The staff's dedication extends beyond medical treatment, as they also check in on the pet's human family, demonstrating a holistic approach to care. This level of empathy and support, especially during challenging times, truly sets them apart. For Louisiana residents, knowing that their pet will be greeted with kindness and that the veterinary team prioritizes both their physical health and emotional well-being fosters a deep sense of trust and confidence. MidCity Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive array of veterinary services, designed to provide complete care for your beloved pets. Their approach covers everything from routine preventative medicine to advanced diagnostics and treatment. While a detailed list of every single service may vary, based on typical veterinary hospital offerings and client feedback, you can expect:
General Wellness and Preventative Care: This foundational aspect includes thorough annual or semi-annual physical examinations tailored to your pet's age and needs, customized vaccination protocols to protect against prevalent diseases, and comprehensive parasite control strategies (fleas, ticks, heartworm, intestinal parasites). Nutritional counseling and weight management are also typically part of their wellness plans to promote overall health.
Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools to accurately assess your pet's health. This includes in-house laboratory capabilities for rapid blood tests (CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, and fecal exams. They also offer modern imaging services such as digital radiography (X-rays) for examining bones and internal organs, and likely ultrasound for more detailed soft tissue imaging. These tools are crucial for pinpointing health issues effectively.
Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of various internal diseases affecting organ systems like the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and gastrointestinal tract. This can involve managing chronic conditions, addressing acute illnesses, and coordinating care for complex systemic diseases.
Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are essential for pet health. This typically includes professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, dental X-rays to detect issues below the gumline, extractions of diseased teeth, and ongoing preventative dental care advice to maintain good oral hygiene.
Surgery: From routine surgical procedures like spays and neuters to more complex soft tissue surgeries, the hospital provides surgical interventions with a focus on patient safety, pain management, and meticulous post-operative care. All surgical procedures are performed with individualized anesthesia protocols and continuous monitoring.
Pain Management: Recognizing that pets, especially senior ones, can experience chronic pain, the hospital provides effective pain assessment and management strategies. This includes prescribing appropriate pain medications and exploring other modalities to ensure your pet's comfort and quality of life.
Senior Pet Care: With a significant number of senior pets being cared for (e.g., a 13-year-old golden retriever and 14-year-old pug mentioned in reviews), the hospital likely offers specialized care tailored to aging animals, focusing on early detection and management of age-related conditions like arthritis, organ dysfunction, and cognitive changes.
Oncology Support: As indicated by a review, the hospital supports pets diagnosed with serious conditions like cancer. While they may not provide all oncology treatments in-house, they are equipped to conduct initial diagnostics and work collaboratively with specialized oncology centers, providing seamless transitional care and managing aspects of the pet's overall well-being.
Exceptional Compassion and Empathy: This is arguably the strongest highlight, consistently noted in client testimonials. The staff and veterinarians are praised for being "kindness and compassion," extending care not only to the pets but also to their human families. The story of Camden, the golden retriever, demonstrates deep empathy, with the team providing comfort, regular follow-up calls, and even a proactive refund during a family's difficult time. This level of emotional support is invaluable to pet owners.
Patient-Centered Approach: Every pet is "greeted when they walk in the door," treating them "just like a patient would be in any doctors office." This personalized welcome sets a positive tone for the visit. The focus is clearly on the individual animal's well-being and comfort, making stressful situations easier for pets like Camden, who received "lots of scratches behind his ear."
Transparent and Honest Practices: The proactive refund for an unneeded test due to results from another clinic exemplifies an extraordinary level of honesty and financial transparency. This gesture, particularly impactful for a family in a difficult financial situation, builds immense trust and demonstrates a commitment to ethical practice over profit. It confirms for clients that the team is "good" and trustworthy.
Highly Competent and Experienced Staff: Clients consistently highlight the team's "expertise is second to none." Dr. Diggs (if applicable, or the unnamed doctor in the review) is described as "so nice" and able to make the pet's owner "feel good" by explaining "exactly what to do" during a tough diagnosis. This combination of medical knowledge and clear communication is highly valued.
Comprehensive Follow-up Care: The clinic excels in post-visit communication, with staff "calling to see how I was doing but also to see how mommy and daddy were doing." This continuous engagement demonstrates a genuine investment in the pet's recovery and the family's well-being, fostering a strong, supportive relationship.
