What is Worth Choosing
For Kenosha residents, choosing Prairie Side Veterinary Hospital is a decision that promises a high level of medical care combined with genuine compassion. The most compelling reason is the hospital's ability to offer a comprehensive suite of services under one roof. Whether your pet needs a routine checkup, advanced cancer treatment, or urgent care for an unexpected injury, this facility is equipped to handle it. This holistic approach simplifies your pet's healthcare management and ensures continuity of care, which is invaluable for both you and your animal. The availability of advanced technology, such as digital radiography and ultrasound, further enhances their capacity to provide accurate and timely diagnoses.
Another significant benefit is the hospital's commitment to patient comfort and emotional well-being. Multiple positive reviews highlight the staff's kindness and understanding, especially toward anxious or sick pets. The staff's willingness to go above and beyond, like getting on the floor to make a nervous dog comfortable during an exam, demonstrates their dedication to a fear-free philosophy. This compassionate care is just as important as the medical expertise, as it makes every visit a less stressful experience for both pets and their owners. The fact that the hospital is an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space also signals a welcoming environment for all members of the community.
While there have been some serious public complaints and a Wisconsin Department of Agriculture reprimand concerning one specific doctor and her conduct, it is important for potential clients to weigh the provided information carefully. The positive feedback from numerous clients who praise the overall staff and the successful treatment outcomes should also be considered. The hospital's ability to offer options for a medically compromised elderly cat, and the resulting improvement in its quality of life, speaks to a strong clinical ability. Ultimately, the decision of where to take your pet rests on your comfort level, but the broad range of services and the demonstrated kindness of much of the staff make Prairie Side Veterinary Hospital a consideration for pet owners seeking comprehensive care in the Kenosha area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I take my cat here. He has a lot of health issues/concerns, but he is an elderly cat and that's to be expected at his age. The Dr and front of house staff are all wonderful, friendly, kind and extremely sweet and understanding. My cat has had to see 2 specialists this year, but this vet office was the first one to be able to offer me options for him.I want to help my cat the best I can, but there has to be a ceiling to the spending I can do. This vet office understands this and they gave me hope for my sweet little fur baby I had lost over the years from vets that couldn't help him. He started playing again! He greets me when I get home again! He asks for up ups and wants to be around others again. I had given up hope of ever having those moments with him again. I will always be eternally grateful for everything this office has done to help my sweet fur baby Golden Grahams!!! 🥹💖
December 31 · Cou BerryUpdate #2 Dr. Huggins has been reprimanded by the WI Dept of Agriculture, who oversees vets. She has a mark against her license and will have to pay all costs to the board for legal svc used to investigate. I'd have to file a Civil Suit to recoup any damages such as costs, punitive, or other damages. I'm ok w this outcome bc the important part is that she's put on notice and they're watching her. Also, her pockets are a little lighter bc of her unprofessional behavior and neglectful care of my pet. I would advise NOT GOING THERE! They take the initiative to do what they want, not inform you, and expect you to just accept it. Pls know that she also expected i wasn't smart enough to have her reviewed.Update, PSV has since sent me a letter stating they no longer want my business. I respond w, as if I would EVER BRING MY PET OR AN ENEMY FOR THAT MATTER TO YOUR FACILITY! I also told them I've already found several other reputable places to take my pets but it still won't stop me from filing a complaint w the Dept of Agriculture (like I did) or making sure you're held accountable for the obvious neglect and ill will you show toward your patients.I've been going to PSV since 2013 or so and have had 3 dogs they've seen as patients. Although in the last few yrs they've had many turnovers w doctors and staff, I hadn't had any problems or concerns until recently. To make it short n sweet. My current dog [D'og] was going for a routine surgery (sx). The Dr that I'm familiar with apparently left, and no one thought to tell anyone abt it. A Dr I did NOT approve of did sx on my dog, which was botched. She secretly gave my 140 lb Rottweiler another dose of anesthesia ONCE MY HUSBAND LEFT THE FACILITY. This caused my dogs heart rate to drop below 30 bpm, and they had to bring him out of anesthesia b4 it was too late. They never gave preinstructions prior to sx or discussed the pros n cons of tye sx. All paperwork was signed but not discussed thoroughly the morning of the sx at 7:30am (b4 8am), and charged me a whole extra $1000 above the 'estimated range of costs' for their incompetence. The Dr who performed the surgery had an amputated or missing left hand and could barely examine, let alone restrain my dog, should a problem arise. There were other vet techs there, and even the largest one needed my husband's assistance when examining or doing anything w ANY OF MY DOGS (Rottweiler/Cane Corso/Rottweiler-Mastiff)! They changed the charges to reflect their mistake. They weren't available for the next several days, and we had to take him to another vet 'hospital' to get his botched sx addressed. When I finally got them to see me in person, Dr Huggins [who has one limb and performed the sx] was nasty, standoffish, and arrogant in her position that it was 'our fault'. I tried to have the matter escalated, but THEY NEVER CALLED ME, I ALWAYS CALLED THEM! I finally went to the facility again face to face to have a talk, and AGAIN, Dr Huggins was rude and arrogant (which I caught on tape). She also stuttered over her words and looked uncomfortable, which I also caught in tape. I left telling them I was seeking an attorney to sue her and her employer. Just yesterday, I received a packet from them 'certified mail' stating they could no longer be my vet. My reply to that is; AS IF THAT WASN'T ALREADY IMPLIED WITH MY STATEMENT THAT I WAS PURSUING LITIGATION AGAINST YOU! You people can take your pets there if you want to but, I would rather eat the ocean with a fork before I'd let anyone at this 'new facility' w their new attitudes and criminal accounting touch any of my pets nor will I EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE FRIEND OR ENEMY! Go there at your own risk! And I applaud the older couple that left after hearing how they treated me and my pet. These are ALL FACTS, so there will be no defamation of character or liable! I also know of two ppl that have worked there and can tell you how they operate as well. Oh, and they also have the nerve to have an outstanding balance of $124 for cream my dog needed after their botched surgery.
April 16 · Kris MooreVery satisfied with the care my pup has received. Her blood test came back positive for anaplasm from a tick. And they got me in that same day for further blood work. As we are leaving tomorrow for 2 weeks for vacation. I so appreciate them doing that, so I could have peace of mind on my vacation. The lady at the front desk is AWESOME!!! All the techs and the vet is amazing as well. I definitely recommend these folks for all your fur baby health and wellness needs!!
June 04 · Shena BohnerMy first experience with Prairie Side was a very sad but necessary visit with my Parent's dog a few years ago. The staff and Dr. were so kind and compassionate, though our dog had not been a patient. So when my cat needed some immediate care and I couldn't get into see her vet, I again turned to Prairie Side and have stuck with them. They've been very accommodating to my schedule. The staff is friendly and easygoing at all their locations. And while the facilities are clean, professional, and pleasant, I don't get the feeling that I'm visiting a pet spa with all the bells and whistles and high over-head, which is a great thing for me, as I am simply there for basic medical needs for my pets.
March 22 · CaraWorst vet in Kenosha!!!Went there for my kitty to be put down and said that we could not take her after she was put down due to state law. This is a lie as I had to put my dog down years ago at a different vet and they let us take him home no questions asked. Also was going to charge $700 for cremation and said she would be cremated with other animals!!! They are only after the money and do not care about your animal!! The doctor also kept insisting that my cat had a tumor in her lung due to cigarette smoking. BTW no one smokes were we live and never have. Ended up going to the ER vet on green bay road which was way better and definitely cared more for the animals and not the money. Please refrain from going to this vet. If I could report them I would.
