★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Where do I begin! I promise it will be worth the read. And if you're looking for a new Vet Hopefully you will RUN to get established with Sunset Point Animal Hospital.I switched over to Dr. Freeman about a year ago with my two labs; Paisley(7) and Myla(8). My mom met him at Calvary High School in Clearwater and told me I HAD to go get established with him. A year later, I feel so grateful because I'm not sure Myla would be alive right now if I hadn't. A Vet you're confident is irreplaceable and invaluable. The Back Story: Myla hurt her hind leg just before Hurricane Milton but was unable to be seen until we came back due to evacuation. In the mean time, I tried to give her Carprofen I had on hand from Paisleys leg injury last year. I called on Friday feeling desperate for her to be seen as we drove home and they kindly squeezed me in. We started her on a treatment plan for her back knee and followed up close the following week.Over the next several days Myla stopped eating and didn't seem like herself. Her knee seemed to be getting better but she was looking physically worse. Dr. Freeman ran some labs and took an X-ray of her belly. During his assessment he picked up on a VERY faint yellow tinge in her eyes that wasn't there the previous week. She was in liver shock.Things got scary really quick, we had to discuss the possibility of cancer/a tumor and even the need to euthanize. As hard as it was to hear; He was soo gentle with his delivery and provided many options for how to proceed. He allowed me time to talk things out WITH him and we decided to keep Myla in his office overnight (where she was loved and comfortable) on IV Fluids to wait for his friend/college Dr. Weaver (who does traveling work) to come to his office for an emergent Liver Ultrasound the following day.Dr. Freeman went in multiple times throughout the night to check on Myla and take her out for potty breaks. He sent me videos and emailed me with updates to ease my mind. I seriously don't think he slept. The following day was one of the hardest days. His staff set me up in a little room where I could hang out with Myla while we waited for Dr. Weaver do an Ultrasound on her Liver. We got good news, it wasn't cancer! However, we dont know what caused this acute liver shock. We are still in the process of figuring things out BUT Myla is making improvements and is able to ride out her sickness in the comfort of her own home. She is on IV Fluids around the clock. (So grateful they allowed me to come home and manager her here). She ate through an IV overnight and the office squeezed me in for a new IV.I wish I could show you all his report cards from each visit. There is so much attention to detail and descriptive instructions about things we talk about in the appointment to reference back to.Having a sick pup is so nerve wrecking but I have felt so much peace and confidence with Myla being in the hands of every single staff member at Sunset Point Animal Hospital.I have to give a super SPECIAL thank you to Josie and Danielle. For all of the hugs, the help, the water, the tissues, the pee pads, the blankets and most importantly; for loving on Myla all day when I wasn't there. I never worried about her once knowing she had you!!!I pray Myla makes a full recovery. She is in the BEST hands and getting the BEST care possible.Take this as confirmation that your pet needs Sunset Point Animal Hospital.
October 22 · Kayla WoodburyWish I could say I had a good experience with this vet. After 3 years of miscommunication I found a new vet. The office staff is rude and don’t communicate with each other no matter how clear you are when you call. You sit in a room and are ignored for an hour while the vets dictates to a tech who types away on a computer. You can’t ask questions without feeling like you are interrupting him. Nothing is really explained and you are forced to read some huge print out to figure out what is next while paying an 800 bill. I asked repeatedly what could be done for my 12 year old dog who limps. I never got anywhere with this and was just told it was age and arthritis. My new vet actually did something to help, And btw my 12 year old dog does not have any signs of arthritis based on X-rays. He has a spine issue that is causing him the pain so I’m now FINALLY doing something to help him. It’s sad the money and frustration I had to deal with here. They act like they know your dog better than you do, No! I’ve always been right about my dogs and very brushed off at this vet. I wasted 3 years and a lot of money for no results. Shame. Oh and if you voice your opinion or disagree, may god help you!!! We parted ways very mutually all the while I now know I was correct with all my concerns after finding a new vet who actually listens to me and allows me to asks questions about MY DOGS!!! Wish I had something good to say but I wish I had changed vets a lot sooner.
May 10 · R SI have been meaning to write this review for some time. In February of 2022 we got our puppy and very soon thereafter began going to Sunset Point Animal Hospital. We were advised by our breeder to not give oral meds until at least 6 months but after our pup got some fleas after trying topical the doc recommended oral meds. We began taking oral heart worm and flea/tick meds and almost immediately our puppy began getting ill. He would be lethargic, not eat, throw up, weird neurological symptoms, head sensitivity, etc. It was so so scary as this was our first dog and he was so young. It would eventually go away but after every monthly dose, these episodes would begin, not immediately (be aware). They ran blood tests, we paid for multiple hospital visits, and eventually they put him on steroids. After 3-4 months of this happening, one of the doctors mentioned either going to SCAN and getting a head MRI which would cost roughly 5-6K or euthanizing (he was 6 months old). Throughout this time I kept mentioning, "Do we think it's the meds? Do we think it's the meds?" Which they always responded with a very confident, NO. Well finally after trusting my own gut and talking with Dr. Cathy (an amazing holistic vet in the area), I got our pup off the monthly meds and off the steroids and the scary sick symptoms went away and have never returned. I will say I thought all the doctors were very nice here but unfortunately in our experience, they couldn't see the forest through the trees and this almost cost us our dog's life. I felt the need to write this just in case someone out there is reading this. I'm not saying avoid this place at all costs, but I am saying sometimes medical doctors these days (for animals or humans) are just not versed well enough on the whole picture and what these meds (albeit in some cases super helpful) are really doing to us. Trust your gut. Ask questions. AND DEFINITELY GET A SECOND OPINION. AND IF YOU CAN, VISIT DR. CATHY. SHE IS A LIFE SAVER AND ABSOLUTELY AMAZING WITH DOGS.
April 24 · Alexandra CordobaI came here after feeling like my last vet was using scare tactics to make more money off of me. As soon as we met Dr. Freeman, we knew we were in a much better place to receive amazing care for our dog. He is so gentle with our dog, he takes the time to explain everything and answer all questions, and he is very concerned with not only providing great care for the animals, but also with saving the owners some money when he can. For example, our last vet had our dog on an expensive prescription allergy spray. Dr. Freeman assessed our dog’s condition and told us we could get the same result by purchasing fish oil, which is a lot cheaper. He is a good vet and a good person, and all the assistants and techs are incredibly kind, as well. This is by far the best vet in this area. If you care about your animals, take them here!
May 24 · Maggie RiceDr. Freeman is knowledgeable, compassionate, caring, and has gained my trust with Vets again. He takes great care for our Jamie, and when we had to say goodbye to our Jacob. He came to the house, was very patient and explained everything. His office even signed a card and sent it to us. All handwritten sympathy each one personal. Very grateful for him and his staff. Thank you
