Veterinary Behavior Solutions specializes exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders in pets, primarily dogs and cats. Their services are highly specialized, focusing on conditions that often require the expertise of a board-certified veterinary behaviorist.
Comprehensive Behavioral Consultations: This is the cornerstone of their service. It involves a super thorough intake process, including detailed forms and an in-person meeting. The doctor takes extensive time to listen, observe, and gather information about the pet's behavior, history, environment, and family dynamics to accurately diagnose the root causes of the issues.
Individualized Treatment Plans: Based on the diagnosis, a tailored treatment plan is developed. This plan often integrates multiple modalities, including behavior modification techniques, environmental management strategies, and, crucially, pharmaceutical interventions when appropriate. Medications are carefully prescribed and adjusted to alleviate anxiety or other underlying conditions that contribute to problematic behaviors.
Behavior Modification Coaching: The clinic provides extensive coaching to pet owners on how to implement behavior modification techniques. This may involve positive reinforcement strategies, desensitization, and counter-conditioning, broken down into "small action items" that are easy for owners to implement consistently.
Medication Management: As veterinary professionals, they are uniquely qualified to prescribe and manage psychotropic medications for pets. This often plays a critical role in calming anxiety, reducing aggression, and enabling behavioral training to be more effective.
Follow-Up Support: Ongoing support is a key component, with services like phone check-ups and follow-up zoom meetings with trainers. These remote sessions allow trainers to observe pets in their natural environment, providing real-time feedback and continued guidance, making the process more effective and convenient for Tennessee pet owners.
Addressing Complex Behavioral Issues: They specialize in severe and complex problems such as separation anxiety, thunderstorm phobias, various forms of aggression (towards people, other animals, or resource guarding), obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCDs), house soiling, spraying, excessive vocalization, and self-mutilation.
Veterinary Behavior Solutions distinguishes itself significantly in the Tennessee pet care landscape due to several unique features and the profound impact it has on the lives of pets and their families:
Expertise of Dr. Strickler: Dr. Strickler is consistently praised as a "very knowledgeable behavioral veterinarian" who is not only skilled in diagnosis and treatment but also deeply "passionate about her work" and "very emphatic on her patients." Her ability to "save our family altogether" by helping dogs indicates the profound and holistic impact of her work.
Holistic and Comprehensive Approach: The clinic’s strength lies in integrating medication with thorough behavior modification and owner empowerment. This multi-faceted approach, tailored to individual pets, addresses both the neurological and learned components of behavioral issues, leading to drastic improvements even in severe cases like aggression and high anxiety.
Empowering Pet Owners: Clients feel "empowered to retrain" their pets. The detailed treatment plans and the breaking down of training into "small action items" make the daunting task of behavioral modification manageable and effective for pet parents in Tennessee.
Effective Remote Support: The use of phone check-ups and Zoom meetings with trainers is a significant highlight. It allows for observations of the pet "in their own space" and provides real-time feedback, making the follow-up process convenient and highly effective, especially for busy individuals or pets who are stressed by clinic visits.
Life-Changing Results: Testimonials speak to "incredible victories" – from pets previously attempting to attack others now wanting to be cuddled, to overcoming debilitating anxiety. The focus is on enabling pets and their humans to "have a better life."
Value for Investment: While skepticism about the price is acknowledged, clients overwhelmingly conclude that the detailed treatment plans, effective training breakdown, and affordable follow-up visits make it "totally worth the money" for the life-altering improvements achieved.

Veterinary Behavior Solutions Reviews
I have been seeking advice and expertise from Dr. Strickler and team since I have adopted my first dog 4 years ago. Dr. Strickler is a very knowledgeable behavioral veterinarian who is not only great in addressing the dog behavioral issues but also very passionate about her work and very emphatic on her patients. I can’t express enough on how much Dr. Strickler has helped us - she didn’t only help on our dogs but also save our family altogether. I highly recommend Dr. Strickler to any pet parent who are experiencing the pet behavioral issues.
Oct 24, 2023 · Mew PFWe had an amazing experience with vet behaviour solutions, the doctor, and the trainers. Xena was super anxious, aggressive, high strung, and had attacked my blue Heeler and my cats multiple times. I had been bit multiple times trying to separate them. It looked like we were going to have to live with her separated from everyone else forever, and our engagement with friends and anyone coming in our house was limited, as we either had to put her away somewhere where she would still obsessively bark, or we would have to board her. It was extremely stressful. There was always a worry that she would bite someone coming into the house as well.I had kind of given up any hope that she could be different when I took her to the doctor. We completed a super thorough intake form, and had an in person meeting. The doctor started Xena on 2 different types of medication, both have with drastically improved the situation. We had 8 weeks of phone check ups with the doctor, along with keeping a daily behaviour journal. I had multiple zoom meetings with the trainer to learn clicker training.Everyone we interacted with at Vet Behaviour Solutions was super helpful and knowledgable and really empowered me to re train Xena and help her and her humans have a better life. These pictures show her with the cat that she previously tried to attack whenever she saw it, her resting on a bed on a bed on her own, and her meeting a new person for the first time and just wanting to be cuddled and did not bite. These are all incredible victories and we continue to work on her training and sociability. I was skeptical of the price at first, but after experiencing how detailed they are with the treatment plan, and how they break up the training into small action items that were easy for me to implement, I believe it was totally worth the money. The follow up trainer visits are very affordable as well and super helpful. I found it easier and more effective that they are held on zoom because then the trainer gets to observe my pet in their own space and give feedback on what they are doing in real time.
Jan 28, 2021 · Kateri RoseThe staff at Veterinary Behavior Solutions are top notch. They are extremely thorough and took a multifaceted approach to my dogs behavior. From the history I provided and the medical records sent from his regular veterinarian I felt as though they already knew him before our initial consultation. That interview was extensive and the treatment plan that was offered made a lot of sense. We had been working with a trainer for quite some time already and she was invited to join in the evaluation to add her observations and ask questions.I am also impressed with their detailed instructions as well as the organization and quick response to my questions. Couldn't have hoped for a better experience. Dr. Strickler and her staff are a 20 out of 10!
May 05, 2023 · Terry LawrenceDr. Strickler and her team have been so great with my dog and I. They take every concern I have and find solutions that actually work. We found a great medication + training plan for my anxious/reactive dog during my first consultation and things have been going very well!
Oct 16, 2023 · Regan IffertNot the type of care you would expect from a veterinarian. My experience- I paid an upfront $550 fee for a 1-2 hour initial consultation with Dr Strickler for my dogs reactivity issues. She sent me home with some written instructions for training ideas and a prescription for a new medicine to try. The $550 fee was supposed to cover 8 weeks of where Dr Strickler would be available to answer questions about my dog’s progress on new medicine. While taking the medicine and towards the end of those 8 weeks, my dog developed a new reaction. Dr Strickler refused to answer any questions about whether the reaction could be a side effect of the medicine unless I paid her another $90 dollars. On top of $550, a couple months ago. Because now, (by the time she had responded to my request for answers) it was a few days after the 8 week time period ended. And when she responded to my emails, she only sent links for me to set up a payment plan for the $90 dollars.Fortunately I was able to talk with my regular vet about the reaction. Then, I found out, if after 6 months I wanted to continue my dog on the medicine, I’d have to pay Dr Strickler another fee of $296. Just for writing the prescription for longer than the original 6 months (not including any questions that might come up, that’s another $90 each)So I am now seeing my regular vet to prescribe going forward and have found other training methods that work much better.I understand she has to operate a business but the fees for basic care are excessive, I felt the underlying compassion for a dog’s well-being was lacking.
