Sunset Veterinary Hospital Reviews
An amazingly caring, knowledgable staff. When my canary had an eye infection a month ago, this place saved both him and I… we able to be seen quickly and with high efficacy (detailed correspondance with the veterinarian and full explanations of the medications we were given).I am so very grateful for this vet hospital as there were very few other available avian vets, and I did not feel out of place at all bringing in a bird (especially due to his small size). The exam went smoothly and my canary was handled with care. They are also highly organized and responsive with emails. The front desk staff are pleasures to correspond with and extremely respectful of both pets and owners. (They were even so kind as to offer to keep my bird behind their desk if I wanted to leave for a short walk (as I arrived to the appointment approx. 20 minutes early)).I can also tell the place is kept very clean, as I (sadly) have allergies to dogs and cats, but did not have any allergic symptoms while there.Dr. Chan is the best, and I am very thankful for this veterinarian clinic in San Francisco. I would really like to recommend their avian services for the depth and ease of veterinary care.(Note: Posted photos were taken with verbal permission).
Sep 29, 2023 · MaliaWe brought our cats here for an investigation into some upper respiratory symptoms. Vet spent ~5 minutes with us, ordered $600 of labs and then left. We were told nothing was out of the ordinary beyond some numbers in their blood work for kidney issues. We took them to another vet for a second opinion, who actually took the time to examine them and found they have signs of a bacterial infection that can be very damaging and spread to humans. As a neighbor and concerned cat dad, I advise against bringing your animals here.
Jun 06, 2025 · Jesse KriegeDr. Chan is good and attentive to my pets. She’s been my numerous pets’ go-to vet since 8 years ago when she was at Balboa Pet Hospital. She knows how to interact with dogs of different temperaments with confidence. I took two stars off because the products (both prescribed monthly preventive pills or non-prescriptive ear flush) are very expensive with a huge price jack-up. For instance the ear flush was only $42 on Amazon and they charged me $72+! Unfortunately my husband bought it from this vet clinic without knowing that we’ve already had a new bottle at home. I went over to return it (unopened with sealing). Dr. Chu (the owner of this clinic) denied return claiming that it’s a prescriptive meds. First it’s not bc I did get a bottle from Amazon without prescription. Second, it’s not med — it’s a preventative ear flush and mind you, it’s still sealed and unopened. The owner just wanna squeeze every juice out of you. I would still come here because of Dr. Chan but I definitely will compare price before I purchased any products here. Be aware!
May 14, 2025 · Shirley ChanThis is my vet and they’ve been great for the last year!My only complaint would be that they won’t give a vaccine without a physical, even if my cat has recently had a physical from them.
Dec 22, 2024 · Matt BI've enjoyed this office in the past, but this review is for my most recent experience and concerns the technicians in particular. We brought our dog in for a vaccine, some blood work, and a nail trim. The tech ended up trimming the nails REALLY short and they were completely ragged. OK, no big deal. They're not a grooming service, so I'm adjusting my expectations. Nail trim was $50, which seemed a little high for how ragged and badly done the trim was, but again, no biggie. Until the next day when my dog is limping and favoring one paw in particular. We noticed that one of the nails was bleeding and had split due to the nail being trimmed so short. When we tried to even touch the paw, our dog would whimper. Cue our concerns because he's so obviously in pain. We end up taking him back to Sunset Vet. They didn't take any of the blame for the injury, said the split nail had nothing to do with his nail trim (even though the nails were trimmed irresponsibly short) and charged us an additional $160 for the visit. Now, we have to soak and treat his nail twice a day and keep him in a cone for two weeks. Our dog is miserable and in pain. All because a vet tech did a bad nail trim. Honestly, if Sunset Vet had taken ANY responsibility whatsoever, I wouldn't be writing this review. Had they reimbursed the nail trim fee, I wouldn't be writing this review. Had they been apologetic at all, I wouldn't be writing this review. But the way they handled this was not acceptable.
