Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Introduce
As a pet owner in Washington, you know that our animal companions are a huge part of our lives. When a pet needs urgent or specialized care, having a reliable and expert team to turn to is essential. Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency in Gig Harbor provides that critical support. Founded to be a beacon of hope for pets and their families, this facility offers a level of care that goes far beyond a general practice. With a focus on specialty and emergency services, they are equipped to handle some of the most complex and critical cases, providing peace of mind to pet owners across the Puget Sound region.
Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency (PSVSE) is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to collaborative, exemplary care. The team here believes in caring for animals and their caregivers, working closely with both pet families and their regular veterinarians to provide the highest quality medical care. Their commitment to compassion is a defining feature, especially when dealing with the stress of a pet emergency. One client, whose 16-year-old dog was in congestive heart failure, shared how Dr. McElroy and the staff were "extremely sensitive to my heartbreak" during a difficult time, providing caring and gentle support. This level of empathy, even during a painful situation, highlights the clinic's dedication to its patients' emotional well-being as much as their physical health.
While the clinic's emergency services are a major asset, it's important for pet owners to understand the triage system. As one reviewer noted, this is an emergency vet clinic, so pets are seen based on the severity of their condition. While this system makes sense for saving lives, it can lead to long wait times for non-urgent issues. Though there may be room for improvement in communication, the clinic's ability to provide life-saving interventions and compassionate care during the worst moments of a pet owner's life remains a crucial and highly valued service in the community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I took my 16 year old dog here because she couldn’t breathe. Dr McElroy evaluated her, and put her in an oxygen tank right away. Unfortunately once she was examined it was determined she was in congestive heart failure. I made the choice to end her suffering. The Dr. and the other employees were extremely sensitive to my heartbreak, and explained the process to me patiently. The Dr. carried her out to my car, and was very caring and gentle with her. Even though it was the worst day of my life, they helped me thru it. I would highly recommend them. Below is my sweet dog Yasmin
July 04 · Lanise HermanThis is an emergency vet clinic, so pets are triaged based on the severity of their condition. If the issue isn’t urgent, you may end up waiting a long time—and while that system makes sense, it can be frustrating if communication from staff is lacking. I’ve had both positive and not-so-great experiences here. One particularly concerning visit involved my dog, who was losing his balance and vomiting. The vet diagnosed him with Horner’s Syndrome, but it turned out he actually had a severe ear infection—something his regular vet caught soon after. It was a scary situation, and I wish the initial exam had been more thorough. That said, I appreciate the service this clinic provides, especially during emergencies, but there’s definitely room for improvement in both communication and diagnostic accuracy. 🐾
July 23 · Becky HouseMy cat, Max, received amazing care and attention over the weekend at PSVS for an acute case of bilateral pneumonia. The clinicians, technicians and all the staff were just wonderful and helped him put him on the road to recovery. Special shout out to Matt, Elizabeth and their kindness and compassion towards both Max and me. I was THAT cat mom who probably drove everyone nuts with my calls and questions! Thank you all!
May 19 · Kirti SalunkheI took my cat Vinnie to their ER. He was very sick and not eating. Dr. Smithy and Reese did a great job of diagnosing to determine Vinnie's illness, and explained each step and option as they went through their process. I now know what his illness is and the next steps for his treatment. The ladies at the front desk were friendly and helpful. One technician stood out because of her effort to resolve an issue I had with one medication. Erin provided VIP Customer Service in helping me resolve the issue. I appreciate her superb effort, communication skills, patience, and follow-through in resolving the problem. Exceptional job Erin!
August 18 · RANDY HAMRENThese kind folks have saved my dog twice now. Front office staff & nurses doctors all really nice and caring. Its hectic and upsetting to have a pet emergency - the waiting room and staff created a comforting space compared to others Ive been to. The wait varies but has been better than other places. I live north of Seattle (have family in the area) but in an emergency would drive all the way here if I can!
