Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
I've used and recommended Banfield for the last 4 years as an optimum wellness customer - never had an issue with the Greer or Easley locations, but I'll never take my dog back to Laurens Road. After 3 hours of waiting, I asked the receptionist for an update and she stated they still had not started on my dog. I asked if I could have the dog back and would reschedule (since she has bad anxiety). When the receptionist came back, she said the vet was actively working on my dog, so I sat in the waiting area for the exam to finish. I chalked it up to a busy day and wasn't going to publicly bash the location until I heard from chewy.com today. The veterinarian refused to sign my dog's prescription for a heart worm preventative because they want to test to make sure she's not positive. I asked why this wasn't completed during her checkup at the end of April and the receptionist stated, "It's not due until June". So my dog is out of heart worm preventatives and can't even get a prescription for it until June (after another vet visit).
May 24, 2025 · Shan JDo NOT get Banfield's wellness plan or go to this location. Get Nationwide pet insurance + Nationwide's equivalent wellness plan instead (real insurance). Trust me! You'll pay less for services, you'll get better quality care (pick any vet, not stuck with Banfield), you'll get more coverage, like for emergency stuff (car accidents, illness) which is not covered in Banfield's plans. Listen to my story before you decide:I rescued a stray off the road who just had babies and has a serious UTI - upper urinary tract infection. She has blood in her urine everyday. I went into Banfield and paid out of pocket for a initial visit and some antibiotics ($221 for clavamox 375mg and a microchip, way overpriced meds retail). They offered their wellness plans after and I got one because it comes with a urine analysis plus some other nice quality of life stuff. They made me come in the next day to start with another initial visit for my plan to kick in. While there I asked for the urinalysis to culture and THEY DENIED ME. THEY DENIED ME A SERVICE THAT I PAID FOR AND IS INCLUDED IN MY PLAN! Why? Because they felt it "wasn't necessary." Not necessary to culture a dogs urine who has elevated white blood cells and is bleeding in her urine daily? And I paid for it..? But I can't get it..? Ok. Can't wait to see their generic response to this review. Not only that, I paid for a genetics panel (Wisdom Panel, $119 through Banfield but cheaper on Amazon.com) to check her for MDR-1 gene mutations before picking what heartworm medication to put her on. Well guess what? They forced me to get her on a medication that day saying it wouldn't be covered later if I didn't; I'd have to pay out of pocket if I chose to wait. So I love that for her... Un-necessarily forced to give her a drug that might give her neurologic problems in the future not knowing the risk, and I wasted my money on a $119 test I don't need anymore.I called to complain and guess what? India call center picked up. If I want to cancel I'd have to pay $700 + the $110 I already paid for her vaccines and heartworm meds. Vax and heartworm meds for $800 retail? You have to be kidding me! I should have gone to the Humane society or Chewy.com and got the same exact drugs for pennies. These people are con-men. The service at Laurens Road was terrible - spent 2 hours there waiting around and had to deal with a medical assistant that was stoned the whole time. She was trying to answer questions like she was the vet, and then was rude (I don't even think she realized she was being rude because she was obviously stoned out of her mind on something).I got screwed because I was in a rush to get this little baby taken care of. Please please please, if you have a new dog - don't give your money to these criminals. Get Nationwide or another real insurance that covers way more than Banfield's OWP Plans, and with better value plus better quality of care (you get to pick your vet, not stuck with Banfield). Then you can go to a real veterinarians office, see the same person every time, and have a real relationship with your doctor. Also, you'll have peace of mind knowing they'll be covered for accidents and illness too! That's big, friends. To Recap:>Banfield services are overpriced at retail by many $100's>Cost to cancel plan? You won't be happy...>The Wellness Plan's value pales in comparison to real pet insurers like Nationwide>Banfield OWP doesn't provide you what they promise in the plans; literally scam you out of money and when you need care the most and ask for it>Hidden costs, such as anesthesia in their spay/neuter plan. Don't be fooled>The quality of care at Banfield is inconsistent and varies greatly between the days, facilities>DANGEROUS/UNSAFE PRACTICE & decisions (trust me I'm a doctor. Also look at the other reviews!)>Frustrating/uneducated staff and wait times>Customer service number may route you to call center outside the USAPlease. You love your pet. Thats why you're here. Make the right choice for them and save yourself the trouble I went through.
Dec 07, 2024 · Richard SchaeferEdited: I had to put my friend of 11 years down because of this vets negligence.I don’t know if the doctors are not educated or even looked at my pet. I came in with an eye problem, they said my cats ears were dirty so that’s why his eye was so dilated. Spent $200 and some ear cleaning. A month and about $700 later at a different vet my cat has glaucoma. And I’m now taking him to a more expensive specialist and he might not get his vision back since I waited a month with this place and their answer to just do this and “wait to see how it goes down”I’m very upset that my cat will be partially blind because of this doctor and office staff.
Nov 05, 2024 · Kaitlyn PridemoreI was a little skeptical about first meeting, but everything worked out great. They helped me around budget, and they really cared. I really thanked him for that.
Apr 27, 2025 · Harold MckittrickBeen taking my babies for years now. My lab/shep mix is almost 12 and has some severe arthritis in her hips and back due to a broken back leg and she has their silver wellness plan that helps with the cost of her needs and they always take such good care of her. Even after moving from Florida to South Carolina, her plan never changed and the new care takers are even better.
