Veterinary Specialty Center of Stillwater Introduce
**Veterinary Specialty Center of Stillwater (VSCS)** stands as a beacon of advanced and specialized veterinary medicine in Oklahoma. This practice, co-founded by Dr. Danielle Dugat and Carey Falco, and proudly identified as **women-owned**, fills a critical need in the region by offering surgical and diagnostic services that often require referral outside of general practice. VSCS is dedicated to providing cutting-edge medical treatments for dogs and cats, specializing in areas like neurology, orthopedics, and complex soft tissue surgery.
The core of the clinic's renown is its expertise in advanced procedures, particularly in canine spinal care. Dr. Dugat, a board-certified small animal surgeon and former faculty member at Oklahoma State University, is a recognized expert in **Percutaneous Laser Disc Ablation (PLDA)**—a minimally invasive procedure pioneered at OSU to significantly reduce the risk of recurring Intervertebral Disc Herniation (IVDH), especially in breeds like Dachshunds. This specialization attracts patients not only from across Oklahoma but nationally, and even from Canada, seeking this life-changing preventive care.
VSCS operates primarily as a **referral-based specialty practice**, working collaboratively with primary care veterinarians across the state. This collaborative approach ensures that the general practitioner remains the central manager of a pet's health, while VSCS provides the specific, advanced intervention required for complex cases. However, they maintain the warmth and personalized touch of a small-town hospital, ensuring clients receive compassionate care alongside their high-tech treatments.
The team’s dedication to patient comfort and client education is highly praised. From initial consultations to post-operative care, staff members like Emma are noted for their competence, kindness, and meticulous transparency, ensuring pet owners have total peace of mind throughout what can be a stressful process. This commitment to combining high-level medicine with deeply compassionate care is what defines the VSCS experience for Oklahoma pet owners.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- For anyone navigating IVDD or considering PLDA (Percutaneous Laser Disc Ablation), I cannot recommend Dr. Dugat and the team at VSCS enough. ❤️🩹Earlier this year, my dachshund scared us with a painful cervical herniation. We went to see Dr. Dugat, fully expecting to need a CT scan and to hear bad news. Instead, she recommended medical management — and it worked. After a long stretch of being pain-free, med-free, and fully mobile, he became a candidate for LDA. This procedure lowers the chance of herniation in the treated discs to about 4%. Since he’s turning 10 in January and clearly has disc degeneration, we felt it was the right decision. (They can’t treat cervical discs, but this still helps prevent more severe, life-changing herniations further down his spine.)This little guy LOVES to run, chase bunnies, play, and (despite our best efforts) jump, so we wanted to give him the best chance at long-term mobility. 🐾From start to finish, the VSCS staff made the entire experience easier. The day before surgery, he had a full exam, vitals, and bloodwork to confirm he was ready. On procedure day, I dropped him off at 7am, and when we picked him up around 3pm he was groggy, wobbly, and looking a little silly with his new shave — but safe and sound. 💕Dr. Dugat is not only incredibly skilled but also deeply compassionate. It’s obvious how much she loves this breed. She even told me that if I ever get another dachshund, it’s worth considering PLDA preventatively at one year old. Her confidence and communication gave me total peace of mind.Emma was a true rockstar — intensely competent, kind, and so reassuring throughout the process. She patiently answered every question (sometimes twice!) and made sure I knew exactly what was happening at every step. That level of transparency means so much when you’re trusting someone with your dog’s health. The whole staff was equally wonderful: friendly, communicative, and clearly invested in their patients. It genuinely felt like they cared about Duesy almost as much as I do.Now we’re in recovery mode: a few days of pain meds and anti-inflammatories, plus two weeks of strict crate rest while the discs are vulnerable. The hardest part is that he feels good and doesn’t understand why he can’t play — but I know this is what will protect him in the long run.💸 Cost (exam, bloodwork, anesthesia, meds): about $2,500 — far less invasive, risky, or stressful than an emergency hemilaminectomy. Thanks to Dr. Dugat, Emma, and the entire VSCS team, I’m confident this will keep my little guy on bunny patrol for years to come. 🌸 August 21 · Briana Loeb
- We visited for my babygirl for surgery to remove her tumors in her mammary chain. The staff were very knowledgeable and supportive. They broke down what was necessary and the pricing. The manager was helpful and worked with me on the estimated costs.Unfortunately, my baby girl did not make it through the time I was saving up for her surgery.Overall, if and when I get another love bug, I’ll return here for any advanced veterinary care. - I cannot express enough how grateful I am to the Veterinary Specialty Center of Stillwater for the incredible care they provided to my cat, Dump. After visiting three other veterinary clinics and being told they either could not perform the necessary surgery or could not see him until the following week. VSC was able to get Dump in on short notice after his jaw was broken, and they had him in surgery the very next day.Dr. Dugat and her team were nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, Dr. Dugat’s confidence and expertise put me at ease. She never hesitated to explain what needed to be done, providing a clear understanding of the procedure, cost, and follow-up care. She and her team made sure Dump was in good hands throughout the entire process.Dump had two follow-up visits, and each time the VSC team went above and beyond. They were not only communicative and professional but also incredibly friendly and caring, always keeping me informed about his recovery. Thanks to Dr. Dugat and her team, Dump is back to his usual self, feeling 100%.I am so thankful for the exceptional care Dump received at VSC. They truly went above and beyond, and I highly recommend them to anyone in need of specialized veterinary care. Thank you, Dr. Dugat and everyone at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Stillwater! - Our 4 year old dachshund had IVDD surgery, and we wanted a long term preventative option. Though it took a lot of organization and expense to travel from Canada to the USA for PLDA (PLDA isn’t available in Canada) it was worth the trip. I can understand how Canadians would be hesitant to travel to the USA right now in this political climate, but we love our girl that much!Dr. Dugat was incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful.Bella had the procedure in February, and she’s had no issues since then. Thank you VSCS! August 06 · V A
- VSC did more than the surgery for our Border Collie Buddy. The whole staff answered questions, made at home necessary care easier with a print out of detailed instructions and fitted our dog for pickup halter so we could continue with at home recovery therapy. If there was a higher score than five they would have earned it because the care is over the top!
