Nebraska Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals Introduce
For pet owners in Nebraska, realizing that a beloved companion needs specialized veterinary attention can be stressful, especially when the issue involves hidden pain in the mouth. **Nebraska Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals (NDOSA)**, located in Omaha, is a highly specialized **Veterinarian** practice dedicated entirely to advanced **Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery** for cats and dogs. Established as the only board-certified veterinary dentistry referral center in the state, NDOSA represents the pinnacle of specialized care in the region.
The core mission of NDOSA is simple yet profound: to restore every patient's mouth to a **pain-free and functional** state. Unlike general practice veterinarians who provide routine dental care, NDOSA’s team, led by a board-certified veterinary dentist (a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College), focuses on complex conditions. This can range from advanced periodontal disease and **Fractured Teeth** to oral tumors and complex maxillofacial trauma. Their unique expertise ensures that pets receive gold-standard assessment and treatment, often catching issues that may have been missed elsewhere, as one grateful pet owner's review confirms regarding a misdiagnosed case.
By specializing only in **Pet Dental** and **Oral Surgical** procedures, the clinic is able to maintain the highest level of equipment, expertise, and safety protocols, including mandatory **General Anesthesia** for all procedures. This ensures accurate diagnostics, pain management, and a secure environment for every patient undergoing specialized care. NDOSA serves as an essential partner to general practitioners across the region, functioning as a trusted **Veterinarian Referral** center for advanced **Small Animal Medicine** relating to the oral cavity.
Nebraska Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals is centrally located in Omaha, providing a vital resource for pets throughout Nebraska and the surrounding states. The facility is situated at **10810 Harney St Suite B, Omaha, NE 68154, USA**. The location within a multi-specialty building, often alongside other specialized veterinary services like orthopedic surgeons, underscores its position as a dedicated referral center.
Understanding that specialized care can mean bringing a pet in when they are unwell or anxious, NDOSA ensures that the physical location is welcoming and fully accessible:
- **Wheelchair Accessible Entrance:** The entrance and facility layout are designed to be fully accessible.
- **Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot:** Convenient parking ensures a smooth transition from the car to the facility.
- **Wheelchair Accessible Restroom:** Amenities are available and accessible for all clients.
As a specialty center, the scheduling process is designed to accommodate thorough, focused care. **Appointments Recommended** is the planning guideline, and pet owners are advised to call in advance. Furthermore, it is critical that pet owners remain available for contact (usually by phone) during the procedure, as final treatment decisions are often made by the veterinary dentist after the initial examination and imaging under anesthesia.
NDOSA provides the most advanced and comprehensive range of **Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery** procedures available in the region. These specialized services go far beyond routine **Cleaning And Polishing**, addressing complex disease and trauma in **For Cats** and dogs. The hospital’s full scope of services includes:
- **Comprehensive Diagnostic Imaging:**- **Advanced Imaging**, including **Computed Tomography (CT)** scans (Cone Beam CT, or CBCT), which provides three-dimensional visualization crucial for accurate diagnosis of root abscesses, jaw fractures, and oral masses.
- **Diagnostic Imaging** specifically for the oral cavity and surrounding structures.
- **Ultrasound Services** and specialized **Veterinary Radiology** capabilities when required for full patient assessment.

- **Advanced Dental and Oral Surgical Procedures:**- Treatment for complex periodontal disease and **Fractured Teeth**.
- Endodontic procedures such as root canal therapy and vital pulp therapy.
- Complex **Teeth Removal** (extractions) and other **Oral Surgical** interventions.
- Treatment for oral tumors and maxillofacial trauma management.
- Jaw fracture repair and reconstructive surgery.

- **Anesthesia and Safety Protocols:**- All procedures are performed under **General Anesthesia** to ensure a secure airway, pain-free treatment, and accurate subgingival (below the gumline) cleaning.
- Pre-anesthetic **Physical Exams** and recent **Laboratory Blood Testing** are generally required to maximize patient safety.

- **Collaborative Veterinary Care:**- Serving as a dedicated **Animal Hospital** and **Veterinary Practice** for referrals, NDOSA works closely with the pet's primary care **Referring Veterinarian**.
- Focus on all stages of life, including specialized attention for **Senior Veterinary** patients.

- **Veterinary Education:**- The facility is committed to **Continuing Education**, routinely hosting weekend seminars and providing mentorship to general practitioners and technicians to raise the standard of **Oral Health** knowledge across the region.

