Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
My dog has been a Banfield Wellness Plan member his entire life, and overall, we've had a solid understanding of the Banfield model. He’s generally a healthy dog who hasn’t required much hands-on care from veterinarians outside of routine visits. However, a recent experience left me extremely disappointed, and I feel it’s important to share. My dog developed a small growth on his paw. The vet recommended an aspirate to rule out anything serious, and the results came back negative—no malignancy. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks later, the growth got caught on something, which caused it to become an open wound after he began chewing at it. I brought him back to Banfield for an evaluation, expecting the next steps to focus on wound care and possibly discussing surgical options.During the visit, I spoke to the vet over the phone while driving to pick him up, and she said she was referring us to an oncologist. Hearing terms like “chemo,” “radiation,” and “oncology” in that context, especially after receiving a recent benign test result, was overwhelming and confusing. Once I arrived at the office, I asked to speak with the vet in person for clarity. The technician initially said the doctor would be right out, but later returned to inform me the vet was tied up with paperwork and wouldn’t be able to speak with me. Instead, I was handed a printout titled “What is Veterinary Oncology?” It felt impersonal and left me with more questions than answers.I did follow up with the oncologist two weeks later and was given an estimate of over $3,000+ to determine how far the presumed cancer had spread. This seemed excessive considering no one had provided definitive evidence of cancer in the first place. I asked for another aspirate on the wound and surrounding lymph node, and once again, no cancer cells were found. That second opinion likely saved me thousands of dollars in unnecessary testing. The growth has since recessed on its own, and no further treatment has been needed.I understand that general practice veterinarians have limitations and sometimes referrals are necessary. However, the way this situation was communicated, particularly the delivery of such serious possibilities without in-person discussion, was extremely disappointing. Clear, compassionate and in-person communication should be a priority, and the bare minimum, when discussing something as serious (and expensive) as a potential cancer diagnosis. I will not return to this location.
Jun 28, 2025 · Kristen TorringI’ve LOVED Banfield West so much that I’ve gone here for years no matter how far away I’ve lived from the office. The vets, vet techs, and office staff have all been above and beyond. However, my experience has been very poor recently. No one answers the phone anymore nor returns calls. I feel there is always just one person working here that cares but the lack of care from the rest of the staff is frustrating. Will be canceling my plan after my most recent experience.
Jun 22, 2025 · Callan MorrisonFirst of all, this location is extremely rude and inconsiderate. When I brought one of my cats into this location, the vet didn’t even spend 90 seconds in the room going over anything with me. They also were unable to do some of the blood work I requested, for whatever the excuse was.Second of all, their “wellness plan” is not worth it. They also do not explain the ends and outs of it. It is basically just a money grab, as if there is something wrong with your pet; the wellness plan does not cover any tests they want to run. I lost my beloved cat, and not only am I dealing with the heart break of losing a pet that was like a child to me- I will still be charged $35 a month for 6 more months. They also will not allow you to transfer the remaining months to a new animal. The BEST part of this is, this was never explained to me. They never gave me paperwork to read explaining what I was signing up for.Avoid this place at all costs. Other vet clinics are more expensive, but they actually care about your pets and you as a human being. This place also does not do anything emergency related. If you want your animal to be seen anything less than a weeks notice, you’re SOL.Banfield Animal Hospital cares more about your $$$ than your actual pet.
Jun 18, 2025 · Ava CampbellI've been taking my mini dachshund to Banfield West Charlotte Pike for 5 years and they have always taken great care of her. We've never had a bad experience here. Everyone has always treated us very kind and they are straight forward about the cost of her visits. Thank you all for taking such great care of Sophie.
Jun 27, 2024 · SCI have my cat and my dog on the wellness plans and love the convenience of basic coverage for vaccines and routine visits. Also the staff is super friendly! We absolutely love Cam, she is the best and our animals adore her.