Family-Like Environment: The overall sentiment from clients is that the clinic feels like a trusted partner, almost an extension of their own family, especially for long-term clients with senior pets. This creates a comfortable and reliable environment for ongoing veterinary care.

MidCity Veterinary Hospital Reviews
My name is Camden and I am a 13yo golden retriever. My mommy and daddy brought me here last week. We had to leave our house and my big back yard in Florida after that mean Hurricane Helene lady flooded our house so now we live at our apartment in New Orleans while mommy and daddy fix our house. I normally go to a really nice doctor at home, but when I started coughing a lot and mommy felt a big lump in my throat they brought me to Mid City.It was right after that day with all the parades and loud noises, I don't like them very much but, I digress. When mommy brought me in, the doctor was so nice and gave me lots of scratches behind my ear. . . I do like that. She started to tell mommy some things and even though I didn't know what she was saying mommy was crying so I knew it wasn't good. They stuck some needles in me, I definitely didn't like that, but I'm a boy so I didn't let them know that it hurt. But after that mommy took me home and I got a pup cup, they're really yummy. I got a call but daddy took the call because I don't understand much more than "want a biscuit," and it was the nice doctor. She told him about my test results. . . I studied hard for those tests so I was hoping for good grades. Unfortunately, I have something really bad but the doctor made daddy feel good and told him exactly what to do.I noticed that the phone rang a lot over the next couple of days and it was the wonderful people who gave me lots of pets and scratches behind the ear. They were calling to see how I was doing but also to see how mommy and daddy were doing. I think I was doing better than them.Daddy took me to another place because I have cancer and I need to have treatments so I can keep living a fun golden retriever life, plus I can't let my brother be alone without me. . .I mean who would he play with. While I was getting my treatment, daddy said that they called again. Here is where they almost made daddy cry again. They were calling to tell him that one of the tests they had ordered still hadn't come in and that the new place where I was getting my treatment was running a better test that made their test irrelevant and because the lab hadn't run it yet, they cancelled it and wanted to refund daddy a lot of money.I know mommy and daddy had told them that because we lost our house and are rebuilding it that we are not in a great financial situation right now and this gesture made daddy so happy and it made me happy too because I have a doggie sense of when people are good or bad and this just confirmed that I knew these people were good.Mommy and Daddy are going to take my brother, Calvin, there this week to get his "tires kicked" (I don't know why daddy says that but he says it every time we go to the doctor) and I heard him tell mommy that he really likes and trusts Mid City Vet.I'm looking forward to seeing them again too. They give great ear scratches!
Mar 17, 2025 · Calvin CamdenMid City Veterinary Hospital is excellent. With a 14 year old pug and a 4 year old pug, I can say that this is a place where every dog is greeted when they walk in the door…just like a patient would be in any doctors office. They’re treated with kindness and compassion, and their expertise is second to none. The very highest of recognition to all who work there.
May 30, 2025 · Patty MI can’t thank Dr. Hess enough for saving my cat’s life. He was suffering from a serious urinary blockage and needed PU surgery. She took the time to explain everything to me, answered all my questions, and reassured me that she would try her best.My cat is back to his old self, happy and playful, thanks to Dr. Hess's surgery. I can’t even begin to describe the relief of seeing him healthy again after everything he went through. She and her team took amazing care of him, not just during the procedure but throughout his recovery.I cannot recommend Dr. Hess enough. She gave my cat a second chance at life, and I’ll always be grateful.

Mar 19, 2025 · Edward ElbersI can't say enough good things about Dr Hess, Hugo, and all of the kind folks at this vet clinic. They have gone above and beyond to make sure that both of my dogs are treated thoroughly and properly. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for Quality Care for their animals. I've never been to another clinic that treated my pets better. 5 out of 5 stars all day.Update... it has been at least a year since I left my review and my opinion has not changed. I would give them 10 Stars if I could. Dr Hess and Hugo are some of the most generous human beings on earth. I owe them a great deal of gratitude for working with me and keeping my beloved 14-year-old dachshund alive. I've been to so many vet clinics where I feel like they were going through the motions and don't really care. I don't get that vibe from these folks at all. From David and Katie at the desk to everyone in the back. I make it a point not to call someone or something the best because that usually jinxes it, but these folks are top-notch and you should definitely feel safe and confident bringing your fur babies here.
