Norbeck Animal Clinic stands out in the Silver Spring veterinary community due to several key features that resonate deeply with pet owners, especially during sensitive times.
Exceptional Compassion and Empathy: The most prominent highlight, as shared by a profoundly grateful client, is the extraordinary compassion exhibited by Dr. Ivanov and his assistant, David, particularly during end-of-life care. They are described as "one of the most compassionate people I have ever met," who were "extremely gentle and sensitive towards our grief," making a "horrible experience as peaceful and kind as possible." This level of empathy provides immense comfort to grieving families, marking them as truly special in their field.
Experienced and Knowledgeable Medical Team: Beyond compassion, the clinic boasts a knowledgeable staff, including Dr. Ivanov, who is capable of explaining complex medical situations clearly, such as when a tumor was "not operable" and outlining "options." This expertise, combined with their 15 years of continuous care for a long-term patient, demonstrates a solid foundation of veterinary skill and commitment to long-term health, ensuring pets stay "still going strong for his age."
Building Long-Term Relationships: The clinic fosters enduring relationships with its clients and their pets. The testimonial of a client whose dog has been with them for 15 years speaks volumes about the trust and consistent quality of care provided over an extended period. This long-standing relationship indicates a stable and reliable practice.
Client-Centered Communication: The staff's ability to patiently explain complex medical information and provide options, even during emotionally charged situations, is a significant highlight. This clear and patient communication helps owners make informed decisions with confidence, knowing they are fully supported.
Dedication to Animal Well-being: The overall sentiment from positive reviews points to a team that genuinely loves animals and is deeply invested in their well-being. From helping a pet live their "best two months" after a difficult diagnosis to ensuring comfort during their final moments, the clinic's dedication to animal welfare shines through.
It is important to note a review regarding a specific service incident (nail trimming/shaving) that caused dissatisfaction. While the long-standing client expressed disappointment with this particular service, they still maintained "no issues when it comes down to health related things" and praised the staff's general excellence, suggesting that the core medical care remains highly valued. Norbeck Animal Clinic Reviews
We are still heartbroken from the loss of our girl. She was with us for 9 years. I was under an immense amount of guilt, shame, and stress whilst trying to figure out what the best option for her was. I spoke to Dr. Ivanov and he explained that her tumor was not operable, and what our options were. We gave our girl the best two months and we can only hope she felt the love and care. We still feel her today, even after her passing. Doctor Ivanov and his assistant David, were one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. It was almost fate that he was our doctor. He was extremely gentle and sensitive towards our grief. He was soft and kind and patient with us as we held her and he laid her in her basket. If I was in the right mind, I would've given them the biggest hug. Dr. Ivanov and David were beyond gentle and made a horrible experience as peaceful and kind as possible. I hope every doctor who is in this occupation knows just how needed they are. You have my endless gratitude.Thank you, to both of them, for the love you showed our family and our little girl. We will forever be thankful.
Jan 14, 2025 · Elizabeth LedesmaThis is my dogs primary vet for the last 15 years. Staff is excellent and I have no issues when it comes down to health related things. Thanks to them he’s still going strong for his age. 5 stars to that. However, this negative review is regarding his recent visit for nail trimming and cleaning up under his paws. I specifically told the technician to clean down UNDER his paws. What i received was completely unacceptable. He just shaved all his paws. To add to that, as my dog was brought to me, he was dripping blood from one of nails. They also wanted to charge me additional $60 for this job which I refused to pay. My dog had this service done many times in the past. I never had this issue.. I’m not sure what happened this time
Aug 22, 2024 · Andy R (Andy)Our dog Turron had a pleasant time during his visit to Norbeck. The service was excellent (from the front entrance to the actual vet appointment), and we even received advice on how to improve Turron’s behaviour. The team is highly qualified, and we will definitely be going back 🐶
Apr 08, 2025 · Mariana Jiménez MorenoI made an appointment to have my dog receive a rabies vaccination to be had yesterday. I specifically said ONLY a rabies shot, no exam. The office made the appointment. I added a nail trim the receptionist said was $25. A young man took her into a room with me and checked her heart and weight. I reiterated she was NOThaving an exam. Then she was whisked away for the rabies vaccination and nail trim. A man who said he was the vet brought her back and she “was fine”. When I went to pay the bill there was a $75 fee for an “exam,” a $35 fee for the nail trim and a “medical waste” fee adding to $170.25. I said I would not pay for an exam as I had specifically said only a rabies shot so another person came out to “explain” it was the law that an exam be given before a rabies vaccination. I replied if that is the case why does the county give (free) rabies without an exam? No answer. I paid the bill but will protest the charge because if that is the “law” the appointment should not have been made.
Apr 22, 2025 · Judy SchlechtThis is the best clinic. They saved us thousands of dollars on a surgery by helping us find a non profit that could take care of a growth in one of one cats ears when we couldn't afford the 5-7k that had been quoted at other places. They didn't stop until they helped us find a path forward.
