The Animal Dermatology Clinic specializes exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the skin, ears, hair, and claws of pets. Their services are highly specialized and typically include:
- Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergic Skin Conditions: This is a core focus, including environmental allergies (atopic dermatitis), food allergies, and flea allergy dermatitis. They offer advanced testing like intradermal (skin) allergy testing (IDAT) to pinpoint specific allergens.
- Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots & Drops): Developing tailored immunotherapy plans (allergy vaccines) to desensitize pets to environmental allergens, providing a long-term solution for itchy skin.
- Chronic Skin Disorders Management: Addressing complex and persistent skin issues, including bacterial and fungal infections of the skin and ears, autoimmune skin diseases, and hormonal skin conditions.
- Ear Disease and Video Otoscopy: Advanced diagnostics and treatment for chronic ear infections (otitis), utilizing video otoscopy for magnified examination of the ear canal and eardrum, and procedures like myringotomy for fluid drainage.
- Skin Biopsies: Performing skin biopsies to obtain tissue samples for accurate diagnosis of various skin diseases, infections, growths, or tumors.
- Surgical Procedures: Utilizing surgical techniques, including advanced CO2 laser surgery, for the removal of abnormal skin lesions, growths, and tumors, often resulting in less pain and faster recovery times. Cryosurgery for rapid freezing of unwanted skin lesions may also be offered.
- In-House Diagnostic Testing: Comprehensive laboratory services to analyze skin scrapes, trichograms (hair evaluation), impression smears, tape preparations, and other samples under a microscope for rapid diagnosis of parasites, fungi, and cellular abnormalities.
- Food Allergy Diagnostics: Guiding pet owners through elimination trials and other methods to accurately diagnose food allergies, as traditional blood or skin tests are often not reliable for this condition.
- Management of Autoimmune Illnesses: Specializing in the diagnosis and long-term management of autoimmune skin diseases, as highlighted by a client's experience.

Animal Dermatology Clinic Reviews
Dr. Nowell saved our cat when we were escaping a hurricane-wrecked area in Asheville back in the fall. We have continued to bring our cat to her for the treatment of the autoimmune illness that she diagnosed him with. She gave us fantastic recommendations, was very thorough with options, and taught us how to manage our cat's lifelong illness.Sorry for the two before pictures, but it really was a dramatic change and we are so grateful that he is better!

Jun 13, 2025 · Cynthia LanahanDr. Watson was absolutely wonderful and I appreciate her help with finding out what Yoshi is allergic to and devising a game plan moving forward. Her technician was also very helpful and explained everything thoroughly. I am so glad that we went there and had allergy testing done. I am very much the type of person where if there is testing or diagnostics available that can be done then let’s do it! Working in the veterinary field myself this facility was top-tier, clean, and operated at 100% efficiency. Thanks to everyone for making the visit great!

May 27, 2025 · karen gonzalezA wonderful attentive experience at a vet in Greenville--FINALLY! Since moving here, it has been a challenge for me to find a personable vet who, I dont know, actually seems interested in my pup and my concerns. Asks me questions. Then more questions. then other questions about things I didnt even think about. Yes please. All of that. We rely on our vets to see things we dont see so our 2-4 legged friendos live a long happy life. Ive been to at least 3-4 vets here and every time it reminded me to book my next appointment with my amazing vet in Charleston. Not this one though!Need a derm? Highly recommend this group. Great experience.
