Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services Introduce
For pet owners across New York, especially those in Rochester and its surrounding communities, the sudden onset of a pet emergency can be one of the most frightening and stressful experiences imaginable. When your beloved animal companion is in pain or critically ill, having immediate access to expert and compassionate veterinary care is not just a comfort, it's a necessity. In these urgent moments, Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services (REVS) stands as a critical resource, providing essential after-hours and emergency care for pets in the New York region.
Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services is dedicated to addressing acute and life-threatening conditions that arise outside of regular veterinary clinic hours. While the nature of emergency care can lead to highly emotional and varied experiences, REVS aims to offer crucial support during pets' most vulnerable times. The clinic’s mission is to provide advanced medical attention, diagnostics, and treatment necessary to stabilize and aid pets in crisis, often acting as a vital extension of your regular veterinarian when their offices are closed.
Understanding that every emergency is unique and deeply personal, REVS strives to balance the urgent medical needs of the animal with the emotional needs of the pet parent. While experiences can differ, as highlighted by varied customer reviews, the core purpose of an emergency veterinary service is to be there when traditional clinics cannot, offering a lifeline in moments of critical need.
Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services is conveniently located at 445 W Commercial St, East Rochester, NY 14445, USA. This strategic location in East Rochester ensures excellent accessibility for pet owners throughout the greater Rochester metropolitan area and surrounding communities in New York. West Commercial Street is a recognizable thoroughfare, making the facility relatively easy to find, which is critically important during a stressful emergency situation.
The clinic's position allows for quick access from various parts of Rochester, Penfield, Webster, Brighton, and other nearby towns, minimizing travel time when every minute counts for a pet in crisis. As an emergency facility, it is designed to be reachable even during off-hours when regular vet clinics are closed. Ample parking is typically available at such critical care facilities, ensuring that pet owners can arrive swiftly and without additional logistical stress. This thoughtful placement and accessibility underscore REVS's role as a vital component of the emergency pet care infrastructure for New York residents.
As an emergency veterinary service, Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services focuses on critical and urgent care, providing immediate medical attention for pets facing sudden illness or injury. Their services are designed to stabilize, diagnose, and treat conditions that cannot wait for a regular veterinary appointment. While specific offerings may vary, common services provided by an emergency veterinary hospital include:
- Emergency Triage and Stabilization: Immediate assessment of a pet's condition upon arrival to determine the severity and prioritize treatment, followed by stabilization of vital signs.
- Emergency Diagnostics: Rapid on-site laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and advanced imaging (X-rays, potentially ultrasound) to quickly diagnose the underlying issue.
- Critical Care Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of critically ill or injured pets in an intensive care unit setting, often with specialized equipment.
- Emergency Surgery: Performance of urgent surgical procedures for conditions such as traumatic injuries, foreign body obstructions, or internal bleeding.
- Pain Management: Administration of pain relief to improve comfort and facilitate healing for pets suffering from injury or illness.
- Fluid Therapy and IV Support: Administration of intravenous fluids and medications to address dehydration, shock, and other critical conditions.
- Trauma and Wound Care: Treatment for injuries sustained from accidents, fights, or other traumas, including complex wound management.
- Urinary Blockage Treatment: Specialized care for life-threatening conditions like urinary blockages in cats, as highlighted by a client review.
- Overnight Observation and Hospitalization: Providing continuous care and monitoring for pets that require extended hospitalization.
- Oxygen Therapy: Supplying oxygen to pets with respiratory distress or other conditions impacting their breathing.
- Consultation and Referral: Collaborating with primary care veterinarians and, when necessary, referring pets to specialists for ongoing or advanced care.
Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services, like any emergency facility, experiences a range of outcomes and client perceptions. However, several highlights emerge from customer feedback, particularly regarding compassionate care in challenging situations:
- Compassionate and Patient Staff (for many): While some experiences differ, a detailed positive review emphasizes that "every single staff member I interacted with treated us with compassion, patience, and genuine kindness." This includes front desk staff, vet techs, and veterinarians.
- Empathetic and Informative Veterinarians: Dr. Wingfield is specifically praised for being "incredibly patient and compassionate." He "fully explained everything: what was happening, what could happen, and what the best- and worst-case scenarios were," ensuring the owner felt "prepared and supported."
- Dedicated Financial Counseling: The financial advisor was noted as "incredibly kind, helpful, and patient," offering "so many options" without pressure, and demonstrating genuine care beyond just "money bag" perception.
- Above-and-Beyond Service: Examples like a front desk staff member getting a smaller carrier for future visits highlight a team willing to go "above and beyond" for client comfort.
- Timely and Effective Treatment for Many Emergencies: The successful resolution of a life-threatening "urinary blockage" demonstrates their capability in handling critical conditions effectively, leading to a "best-case outcome."
- Clear Aftercare Instructions: Knowledgeable staff provide thorough discharge instructions, ensuring pet owners feel "confident in what to do next."
