They strive to be a reliable resource for preventive care, routine health maintenance, and critical support, ensuring your pet can live a longer, healthier life within the Bethlehem community.
Strategically situated at 1003 W Broad St #1015, Bethlehem, PA 18018, USA, Christmas City Veterinary Hospital offers a highly accessible location for pet owners throughout Bethlehem and its surrounding areas in the Lehigh Valley. Located on West Broad Street, a primary thoroughfare, the clinic is easy to find and reach, whether you're coming from local neighborhoods or nearby towns.
Ease of access is a significant benefit for pet parents, particularly during urgent situations or for routine visits that need to fit into a busy schedule. The central location in Bethlehem means less travel time for you and your pet, reducing potential stress for anxious animals. Ample parking facilities are typically available, further simplifying your visit. Christmas City Veterinary Hospital provides a comprehensive suite of veterinary services designed to meet the diverse health needs of dogs and cats. Their offerings span from preventive care to surgical procedures, all aimed at ensuring the long-term health and well-being of your beloved pets.
- Annual Wellness Visits: These visits are a core component of their care philosophy, designed to ensure every dog and cat receives a thorough examination at least once a year. They include risk assessments for infectious and hereditary diseases, and often incorporate early detection blood profiles to identify potential diseases in their initial, most treatable stages. This proactive approach is built on recommendations from prestigious veterinary organizations and Dr. Cawley's extensive experience.
- Spays and Neuters: Recognizing the importance of population control and its benefits for individual pet health, the hospital offers thorough and affordable spay and neuter procedures. These surgeries, performed by Dr. Cawley and monitored by experienced veterinary nursing staff, are crucial for preventing certain health issues and behavioral problems.
- Microchipping: To help reunite lost pets with their families, microchipping services are available. A tiny, painlessly implanted chip provides permanent identification, significantly increasing the chances of a happy reunion should your pet ever stray from home. This is especially recommended for travelers.
- Dentistry: Despite a common misconception, dental disease is prevalent in pets, affecting up to 80% of dogs and cats by age two. The hospital provides comprehensive dental care, including cleanings, to prevent periodontal disease, alleviate pain, and prevent systemic infections that can shorten a pet's lifespan. They emphasize that good oral health can contribute to pets living up to two years longer.
- Vaccinations: While routine vaccinations are essential, Christmas City Veterinary Hospital takes a thoughtful approach. They engage with owners to explain the illnesses these vaccines prevent and discuss individual risk factors for each pet, ensuring a tailored vaccination plan rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
- Surgical Procedures: Beyond spays and neuters, the hospital performs various surgical procedures. Clients are encouraged to call to confirm specific eligible surgeries, demonstrating a commitment to clear communication.
- Prescription Refills & Home Delivery: For convenience, pet owners can request prescription refills via phone, email, or an online portal. They also offer home delivery options for medications.
- Online Scheduling & Pet Portal: The hospital provides an online portal where clients can access pet reminders, appointments, vaccination records, and request refills, streamlining pet care management.
Christmas City Veterinary Hospital possesses several notable features and highlights that contribute to its standing in the Bethlehem community. These aspects showcase their commitment to pet care, though it's important to consider all perspectives when evaluating a healthcare provider.
- Experienced and Compassionate Leadership: The hospital is led by Dr. Lisa Cawley, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and a lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley with over 30 years of experience. Her background in small animal surgery, emergency care, and general veterinary healthcare practices, combined with her passion for teaching owners how to keep pets healthier, is a significant asset.
- Dedicated and Long-Tenured Staff: The team includes highly experienced professionals like Bobbie Dumoff, a credentialed veterinary technician with over 20 years of experience, and Michele Bankos, the leader of the veterinary nursing department with over 20 years of experience working with Dr. Cawley, including emergency veterinary care. This seasoned staff brings a wealth of knowledge and continuity to patient care.
- Strong Emphasis on Client Support in Difficult Times: Many clients speak to the incredible support provided during challenging periods, especially concerning end-of-life care decisions for senior pets. One review highlights, "Responsive, efficient, caring, compassionate - we could go on and on with superlatives!" regarding the care provided during a pet's senior years and end-of-life journey. This demonstrates a deep understanding of the emotional bond between pets and their owners.
- Community-Oriented Practice: Dr. Cawley opened the hospital in 2011, proud to join other Bethlehem Small Business Owners in providing services, income, and jobs to the community. This local integration suggests a vested interest in the well-being of the Bethlehem area.
- Focus on Preventive Health and Education: The hospital’s emphasis on annual wellness visits, early detection, and educating owners about vaccine benefits and dental care reflects a proactive approach to pet health, aiming for longer, healthier lives for their patients.
- Online Pet Portal and Home Delivery: Modern conveniences like an online portal for managing pet information, appointment requests, prescription refills, and the option for home delivery of medications streamline the client experience.
However, it's also important for potential clients to be aware of all customer experiences. While many reviews highlight exceptional care and compassion, particularly during difficult times, one detailed review points to a concerning incident involving a cat with urinary issues. This review describes a situation where initial emergency vet records indicating a need for prescription diet were allegedly overlooked by the office, leading to a severe condition that ultimately resulted in the cat's passing. The client noted a lack of follow-up from the office after expressing their distress and decision not to return. This serves as a reminder for all pet owners to maintain active communication with any veterinary provider and to always feel empowered to advocate for their pet's specific needs and questions.

