4525 Duke St, Alexandria, VA 22304, USA

4.0
I want to express my gratitude to the team at VEG Alexandra, my experience has been outstanding from my initial emergency call close to midnight to our departure. I had called 3 other 24hr emergency vets in the area and was turned away because they were short staffed even after expressing extreme concern with our dog being in labor and having complication. Dr. Cunningham, her team: Adam, Sam, Angie and Mena provide prompt medical attention as soon as we walked in. Dr. Cunningham was transparent, walked us through process and created an acting plan to help our girl, Mia. The professionalism, compassion and care everyone showed us during moments of anguish made us feel at ease, cared for and we knew Mia was in great hands, her safety was priority.I highly recommend VEG Alexandrea to anyone looking for an attentive emergency VET that genuinely cares for all, THANK YOU!! - Cecilia Ortiz

Features / Highlights

VEG ER for Pets distinguishes itself with a revolutionary approach to emergency veterinary care, prioritizing transparency, pet parent involvement, and a deeply compassionate environment during stressful times.

  • 24/7 Availability, No Appointment Needed: This is arguably their most critical feature. Pet emergencies don't wait, and VEG ensures that veterinary expertise is always available, day or night, holidays included. You can call and speak with a vet immediately or walk in anytime.
  • Stay-Together Philosophy: A groundbreaking aspect of VEG is their commitment to keeping pet parents with their pets throughout the entire treatment process, including in exam rooms, during diagnostics, and even in surgery viewing areas. This transparency and continuous presence significantly lowers stress for both pet and owner. For overnight stays, pull-out beds are available so owners can comfort their pets.
  • Immediate Attention Upon Arrival: Unlike some emergency vets that might have long waiting periods, VEG prides itself on prompt medical attention. As soon as you walk in, your pet is triaged, and care begins, addressing critical needs without delay.
  • Transparent Communication: As highlighted in customer reviews, the VEG team, including veterinarians like Dr. Cunningham and Dr. Adams, are praised for being "transparent," explaining processes clearly, outlining treatment plans, and answering all questions. This open dialogue helps ease anguish and builds trust.
  • Exceptional Compassion and Professionalism: Reviewers consistently commend the entire team (doctors, nurses, and staff like Adam, Sam, Angie, and Mena) for their "professionalism, compassion, and care." This empathetic approach is particularly vital during highly stressful and emotional emergency situations.
  • Acceptance of All Pets: VEG's commitment to treating "any animal that fits through the door," including exotics like rabbits and reptiles, is a significant advantage for owners of diverse pets.
  • Problem Solvers When Others Turn Away: As seen in a review, VEG was able to accommodate a dog in labor with complications when other 24-hour vets in the area were "short-staffed" and "turned away" the client. This highlights their dedication to being there when needed most.
  • Stress-Reducing Environment: The facility is designed to be clean, with no off-putting smells, contributing to a calmer environment. The staff’s gentle handling and the option to stay with your pet also contribute to reducing stress for the animal.
