first place I called said they couldn’t get my dog in for at least two weeks, but River North Small Animal Hospital said they could see us the next day. After a few visits, I’m very happy it worked out that way. Usually, I’m just as nervous as my dog at the vet, but the entire staff is kind and friendly and make you feel welcomed. Dr. Kay explains everything thoroughly and in a way you can understand. She even sends me home with articles about the procedures I took my dog in for. My dog always goes in feeling anxious but always comes out happy and excited. We even get goody bags after visits. I highly recommend River North Small Animal Hospital!
November 19 · Dakota CloudI cannot leave a 0, first when they treated my dog in an emergency they berrated myself and my daughter for not having thousands in dollars saved up, then essentially threatened to let him die unless we took out payday loans with their local contact! Then a couple of weeks later when I took him to his regular vet they found an immediate heart health issue that River North either ignored or did not care to look into. The berrating continued through our constant issues with them. What is sad is the doctor said they were busy at lunch and missed their lunch...
