VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital Introduce
For California pet owners, especially in the Pasadena area, choosing a veterinary hospital is a decision that requires careful consideration. You want a place that is not only competent but also a good fit for your pet's specific needs and your own expectations for communication and service. VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital is one of many options in the area, and like many businesses, it has a public profile that includes both high praise and serious criticism. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and factual overview of this facility, based on public information and customer reviews, to help local residents make an informed decision. We will explore the hospital's reputation for specialized services, such as international travel health certificates, while also delving into the serious concerns raised by some clients regarding communication and professionalism. The goal is to present a balanced perspective that acknowledges the positive experiences while also highlighting the potential issues that a pet owner might encounter. This is a crucial piece of information for anyone in the Bay Area, as a vet visit can be a stressful time, and being prepared for the range of possible experiences is key to ensuring the best outcome for your furry family member.
VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital is located at 2204 E Foothill Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107, USA. This address places the clinic on a major and easily accessible street in Pasadena. The location's position on Foothill Boulevard makes it a convenient destination for residents of Pasadena and the surrounding communities in the San Gabriel Valley. The ease of access is a significant advantage, especially for pet owners who may be traveling with a sick or anxious animal, or who are preparing for a complex procedure like international travel. Foothill Boulevard is a well-known thoroughfare, simplifying navigation for those who are not from the immediate area. The hospital's location is also part of a larger commercial corridor, which typically means there is adequate parking, another factor that contributes to a less stressful visit. For locals, the hospital's central location is a key benefit, ensuring that they can get their pets the care they need without a long and complicated journey. This is especially important for specialized services, as clients often come from a wider radius. The location of the hospital within a well-trafficked and easily reachable part of the city is a foundational element of its appeal to the local community.
VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital offers a range of services, and according to public reviews and its own public information, it is well-equipped to handle both general veterinary needs and specialized requirements. The hospital's affiliation with the VCA network provides it with access to a wide range of medical resources and a network of specialty hospitals, which is a significant asset. Based on available data and customer feedback, the services provided typically include:
International Travel Health Certificates: A standout service highlighted by a customer review is the hospital's expertise in providing international travel health certificates. They are described as "very professional and knowledgeable" in handling the complex paperwork and requirements for pets traveling across the world. This is a highly specialized and valuable service for a mobile community like California.
General Wellness and Exams: The hospital provides routine wellness exams for dogs and cats. As part of the VCA family, they likely offer a variety of preventive care services, including vaccinations, parasite prevention, and routine check-ups to keep pets healthy throughout their lives.
Diagnostic Services: The hospital conducts various diagnostic tests, such as eye tests, to evaluate a pet's health. While one customer's experience with the explanation of these tests was negative, the services themselves are available to aid in the diagnosis of pet health issues.
Prescription Medications: As part of their treatment plans, the hospital can prescribe and provide medications, such as eye drops, to address various conditions.
The features and highlights of VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital are a study in contrasts, with public feedback offering both highly positive and deeply negative experiences. A major highlight is the hospital's specialized expertise in international travel health certificates. For a specific need like this, the hospital is praised as the "place to go," with a customer noting that the team is "super reliable and attentive," despite the cost. The mention of an individual staff member, Anna-Laura, by name, highlights a positive and memorable interaction. However, this positive experience is juxtaposed with a very different account from another customer. A key negative feature that emerges from this review is a perception of unprofessionalism and a lack of clear communication. The customer felt the visit was "incredibly rushed," and that they were unable to get answers to their questions, leading to confusion and frustration. The quote "do you want the medication or not?" is a particularly alarming highlight of the perceived disrespectful and "disorderly service." This account paints a picture of a hospital where, despite some staff members being helpful (a vet tech later clarified everything), the overall professional standard was not consistently met. This dichotomy is a significant feature of the hospital's public profile: a place that can provide expert, attentive care for a specific need, but may also, in some cases, fall short on basic communication and empathy during a general visit. This makes VCA Foothill a hospital that requires a certain level of caution from new visitors who want to "understand their pet's health issues."

