Easter of 2025 was a day we don't want to relive but will remember forever.. our buna girl got a fishing hook with line caught in her mouth..we called everywhere and the only place to answer was mid maine animal clinic.. they helped us find resources to get financial help & told us to bring her in.. now here's where miracles happen.. after sedation and attempts to locate and remove the hook that moved further down and into the esophagus was unreachable the vet called us with a couple options, we were faced with being left to either probably surrender or watch our dog pass on.. one surgery being too risky the other being too expensive.. the vet then said let me try one more thing! 30 minutes later she called back, we thought oh god! But ... she says.. with this excitement in her voice "I GOT...I GOT IT..." we all burst into tears we couldn't freaking believe it!! It was a miracle.. our girl didn't even have a single wound! I wish I could of hugged that vet.. you woman whomever you are, are a blessing & miracle worker!! Truly Unbelievable! - Chelsey Dubois

The Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine specializes exclusively in emergency and urgent veterinary care. This means they are equipped with specific tools and expertise to handle critical situations, distinguishing them from general practice veterinarians. It's important to note that they do not offer routine veterinary services like vaccinations, wellness check-ups, pet boarding, or spay/neuter procedures. Their services are focused on immediate medical needs, which include:

  • Emergency Examinations and Triage: Upon arrival, pets are quickly assessed to determine the severity of their condition, with the most critical cases receiving immediate attention regardless of arrival order.
  • Trauma Care: Treatment for injuries sustained from accidents such as being hit by a car, animal attacks, falls, or other blunt force traumas, including lacerations and fractures.
  • Surgical Procedures: Emergency surgeries for conditions like foreign body ingestion, internal bleeding, bloat (GDV), severe wounds, or other life-threatening issues.
  • Intensive Care and Hospitalization: Continuous monitoring and supportive care for critically ill or injured patients who require round-the-clock attention.
  • Diagnostics: Rapid diagnostic capabilities including digital X-rays, basic ultrasound, in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis), and ECG to quickly identify underlying issues.
  • Toxicology and Poisoning: Assessment and treatment for pets who have ingested poisonous substances, including inducing vomiting or administering antidotes.
  • Pain Management: Immediate and effective strategies to alleviate pain and discomfort in injured or ill animals.
  • Respiratory Support: Management of breathing difficulties, including oxygen therapy and other interventions for conditions like choking or severe respiratory distress.
  • Fluid Therapy: Administration of intravenous fluids for dehydration, shock, or to support organ function.

The Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights that are particularly vital for an emergency veterinary facility.

  • Dedicated Emergency Focus: Unlike general practices that may offer limited urgent care during business hours, AECM operates specifically as an emergency hospital. This singular focus means their staff, equipment, and protocols are optimized for critical and time-sensitive situations, covering after-hours, weekends, and major holidays when most regular vets are closed. They are open weeknights from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM, and 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Experienced Emergency Professionals: The clinic is staffed with highly skilled veterinarians and veterinary professionals who are experienced in emergency medicine and surgery. Their expertise is crucial for rapid assessment and effective intervention during pet crises.
  • "Miracle Worker" Compassion: As highlighted in a poignant customer review, the staff can go "above and beyond" with their dedication. One account describes a vet's extraordinary effort to remove a fishing hook from a dog's esophagus after other options seemed grim, resulting in a "miracle" recovery without a single wound. This level of perseverance and compassion underscores their commitment to saving lives.
  • Financial Assistance Guidance: In stressful emergency situations, the clinic has shown a willingness to help owners explore financial resources, demonstrating an understanding of the emotional and financial burden of unexpected pet health issues.
  • Triage-Based System: While this can sometimes lead to longer waits for non-life-threatening issues, their triage system ensures that the most critical patients are seen first. This is a standard and necessary practice in emergency medicine to save lives.
  • Equipped for Advanced Emergency Procedures: Their medical and surgical capabilities include digital X-ray, various surgical procedures, intensive care monitoring, laboratory testing, basic ultrasound, and ECG, providing the necessary tools for comprehensive emergency diagnostics and treatment.
