SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell Reviews
Horrifying experience with Dr. Michael Kiselow and SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell. Dr. Kiselow misdiagnosed our dog with cancer with "99% certainty" after an ultrasound, despite an inconclusive fine needle aspiration. He then proceeded with chemotherapy for lymphoma. Our dog's condition worsened, and Dr. Kiselow and a colleague strongly pushed for euthanasia, causing immense distress and pain on our family.A second opinion at UC Davis revealed our dog did not have cancer; their imaging team determined that cancer was the least likely diagnosis as the mass did not appear to have blood flow. It was discovered the masses were fungal granulomas. This highlights the gross misjudgment in Dr. Kiselow's diagnostic assessment and raises serious questions about SAGE's diagnostic capabilities and their subpar equipments. Our dog is now recovering after appropriate treatment. She would have died in Sage have we not pushed to take her to UC Davis, had we not fight for her! Dr. Kiselow's misdiagnosis and Sage’s push for euthanasia were grossly negligent and showed a severe lack of empathy and responsibility, putting our dog’s life at risk and causing our family immense pain.Shockingly, when we informed his colleague of the misdiagnosis, the response was "Oh, I’m an oncologist, and all I know is cancer, but whatever UC Davis says. I’ll have Dr. Kiselow give you a call" , and Dr. Kiselow never even called to apologize. His failure to follow up on his mistake and wrong diagnosis is deeply concerning, making me wonder how many other pets may have suffered or died under his care due to similar diagnostic failures.Adding to the distress, during our dog's hospitalization at Sage, we were repeatedly questioned and pressured about euthanasia despite expressing our wish for treatment. On the day of transfer to UC Davis, while we wait for the discharge of our dog, we were placed in a room filled with pet ashes and urns, an act that demonstrated a shocking lack of sensitivity and further pressured us towards euthanasia. SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell and Dr. Kiselow demonstrate a clear disregard for professional standards and patient well-being. Avoid at all costs.
Jun 18, 2025 · Monica TengThe care at Sage was 50/50... I say this with irony...The front office staff, nurses, the consulting oncologists were compassionate, kind, fair, and informative. The doctor himself was a little better than a used car salesman. On his word that my dog had a 50/50 chance at 12 years old his hemangionoma sarcoma being non-cancerous, I nearly made the worst mistake of my entire life. Fortunately, an amazing oncology nurse, seeing both me and my dogs extreme distress, stepped in and gave me the clear honest truth and the factual information that I needed to make a properly informed decision. This angel of a human being saved me from making a hideous mistake that I would have regretted for the rest of my life. Had I gone through with the surgery it would have left my my poor sweet baby who has devote his 12 years of life loving me unconditionally, utterly confused, tortured and suffering miserably for his last fleeting remaining time with me.Sadly, oftentimes doctors and surgeons are in the business of selling. Unless you're buying what they're selling they're not making money and that's not always in the best interest of the patient. I have found this to be true for humans and especially true for our beloved sentient companions. Sage is an excellent facility with the resources needed to care for almost any pet emergency or illness. However, they need to temper their practice of business with a little more humanity.

Mar 24, 2025 · Heart StyleI could never recommend this place for any emergency care, and I would never take an animal there again.I took my German Shepherd, Bonnie there on Friday, May 9th, Mother’s Day weekend, from Santa Cruz since there was no surgeon available at our emergency vet that afternoon/evening. My vet had sedated her for an ultrasound and discovered hemoabdomen, internal bleeding usually caused by a tumor on the spleen or liver that has burst, and felt that emergency surgery might be a viable option…so they referred me to SAGE for further testing and possible surgery.I arrived and they took her in, and had me wait in a room to talk to the surgeon. The surgeon came in, and told me either I had to do emergency surgery or euthanize her?!? I asked to do testing first to see if surgery was indeed a viable option. No, it was all or nothing. Testing would have run $3-5,000 and surgery added $25-30,000 more. I was told that usually the surgery would only add 2-4 weeks to her life if she survived.During this time I was not allowed to see her, to use my own judgement on what I wanted to do, which made me feel quite lost with not knowing how Bonnie was actually doing. Then a nurse came in and told me that they could also rehydrate her, and let her come home with me until I felt like she was in pain and needed to be euthanized or she passed on her own, which could be a day or a week, as that was unknown. I chose this option and was assured they would give her something for her pain. They also gave me some herbal meds that I could give her at home which helped other dogs with this condition. If more was needed I could buy it without a prescription on Amazon, or elsewhere. They loaded her back in my car, as she was too weak or (what I thought, drugged up) to walk. After a long drive home, my neighbors and family helped me unload her. We placed her on her bed next to us, and she was obviously getting more distressed. I couldn’t tell if it was related to the pain meds, her condition or both. I called SAGE and whomever got on the phone with me, told me they never gave her anything for pain/sedation, and it was all my fault that I took her home with such a painful condition. I was devastated, and am still haunted by knowing my dog was in such pain due to lack of compassion and caring on SAGE’s part.I immediately had everyone help me load her into my car and called the Paciic and Santa Cruz Emergency Vet over here. They gave Bonnie a very caring and dignified euthanasia, with plenty of time for our tears and goodbyes. It has taken me two weeks to write this as I keep breaking down in tears, due to losing Bonnie in such a traumatic way…💔I also checked to see how much the herbal meds were that I paid over $100 for, and the most expensive I found them for was $11. In my opinion SAGE is all about the money, as they really do not care…never again!
May 25, 2025 · Michelle HoltzA horrifying misdiagnosis by Dr. Michael Kiselow at SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell nearly cost our dog her life. Dr. Kiselow declared with "99% certainty" that our dog had cancer and initiated chemotherapy, causing her health to deteriorate rapidly. We were then relentlessly pressured by Dr. Kiselow and his team to euthanize our beloved pet. Desperate for answers, we sought a second opinion at UC Davis, where we discovered the devastating truth: our dog never had cancer. The masses were fungal granulomas, a treatable condition. This gross negligence and diagnostic failure were compounded by a shocking lack of empathy. When notified of the misdiagnosis, Dr. Kiselow's colleague was dismissive, and Dr. Kiselow himself never even called to apologize. To add to our trauma, while waiting for our dog's discharge, we were placed in a room filled with pet ashes, a cruel and insensitive act. Our experience reveals a deeply concerning lack of professional standards and compassion at SAGE Veterinary Centers - Campbell.
