- **Concerns Regarding Lost Pet Protocol and Communication:** A detailed "Important Warning" review highlights issues with Southwoods' handling of a found, microchipped dog. The reviewer was allegedly told the hospital was "legally required to keep him" and refused the offer to foster the dog, despite offering contact information. The hospital also allegedly stated they would take the dog to the shelter the next day if the owner didn't come, but supposedly took him the same day. This experience led the reviewer to "not recommend taking found animals—or even your own pets—to Southwoods" due to perceived misinformation and a lack of urgency/empathy in this specific scenario, advising going directly to Guilford County Animal Shelter instead.
This stark contrast in experiences emphasizes that while their end-of-life care is exceptionally compassionate, pet owners should be aware of reported discrepancies in their procedures, particularly concerning lost or found animals, and may wish to clarify policies beforehand or contact local animal services directly in such cases.

Important Warning About Lost PetsIf you find a lost pet, do NOT take them to Southwoods!I found a sweet dog late one night and immediately grew attached. Wanting to do the right thing, I had him scanned for a microchip at the nearest vet, Southwoods. He was chipped—and that’s when things took a disappointing turn. The staff at Southwoods told me they were legally required to keep him, even though I offered to foster him until the owner was located. I gave them all my contact information and asked them to pass it along to the owner. I offered to keep the dog at my home in case the owner reached out. They refused and insisted he could not be returned to me.I later discovered that Guilford County Animal Services has a Stray to Foster Program, which encourages good Samaritans to foster found pets during the stray hold period—and they even offer support and supplies. I wish I had known that beforehand.Southwoods also claimed they would take the dog to the shelter the next day if the owner didn’t come, and that I could possibly adopt him from the shelter after the hold period. In reality, they took him to the shelter the same day.Based on this experience and the misinformation I was given, I would not recommend taking found animals—or even your own pets—to Southwoods. Please consider going directly to the Guilford County Animal Shelter or following their Stray to Foster guidelines if you find a lost pet.
Jun 12, 2025 · Connie MillerI came to Southwoods for euthanasia for my cat. They got the appointment scheduled quickly, and they exceeded my expectations at every turn. As soon as I said my cats name, they took me back to the room. They were gentle with everything, and they made certain things moved at the speed I wanted. We had all the time we needed for a last goodbye. I was very torn up, and they were helpful in trying to comfort me. Their price was very competitive (possibly the cheapest), and their cremation options were very nice. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Jun 07, 2025 · Adrian ColeNothing but 5 stars for Southwoods! They have been amazing to us and our babies. They’ve been my Wolverine’s vet since we adopted him, and they provided excellent puppy care. The staff are so eager to see him walk through the door. I know my baby is well loved and in great hands! Dr. Myers preformed his neuter, and we are happy to report a wonderful experience. Also, shout out to the front office team - y’all are great!
Dec 24, 2024 · Brianna JacobsLove all the ladies that work here. They truly care about both of our cats and the quality of care at this hospital is top notch. We had to amputate our sweet kitten's leg and they helped us through the devastating process with so much kindness. Our other cat who has asthma is very happy coming here even with him being an anxious cat. Probably because all the ladies love on our animals as if they were their own. Both my husband and I feel so grateful that we found this place to take care of our high maintenance babies!!! Love that it is owned and operated by women.
May 29, 2025 · Hannah Shelley BestJust left another review on another site and thought I should maybe update my google one. I'll leave the original, but my updated 2025 review is:These people are so good to me. I've been bringing my animals here for almost 20 years. They've seen my animals (and me) at our best and at our worst. The care my babies have received is priceless. Not literally....they've cost me tons, but the quality of care has been worth every penny. The love and compassion they showed when I had to put my first two babies down two years apart was how it should be done. Knowing that they care makes an absolutely devastating experience manageable. They're special people (and fun)! I've always enjoyed going just so I get to see and talk with them, and over the years, I've had to go A LOT. I trust them and I appreciate them more than I think they'll ever know.Original 2020 Review: I've been bringing my babies here for over 13 years. They love my animals and have always taken exceptional care of them. The doctors and staff are a great group of people that I look forward to seeing every time we go.
