VCA Pine Bush Animal Hospital presents a mix of features and highlights that are important for local New York pet owners to consider.
AAHA Accreditation: In 2015, VCA Pine Bush Animal Hospital was certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This accreditation is significant as only 12-15% of small animal hospitals achieve this honor, voluntarily upholding AAHA's high standards across numerous areas of veterinary care. This indicates a commitment to quality and a rigorous evaluation of their practices.
Dedicated and Informative Staff: Positive feedback highlights the "entire staff" as "always so informative and take such great care of my animals." This suggests a team that is not only caring but also committed to educating pet owners about their animals' health needs.
Access to Broader VCA Network Resources: Being part of VCA Animal Hospitals means access to a larger network of veterinary resources. This can include benefits like the VCA app, through which a client reported being able to speak to someone for help at almost 1 AM during a pet scare, followed by proactive follow-up from Dr. Evans and staff.
Focus on Patient and Client Experience: The hospital states its mission is to "deliver the best medical care for pets and the best experience for pet owners." They aim for a "comfortable, familiar and warm atmosphere."
However, it's also important to acknowledge reported concerns from some clients:
Concerns Regarding Authorization for Services and Billing: One significant review describes a highly negative experience where extensive tests (X-rays, blood work, sonogram) were performed on a horse without explicit authorization, leading to a substantial, unexpected bill and subsequent collection issues. This client strongly expressed that authorization was not obtained for "ANY of these tests" and noted being charged for an "emergency" visit without prior disclosure. This raises questions about communication protocols regarding costs and procedures.
Customer Service Issues Related to Billing: The same review details persistent and reportedly "rude" calls from the billing department, particularly concerning during a difficult personal time for the client. The client also stated that a staff member made an inappropriate comment regarding their financial situation and horse ownership.
Variability in Client Experience: While some clients express strong satisfaction, others report very distressing experiences, particularly concerning billing and authorization. This suggests a potential inconsistency in client communication or service delivery that prospective clients should be aware of and inquire about.

For New York residents considering VCA Pine Bush Animal Hospital, it would be prudent to have detailed conversations about their pet's needs, proposed treatments, and financial agreements to ensure alignment with expectations. VCA Pine Bush Animal Hospital Reviews
So my horse came up lame, I talked to the vet through text about what to do etc. long story short I asked if she could come “put eyes on him” after 3 days of no improvement. She said “I’m right down the street I can come on my way back to the office and just look at him for you” I told her I had to work and couldn’t be there then. She said she could come anyway and she’ll call me when she gets there. She wound up doing all these crazy tests, X-rays, blocks, advanced blood work, sonogram etc etc. The bill wound up being $1500!!!!!I NEVER authorized ANY of these tests I was also charged $400 for an “emergency “ visit which I wasn’t told before hand. I literally JUST wanted her to look at him, maybe give some meds and call it a day. (My horse just needed some rest and was completely fine in a week fyi. )The billing woman Michelle called me every week to get a payment which I was unable to pay considering I had just lost my fiancé to cancer and was trying to find my footing still AND even said to me “you can’t pay this bill and you own a horse”ummm HOW DARE SHE! Not only was she rude over and over but I SHOULD NOT have to pay this bill! At least if she knocked off some money maybe I’d feel better about it but nope! I’ve worked for vets for over 16 years and we would NEVER do ANY tests or anything like that without getting authorization from the owner FIRST!Now they’re sending me to collections!Needless to say IM VERY UNHAPPY and EXTREMELY UPSET! Just be careful!!
May 14, 2025 · K KorneliussenI absolutely love Dr. Evans and the entire staff here. They’re always so informative and take such great care of my animals. I recently had a little scare with my sweet dog and was able to speak to someone through the vca app at almost 1am who was able to help me figure out what was happening, on top of that Dr. Evans saw what had happened and him and the staff followed up to make sure all was good with my Sophie. I’m so thankful for them!
May 22, 2024 · Angela DDr. Evans was incredibly helpful and informative, and took the time to make sure our dog was comfortable during their visit. A great experience overall.
Apr 29, 2024 · Erin ShockerHello, I would like to start off by saying we have used this vetfor many years-I am not sure what happened but we had to takeour dog Luna here for an emergency visits-she was shaking uncontrollable, she was very weak and panting-she was losing weight and not eating-you can tell she was in pain-and the vet just would not help her-he told us to give her benadryl-we knew this was not going to help-so we had to take her back in several more times and spent over $1400.00 just to be told to take herto a specialist-which was over a 2 hour ride-now understand she couldn't even go out to pee-how in the world could we drive her over 2 hours-I just can't believe he wouldn't do anything to help her. just so wrong-I would never recommend them to anyone. Even the office staff had no heart-they were always so rude. No compassion. Please do not take your animals here. We tookher to another local vet and they immediately put her on medication and within a week she has improved. But becauseshe was sick for so long, she will have to be on medicationfor a while. Thank you to the new vet and staff for helping her.
Aug 13, 2023 · Angela Newman - ConsultantOur family has been going to Pine Bush Animal Hospital for about 15 years and we have always been very happy with their office. Dr. Jack treats the dogs like family and as others have said, gets right down on the floor with them. It's like taking them to see an old friend. Recently we've seen Dr. Evans and he has been fantastic with my dog as well. I highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a vet.
