Animal-AM Emergency Clinic of Pasadena is dedicated to providing urgent and emergency veterinary care. While a comprehensive list of all services is not available from the provided reviews, based on the nature of an emergency clinic and the customer experiences, the services generally offered would include:
Emergency Consultations and Triage: Immediate assessment of your pet's condition upon arrival to determine the severity and prioritize treatment, often involving a consultation fee.
Urgent Care for Non-Life-Threatening Conditions: Treatment for conditions that require prompt attention but may not be immediately life-threatening, such as sudden vomiting, diarrhea, minor injuries, or unusual behavior (like a cat acting strange or being very vocal).
Advanced Diagnostics: Utilization of diagnostic tools like X-rays (radiography) and blood work to quickly and accurately identify the underlying cause of your pet's symptoms. These tests are crucial for forming a diagnosis in emergency situations.
Intravenous (IV) Fluid Therapy: Administration of fluids to support hydration, manage shock, or deliver medications, common in cases of dehydration, illness, or post-trauma.
Medication Administration: Prescribing and dispensing necessary medications, such as anti-nausea drugs, antibiotics, or probiotics, to treat diagnosed conditions.

Animal-AM Emergency Clinic of Pasadena presents certain features and highlights that are important for potential clients to consider when seeking urgent veterinary care.
Availability for Urgent and Emergency Care: The clinic serves as a critical resource for pet owners when immediate veterinary attention is needed, particularly for unexpected illnesses or injuries, filling a vital role when regular vet offices may be closed.
Professional and Focused Veterinarians: Clients, like the one with a positive experience, highly recommend veterinarians such as Dr. Sophia Lam, praising her professionalism, focus, and ability to answer questions succinctly. This indicates a commitment to clear and direct medical communication.
Polite and Responsive Front Desk (in some cases): One positive review specifically highlights a polite and responsive front desk individual, suggesting that positive interactions with administrative staff can contribute to a better overall experience, especially during stressful urgent care visits.
Emphasis on Diagnostic Testing: The clinic readily utilizes diagnostic tools such as blood work and X-rays to investigate pet symptoms, indicating a protocol to gather comprehensive data for diagnosis.
However, it's also crucial to be aware of certain concerns and experiences reported by some clients:
Varying Patient Experience and Communication: While some experiences are positive, others highlight significant dissatisfaction, particularly regarding perceived over-recommendation of expensive tests without clear justification, and aggressive financial demands. One client reported waiting an hour before their cat was seen, and later described an experience of "emotional extortion" involving high-cost tests and recommendations for overnight stays without tangible improvement or a clear initial diagnosis.
Focus on Financial Transactions Over Clear Diagnosis (as perceived by some): A critical review suggests that the clinic's focus, at times, shifted towards recommending extensive tests and overnight stays, even when other vets quickly identified simpler, less costly solutions for the same symptoms. The perception of being "willing to spend money" on a dying pet being exploited was a serious concern raised.
Philosophical Alignment on Treatment: As noted by a positive reviewer, it is essential for clients to be "clear with your philosophy of treatment" when visiting an urgent care facility, implying that the clinic's approach might involve extensive diagnostics that may not align with every owner's preference for simpler interventions.

Given that this is an emergency and urgent care clinic, it is always recommended to call ahead if possible, especially during off-hours, to inform them of your arrival and your pet's condition. This can help them prepare for your pet's needs. Be prepared to discuss your pet's symptoms clearly and to ask any questions you may have about recommended diagnostics and treatment plans.
Animal-AM Emergency Clinic of Pasadena can be a suitable option for locals in Pasadena and surrounding California communities when facing a genuine pet emergency or urgent health concern, particularly during off-hours when regular veterinary clinics are closed. For California pet owners who prioritize immediate access to diagnostic tools like X-rays and blood work, and who appreciate a professional and focused approach from veterinarians like Dr. Sophia Lam, this clinic offers a valuable service. Its convenient location on Foothill Blvd in Pasadena ensures that urgent care is geographically accessible when time is of the essence. However, it's crucial for locals to understand the nature of urgent care facilities, which often involve extensive diagnostics and can lead to higher costs. As highlighted in both positive and negative reviews, having a clear "philosophy of treatment" and being prepared to ask direct questions about recommended procedures and associated costs is vital. While some experiences commend the clinic for saving their pets or providing excellent professional service, others express significant concerns regarding communication, transparency about declining health, and perceived financial pressure. Therefore, while Animal-AM Emergency Clinic of Pasadena fulfills a critical role in providing immediate care for California pets, potential clients should approach with clear expectations and active engagement in their pet's treatment plan.

