VCA Boonsboro Animal Hospital Reviews
I regret choosing this practice for my two cats since I moved to Bedford County two years ago.In my initial intake appointment, I saw Dr McConnell and I thought she would be a good fit. VCA did not let me know they'd be switching me between their 3 vets at random.Nobody here can write a quote that's worth the paper it's written on. Dr Boyette seems to be under the impression that pet owners are swimming in money and can give the green light to just drop an extra $1k on surgery while he was in the middle of performing it and while my male cat was actively under anesthesia. He scolded me harshly as though I was being difficult on purpose. Staff suspected my cat might have needed to have teeth removed, but don't have adequate testing available to be able to determine this for sure before surgery & repeatedly refused to write a quote for removing 1 tooth, 2 teeth, etc. so the quote I got was only for exploratory surgery. Obviously this was inadequate considering, like me, most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and don't make six figures like vets do.Dr Pasternak doesn't bother listening to pet owners or writing their concerns in the pet's file. She's very new to her job and it showed. In August she missed my cat's cancer that would kill her by Christmas; instead Dr Pasternak told me my cat was "very healthy for her age," laughed in my face, and falsely reassured me that I had no reason to worry. In December after visiting the urgent care and also bringing my female cat to VCA again, I had to contact a previous vet in another city to get anyone to explain some of my cat's test results, tell me her potential treatment options (although he was obviously incapable of telling me what staff with VCA Boonsboro would be willing to do), walk me through a Quality of Life Scale test, etc. This is something I should have been able to receive from VCA staff, as well as the advisement for euthanasia, but vet tech Savannah and her supervisor Dawn repeatedly prevented me from talking to a vet at VCA. They both seemed annoyed that I would even ask for professional advice about my rapidly dying cat.At our euthanasia appointment, I was presented with memorial options that were no longer offered by the crematory VCA is partnered with. Staff members in a back room looked at updated options without my input, picked out something similar to what I'd chosen, and selected it on my behalf without confirming the substitution with me.I wish I could have gotten my female cat seen somewhere else for euthanasia, so I could have pet her one last time while she was on her way to meet Jesus instead of disrespectfully being crowded out of the way by Dawn. I was not in a good state of mind to ask Dawn to leave the room or to at least back off and make space for me, but Dawn should have known better than to greedily steal our final moments for herself.Immediately after declaring my female cat dead, Dr McConnell callously suggested I go replace my best friend of over a decade with a new kitten so that my remaining cat– who'd also lost his best friend and needed his own time to grieve– wouldn't be lonely. I think she saw dollar signs with all the treatments a new kitten would need, but it will be a long time before I'm ready to get a new pet, and hopefully by now it's clear that I won't be back to VCA Boonsboro if I do.I understand that vets aren't wizards and that cats don't live forever, but I feel that I would have been better off choosing another practice. It's too late for my babygirl, but now I have learned a painful lesson about the value of using BBB accredited veterinary services, properly advocating for my pets, and quickly getting a second opinion when it's clear I'm not being listened to.

Jun 23, 2025 · Beth AdamsThe staff at this location is absolutely amazing. I called them in the morning after our primary vet left us high and dry and the emergency mobile vet not having any available slots and Boonsboro moved mountains to see my girl. They were through, kind and understanding. They have lifelong patients for our family, truly don't know what we would do without them.
Dec 20, 2024 · Katie McIntyreUpdating my review -- still at 5 stars. It is now 40 years since I started taking my precious dogs to Boonsboro Animal Hospital. Lots has changed over the years, but the care is still the best. When it changed to VCA Boonsboro, they didn't miss a beat. The vets are wonderful and the staff is compassionate and caring. All 3 of my current crew have been with them since puppyhood and they are helping the older two navigate their senior years with thoroughness and compassion. Looking forward to many more years of working together. For almost 29 years our dogs have been cared for by the folks at Boonsboro Animal Hospital. We've been through tough times and the sadness of saying good-bye, but we've also had the joy of good health and timely intervention and many years of happy and healthy Poodles . Nobody could ask for better care or more compassion than from Dr. Case and Dr. McConnell and all the staff at Boonsboro Animal Hospital. They are always willing to help, educate and provide the latest and best standard of care. We are so grateful to them.
May 07, 2025 · MaryAnn EustisThe reason I gave them only a 3 is how their corporate style is money first and their charges are absolutely outrageous!! We are new to the area and needed to establish my 14 year old amazing dog with a vet. She has terrible allergies and needs to get allergy injections every three weeks. Before the vet will even walk out n the room you get an estimate of charges from the tech. I was absolutely stunned that a simple cytology to test her ear was $60. I pulled up the bill in my email from our last vet in a fairly pricey town where we are from in Florida and they charged $10. for that same service which is merely putting a Qtip in her ear and looking at it under a microscope. Loved the sweet vet who seemed very young and probably straight out of school and feel bad that she’ll probably lose many patients over VCA’s greed. Disgusting how they take advantage of people who want their babies to have good care. Yup just like someone else said big business buys up all these small businesses and increases prices to egregious amounts. Hopefully people look further as loving owners may sacrifice care as they can’t afford ridiculous prices. VCA look at your prices. This isn’t Beverly Hills. Quit taking advantage of people who are seeking good care for their babies!! WONT BE BACK!!