For pet owners in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Christmas City Veterinary Hospital presents itself as a suitable option for comprehensive veterinary care, especially for those seeking a practice with a strong local presence and a commitment to compassionate support.
Firstly, its central Bethlehem location on West Broad Street offers undeniable convenience for residents throughout the city and surrounding areas. Easy accessibility for routine check-ups and more urgent needs is a significant factor for busy pet parents in the Lehigh Valley, ensuring consistent care without extensive travel. The hospital's deep roots in the community, with Dr. Lisa Cawley being a lifelong resident and establishing her practice locally, further solidifies its connection to the area's pet-owning families.

This level of empathetic support, combined with their focus on preventive health and education, indicates a practice that is invested in the entire lifespan of your pet.
However, as with any healthcare provider, it is crucial for local users to consider all aspects of the patient experience. While many commend the kindness and support of the staff, it's prudent to note the detailed concern raised by one client regarding a potential misdiagnosis and communication breakdown related to a specific dietary need for their cat. This underscores the importance of proactive engagement from pet owners, ensuring that all medical records are thoroughly reviewed and that any specific concerns or past diagnoses are explicitly discussed and confirmed during visits.
Ultimately, Christmas City Veterinary Hospital offers a blend of experienced local leadership, a dedicated staff, and a range of essential veterinary services. For those in Bethlehem seeking a compassionate and convenient veterinary partner, particularly for senior pets and comprehensive wellness, it remains a valuable local resource. As always, open communication and active participation in your pet's healthcare journey are key to ensuring the best outcomes.

Christmas City Veterinary Hospital Reviews
We have been so fortunate to find Dr. Cawley and her amazing staff when we relocated to Bethlehem. Our sweet pet received the best of care during her senior years - and everyone provided incredible support as we grappled with end of life care and decisions. Responsive, efficient, caring, compassionate - we could go on and on with superlatives!
Jan 20, 2025 · Michele SchultzIt took me a long time to write this review because I loved Dr Cawley and all the staff, so it was heartbreaking for me to have something bad happen with the office. My cat Mei started there as a patient after an emergency room visit where she was found to have crystals in her urine and urinary pain. It wasn't until over a year later when she died that I learned the emergency vet had told Dr. Cawley's office Mei needed a prescription diet, and forwarded all her ER records showing this.Mei was a frequent flyer at Christmas City and she was always assumed to have "anxiety" and prescribed Gabapentin. I'd asked at one point if she needed a prescription food and was told no and that this was just a stress response. When she started getting very sick, it was me, not the office, who insisted on both a fecal and urine testing. I brought in the urine and insisted it be tested.I was then told to go back to the ER if I wanted imaging, where she was found to have a 16mm stone in her bladder. She had to have surgery and the stone turned out to be a urate stone which is a more rare type. Mei passed away shortly after due to ongoing complications during her recovery. She'd be alive today had she been put on the correct food at the very beginning. She was barely 5 years old.I called the office and was in tears when I was told Mei needed surgery and that the office was given all the information they needed to prevent this and that I wouldn't be back. I sort of got an "Ok, sorry to hear that" but never one phone call from Dr Cawley or the office manager to discuss what happened. Not ONE follow up call or email to see how Mei was, which was heartbreaking because I really thought we had a good relationship.

Sep 03, 2024 · Lilly MillerWhat a good experience. Our dog has an ear infection. They came outside and explained everything in detail after his examination. They really care about animals. The fee's seem reasonable as well.
Nov 21, 2021 · Hurry HarryThey took care of all three of our dogs at once in the same room. As comfortable a situation anyone could hope for.