It is important to acknowledge that emergency services inherently involve high-stress situations, and client experiences can vary. However, the detailed positive review indicates a strong dedication to compassionate care and clear communication for many families in their hour of need.

Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services Reviews
This place prefers profit over doing what is ethical for a pet in their last days.It costs more to "fix" things than it does to honor a dog's quality of life over the quantity of living.A 12 year old 60lb dog with 2 torn ACLS and multiple tumors is not going to live a better life by seeing a specialist, as you recommended. In our hour of need, in our EMERGENCY, you turned us away because our dog is "fixable". She is in pain. She is unable to use the bathroom herself. She is not herself. One of the hardest decisions a pet parent can make is when to honor the life lived by their sweet honey.I don't know how you can be an emergency vet when in an emergency situation you turn people away because you could make moremoney by "fixing" our sweet girl.SHAME ON YOU. Shame on you.
Jun 19, 2025 · Emily LamicaIf I could rate higher than 5 stars, I sure would.I brought my male cat, Winter, in for an emergency urinary blockage on Tuesday, and I cannot express enough how incredible the care was — not just for my kitty, but for me as well. From 11am to 7pm, every single staff member I interacted with treated us with compassion, patience, and genuine kindness. The girls at the front desk were so kind from the moment I arrived. I asked for help getting his carrier out of the car — all I had was a large crate — and one of the girls jumped up immediately to assist. Later, as I was filling out paperwork in the waiting room, she brought me a smaller carrier to take home so future vet visits would be easier. That’s not something she had to do, but she went out of her way to make things a little better for me. It meant so much.Dr. Wingfield was incredibly patient and compassionate. When he delivered the difficult news about the severity of the blockage, he gave me a few moments to process it — handed me a box of tissues, paused, and made space for me to breathe before continuing. He fully explained everything: what was happening, what could happen, and what the best- and worst-case scenarios were. While it’s hard to hear the worst, having all the information helped me feel prepared and supported in the middle of a terrifying situation. I spent the many hours we were there hoping for the best — and thanks to this amazing team, we received the best-case outcome. The financial advisor I worked with was also incredibly kind, helpful, and patient. She went over so many options with me, gave me time to make phone calls and reach out to friends and family, and never made me feel rushed or pressured. I asked her, “If this were your pet, would you feel like you were doing the right thing?” — and she was honest with me. That moment meant the world. I could see how much she cared, and that made all the difference. It was very obvious that my kitty and I were more than just a “money bag” to them — they genuinely cared. When we were ready to be discharged, another very kind and knowledgeable woman came in to go over everything I needed to know for aftercare. She answered all my questions without hesitation, making sure I felt confident in what to do next.Since we left on Tuesday, my sweet boy has been feeling better and making good progress. He’s eating, purring, playful, and slowly returning to his happy self. This cat saved my life — and thanks to your team, you saved his.I truly wish I could remember the names of everyone who helped us, because every single person went above and beyond. The patience, kindness, and respect I received from this entire clinic — from front desk to vet techs to Dr. Wingfield — was unbelievable. It’s so clear that everyone there is in the exact field they’re meant to be in. I will always recommend them to anyone in need of emergency veterinary services. Winter and I (and his sister, Phoebe) are endlessly grateful❤️
May 29, 2025 · Brenna NixonMy dog became suddenly became very sick and my vet could not see her and gave me the no# for Emergancy vet. I took her there and the staff came out and took her and I went in a room . Within 5 minutes Dr. Waynefield came in and told me she was very sick and would be running tests. In a short time he shared and showed me how large her heart was. I asked to see her and she was struggling. Her numbers were down. I had a very hard choice to make. Dr Waynefield gave me options and was very honest what she was facing. I chose to have her euthanized. I have never dealt with a veterninariun that was so smart , compassioniate and honest that truly loved animals. He has a very hard job. I called him the next day to see if he would be my vet. He is excellent and there are angels on this earth . Thank you Dr Waynefield and the excellent staff .
Jun 17, 2025 · TracyMy cat died less than 2 weeks after this office said he was dramatic!!! Brought my cat in for what another vet thought to be a possible partial urinary blockage or kidney issue. They kept him there for hours and charged me a TON just to tell me he’s “dramatic” and send me home with pain medication… he died less than 2 weeks later at 3 years old. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Do not trust them with your pet’s health
Jun 17, 2025 · Lindsey GreeneWhen my baby Princess was reaching the end of her life, I visited a couple of times and called a couple more times with questions or concerns in the middle of the night. They were always helpful and empathetic. One night, it became clear it was Princess's time. The doctor there talked us through all our options. He was knowledgeable and kind, understanding and supportive. He explained the whole process of euthanasia and what to expect at each step. It made the whole process much less scary and I felt confident knowing I was making the best decision for my best friend of 16 years. You can trust Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services with your best friend.