Animal-AM Emergency Clinic of Pasadena Reviews
I had a positive experience here for urgent care… I’ve read some of the one star reviews here and had my reservations going in, however as with any urgent care facility - you must be clear with your “philosophy of treatment” I was lucky the front desk individual was polite and responsive, and I had Dr Sophia Lam as my vet. She was professional, focused, and answered my questions succinctly. I recommend Animal AM and I highly recommend Dr Lam! I will return God forbid if I need urgent care for my cat again. Good work!
Jul 15, 2025 · Jon OliverWhile I was at work my wife noticed that our cat was very vocal and acting strange so she waited for a few hours and noticed it was after the cat went to the bathroom. She had figured there was constipation or sorts and decided to take her to the vet just in case because she had torn into a bread bag earlier in the week. When she arrived she was made to wait for an hour before the vet could even take the cat back and in the mean time a few other people came in with dogs. On of the dogs got nervous and had a little accident and the receptionist instantly said that wasn't normal and they needed to do tests. Thankfully the owner knew better and declined. When it came time for our cat the vet felt her tummy and said there's no constipation but they would need to do some blood work and take an x-ray to make sure and if she didn't agree our cat would most likely pass away. Of course hearing that my wife agreed and paid $1000+ for the tests. Come to find out there's nothing wrong in her blood and her intestines look great but they wanted to keep her overnight and take more X-rays in the morning. Thankfully I was home by then and declined it. I took my cat somewhere else and instantly they took her back and quickly looked her over and said there's definitely no constipation and it doesn't feel knotted but her behind was very raw so most likely she had diarrhea which burned and after she would lick the area which would irritate it more. They gave her a cone and said to watch out for anything unusual. A few days later she's just fine and back to her normal self. Long story short don't take your animals here if it's possible and I will be filling a lawsuit regarding the emotional extortion they pulled on my wife
Jun 17, 2025 · James DayCongratulations to Dr. Chang for removing what he said was the largest uterus he has ever seen, from my little fur baby Sloane. Sloane had been quite healthy her entire life until she suddenly developed pyometra. I can confidently say that Dr. Chang and his team saved Sloane’s life. This was the second animal ER I took Sloane to. I originally went to the 24/7 emergency vet in Eagle Rock but there were some major red flags. Firstly, the doctor wouldn’t even come out to talk to me in person, rather spoke to me on the phone. Secondly, the quoted treatment included multiple unnecessary medications and services which they would not remove. (I’m a paramedic so I understand what is and what isn’t necessary).Upon arriving at Animal AM ER in Pasadena, we were greeted warmly and seen urgently within minutes, considering the severity of Sloane’s condition. Dr. Chang spoke with us in person, explaining in detail what the plan of care was. He was knowledgeable and had an amazing “vibe” to him. From that moment I knew Sloane was in good hands.
Mar 26, 2025 · Eugene Thomas ErlikhI had to take my dog last Saturday to emergency and the wait time was about maybe two hours or so, which is reasonable for Saturday night I have to take my dog because I noticed that his left eye he was squinting watery couldn’t keep his eye open, so I was very scared and earlier that day he did have a grooming appointment. And the front desk receptionist was really nice very helpful and the tech also was great, his name is Daniel and Dr. Chang was great. He was amazing. He explained everything on what could’ve happened and if it was a superficial cornea scratch or not that he was going to do the stein dye eye test and etc.. So after doing the dye test, his left eye did have his his cornea was scratched and Dr. Chang prescribed eye drops and just pretty much said you know he can heal from this. I thank God it was not an ulcer or any of that. He definitely comforted me and Daniel the tech was also very comforting. Their overall staff are very nice. I also went back for a follow up yesterday and Dr. Chang is the one who saw him again and once again great kind very caring and he also did another dye test on the same eye and thank God his eye is almost back to 100% recovery. I’m very thankful for this place and I give them five stars. They are amazing the staff last night was great too, and Daniel again was there and he was a tech and once again I’m very pleased with their service and the care that they showed me and my pet. I highly recommend this vet emergency clinic.
Jan 27, 2025 · Sreethe RumaI had a family friend tell me about this place where she took her dogs. She told me she had her dogs cremated there. Well my sweet Rusty who I have had for almost 18 years had passed away unexpectedly. I was in a state of shock so my family friend told me to call them. When I called I told the receptionist my situation that my cat just had passed away and if it was possible to have her cremated with them, she told me absolutely. I told her my fiance would be bringing her. When he got there she already had the papers to fill out ready for him to sign. The price was affordable. They went above and beyond our expectations. Not only did I get her ashes in a beautiful wood box but it came with a plaque of my cats name on top. Also got a certificate when she was cremated from an outside agency they work with. And last not least seeds forget me not flowers to plant in her memory. Exactly 3 weeks later I got a letter from them saying condolences. Most definitely recommend them. Whenever my family and I decide to get an animal we will be coming here to get them help. Thank you so much!