NDOSA stands out in the Nebraska veterinary landscape due to its singular focus and commitment to specialized excellence, offering numerous distinct advantages for **Pet Ownership** in the region:
- **Board-Certified Specialist Leadership:** The practice is led by Dr. Erich Rachwitz, DVM, DAVDC, a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. This board certification signifies extensive, additional training and experience specifically in **Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery**, a level of expertise unmatched by general **Veterinary Practice** settings. Dr. Rachwitz, a Nebraska native, also provides pro bono services to law enforcement and Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, underscoring his deep commitment to the community.
- **State-of-the-Art 3D Imaging:** Access to **Computed Tomography (CT)**, or CBCT, technology is a game-changer for oral diagnostics. This advanced tool allows the team to visualize the intricate structures of the jaw, teeth, and nasal cavity in three dimensions, making it possible to accurately diagnose complex issues, such as the cysts confirmed in the customer review, which had been previously misidentified as cancer at other facilities.
- **Exclusive Specialty Focus:** By not operating as a **General Practice**, the entire facility, from the licensed veterinary technicians (who are pet dental “hygienists”) to the specialized equipment and anesthetic protocols, is optimized for oral health procedures. This dedication allows them to provide a higher level of care and reduce procedural risk, as emphasized by the pet owner who felt their anxieties were greatly eased.
- **Comprehensive Anesthesia and Monitoring:** All procedures, which involve intensive **Medicine And Surgery**, are performed under carefully monitored **General Anesthesia**. This commitment to patient safety ensures a secure airway, prevents aspiration, and allows for thorough subgingival work, which is impossible in an awake pet.
- **Regional Referral Hub:** NDOSA has established strong relationships with hundreds of **Referring Veterinarian** hospitals across the greater Nebraska, South Dakota, and Western Iowa regions. This reputation highlights their status as the trusted authority for **Pet Dental** issues when a case requires specialist-level expertise.
Choosing Nebraska Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals is choosing specialized certainty over general uncertainty for your pet’s oral health. If your primary care veterinarian suspects a complex dental or oral issue—such as a persistent oral mass, a complicated tooth fracture, or severe, chronic pain—or if previous treatments have been unsuccessful, NDOSA is the definitive resource in Nebraska. The difference a board-certified specialist makes can be life-changing, as evidenced by the patient who was correctly diagnosed with cysts instead of cancer, saving her from unnecessary and invasive treatment.
For Nebraska pet owners, it is worth choosing NDOSA for their deep expertise, their advanced technology like CT, their commitment to the highest safety standards under **General Anesthesia**, and their compassionate, thorough communication. They are not a **General Practice**, but a specialized partner whose expertise ensures your pet’s smile is not only beautiful, but truly healthy and pain-free.
To begin the referral or consultation process for your pet's advanced dental or oral surgery needs, please reach out to the Omaha facility. NDOSA accepts patient referrals from primary care veterinarians across the region.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I am beyond grateful for the care Dr. Rachwitz and his team gave to my dog Munch. After taking my dog to multiple specialists in multiple States with no answers, I finally made a call to the office and was able to speak with doctor, it was then I knew I had to bring my dog here. I had been previously told that my dog had cancer and needed surgery/ radiation. After seeing Dr.Rachwitz, he was able to confirm that she just had cysts and needed teeth removed as well... Had I not been to this veterinary facility, my dog would have been through treatment and surgeries that were unnecessary. My dog Munch is better than she was when I brought her there, is eating like a champ, and we now have a confirmed diagnosis that is not cancerous. Thank you all so much. Although I hope I don't have to make the drive back up there, you know I would for the best care. Do not even hesitate to bring your dog here for anything oral related. April 26 · Danielle Akins
- I cannot say enough good things about the team at NDOSA. We had both our boxers in need of dental surgeries these last few weeks and they got us in right away. They took amazing care of our dogs and explained everything they needed to do with thorough detail. They answered all my questions before and after the procedures, as well as calling to follow up to see how the dogs were doing. They eased all my anxieties about the procedures and I knew my dogs were in great hands. We will always recommend them to anyone who needs animal dental care. Thanks for all you do! - We took our stage 4 kidney cat for dental care. Dr. Rachwitz and the team were so incredible. They provided thorough detail about the procedure, kept to their word and got our cat in and out of anesthesia in less than 30 minutes, which is critical for a cat with kidney disease. Hopefully we never have to return but if we did, we know our pets would be under amazing care. July 07 · Jeff Fuller
- My dog Izzy had a cancerous tumor in the roof of her mouth in November 2023 and Dr Erich Rachwitz and his staff was able to remove about 98%! They saved her! I can not thank them enough for the work that they do. Izzy had to have radiation at Iowa State afterwards and I'm happy to say she is 14 months clear! December 20 · Carol Fricke
- I recently had to bring my baby girl (Daisey Mae) to see Dr. Rachwicz. I could not be more pleased with how helpful, informative, thorough, and caring Dr. Rachwicz and his entire staff were to me and my sweet girl. Although she wasn’t thrilled to be there, I was more than confident that she was in good hands. AND.. she did get some chicken nuggets after her post op check up. She wasn’t at all impressed with the line in the drive through. 🤣 Thank you Dr. Rachwicz and staff for taking such good care of my baby girl. December 19 · Jenn Callison