In conclusion, for California locals in the Pasadena area, VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital is a suitable choice for very specific needs, but may not be the ideal fit for everyone. The hospital’s primary strength, and its main selling point for many, is its expertise in specialized services like international travel health certificates. For a pet owner with this particular need, the hospital's knowledgeable and professional team, as highlighted in one review, makes it a reliable and trustworthy option, despite the cost. However, for general care, the hospital’s suitability is less certain. The conflicting reviews, particularly the one detailing a rushed and unprofessional experience, serve as an important cautionary tale. This feedback suggests that pet owners who value thorough communication, detailed explanations, and a clear understanding of their pet's health may need to be more assertive with the staff or consider other options. The hospital's affiliation with the VCA brand provides access to a large network and resources, which is a benefit, but as the negative review points out, it doesn't guarantee a consistent, high-quality patient experience at every visit. Therefore, for locals, VCA Foothill is a valuable resource for specialized services, but for routine care, it may be prudent to proceed with caution and a clear list of questions to ensure all concerns are addressed.

VCA Foothill Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Very professional and knowledgeable with international travel health certificates. If you need to take your fur baby across the world, this is the place to go. It’s not cheap, but they are super reliable and attentive. Thank you for everything! Especially Anna-Laura.
Feb 08, 2025 · Dawn WangVCA Foothill is by far the most unprofessional and inappropriate VCA I have ever been to. I brought my cat in for the first (and last time) for an inflamed and leaky eye. The entire vet visit felt incredibly rushed. I was never able to get answers to my questions and it constantly felt the vet techs or vet himself were rushing out of the room or walking away. Once my cat was evaluated and given an eye test they brought him out & stated they were not able to see anything of major trauma to the eye or ulcers, etc. They were going to prescribe him an eye drop medication. That truthfully left me with more questions. What exactly is this medication for? What could cause this to happen? What happens if the eye doesn’t heal? Could this be an upper respiratory infection? Yet, they continued to say “the person checking you out at the front desk can explain more.”As soon as another vet tech came out I asked him all my questions. He said he “I don’t know the vet said to prescribe the eye drops.” I asked if I could speak to the vet & the vet tech comes back and says the vet is with a patient. I continued to state that I was confused and would like some clarity. He states “it’s here on the paper .” Keep in mind my cats vet visit that day was $718…. If I have questions I would at least expect to be able to have them answered & not read them “from a piece of paper..” After continuing to say how I am unclear what the medication I am purchasing is for, he stated “do you want the medication or not?” This was such an unprofessional response & to be candid I was appalled at this service. Spending $700 to say for me to read a piece of paper is alarming & disturbing. Luckily another vet tech overheard & pulled me into a room where she fully broke down everything to me which I am extremely grateful for. Unfortunately that does not cover up the disrespectful, disappointing, and disorderly service this place has to offer. I will never be returning to this VCA. ***BE CAREFUL WHEN COMING HERE IF YOU LIKE UNDERSTANDING YOUR PETS HEALTH ISSUES ****
Jul 10, 2025 · Justine ZesatiI have been going here with my family since i was a child, and have decided to take my pets here now as an adult. I have found that the service quality has decreases substantially, I don't think I have had the same vet in the last few visits I have been here, and not to mention the sheer lack of appointments available, which is very frustrating especially when in the past you would rarely have this problem. As a child we would always see the same 2 vets with my childhood pets and there were never any oversight in care. While the facility is way nicer in terms of aesthetics, the quality in techs/vets has decreased drastically as well, they make zero effort in providing any knowledgable explanation in test exams, or alternatives when mentioning the pricing is an issue, they just hold an ipad in your face with random code title expecting you to fully understand why something is outrageously overpriced for what should be routine exams (not their fault, the systems but still very frustrating). I had to repeat nearly 3 times that I would like an alternative until I ended up having to make my own educated judgment based off of my own knowledge, which is minimal with animal care.As someone who is a healthcare provided (human healthcare provider) I found this to be incredibly unacceptable. I understand the ins and outs of how patient care works and why there are limitations in what providers can do, but empathy and communication goes a long way. When a provider makes no effort to connect or provide alternatives you place your patients in a box which is what i experienced today here. Will unfortunately be seeking another provider for my pets.
May 13, 2025 · Dani FutureMDWorkers here are nice, but VCA canceled direct authorization for third party pharmacy, so you are forced to take an extra visit and you have to personally mail in a physical prescription every time to your pharmacy in order to receive meds, which delays treatment, basically VCA wants to sell you the exact same thing for more money on the spot. Chewy offered to comp my expedited shipping on my pets’ meds because they think this is wrong for VCA to do. For certain highly specific meds and treatment, I understand, but for basic food and standardized preventative meds, this is stupid.
Jul 16, 2025 · Leo SuThank you, AnnaLaura, for helping me and my cat traveling overseas to Asia. She’s extremely helpful, knowledgeable and caring for her patients. Despite all the extremely complicated paperwork, she always has answers for you and she’s on top of everything. I truly appreciate her helps!
