VEG is not your typical daytime vet clinic; it's a dedicated emergency and critical care hospital designed to handle everything from unexpected accidents to severe illnesses, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. What sets VEG apart, and what resonates deeply with local pet owners, is their philosophy of open communication and unparalleled client involvement. This innovative approach to emergency care provides an immense sense of comfort and confidence during what can be a frightening experience. For us in San Antonio, knowing that there's a place that prioritizes both the pet's well-being and the human-animal bond, even in a crisis, is incredibly reassuring. Veterinary Emergency Group Reviews
We are so incredibly grateful to VEG for the care we received over three days. No one wants to have to go to ER but, this was the best ER experience I have ever had. The staff and vets are extremely kind and compassionate. I have never been to any kind of urgent or emergency vet situation where the vets are SO completely accessible. The most incredible part of the experience is that, you never have to be separated from your pet. My (separation anxiety) dog had to stay for several days to receive treatment for an acute kidney injury, and I was Able to stay by his side, the entire time through every test and treatment. We were set up in a room that had a bed so I even was able to get sleep during the nights! I I am confident that this completely lowered my dogs, levels of stress and helped him heal faster. My kids were able to come and visit as much as they wanted and even brought my dogs sister to hang out to help him feel more comfortable. Everyone there seem to genuinely care about my dog and seem really delighted when he started to feel better and played with a ball that they gave him. I cannot recommend VEG highly enough.
Mar 02, 2025 · Michelle MaloneyWe were visiting while moving out of state and had to bring our 16 yr old cat in to be seen but ended up being something serious . They allowed my kids to spent as much time we wanted with her before she had to leave us . They were caring every step of the way and allowed us to grieve in peace with her. Thank you guys for everything ! The staff was excellent and great with my kids explaining every step and I appreciate you guys allowing my family to say goodbye properly.
Jul 04, 2025 · Tiffany SamuelsonMy cat, Tatl, had a sharp decrease in appetite beginning last Friday night. This continued for 24 hours, so it was time to seek help. Of course, most, if not all, general care vets are closed on Sundays, so we sought help here.VEG was incredible. It's all essentially one big room, with a few exam rooms added on. You get to stay with your pet the entire visit, even if they're hospitalized! You can see how many other pets are there with their owners, how many nurses and doctors there are, and just how incredibly busy the team is with trying to provide everyone with exceptional care. They simply never stop moving, between the pets, their laptops, what appears to be a pharmacy / lab area, and back again. It made the wait time make sense, and I knew based on what I saw that Tatl was not the most urgent pet there. As I was waiting for my estimate, a case came in for CPR, which was stressful to watch, but at the same time, I could see what heroic work this team was doing. A few clients moved to exam rooms at this time because they were uncomfortable watching the event unfold. A nurse came to check on us afterwards to make sure we were okay.I also saw a family go into a room with their pet. When the family left the room, they were crying, and the pet was no longer with them. I saw the mom give a big hug to the nurse that walked them out.As expected, as an emergency hospital, their fees were more expensive than I would have expected at my general vet, but they went over the estimates line by line and explained why each was recommended. When I was initially uncomfortable with the costs (even though I understood why they were recommended), the nurse and doctor helped with narrowing down what the most important diagnostics and treatments were, and what I could try to wait for an appointment with my general vet for. They also offered some financing options to help get me through this unexpected expense.A part of the visit that was really interesting was when the doctor showed what my cat's bladder and kidneys looked like in the ultrasound machine, and what her stomach and intestines looked like in the x-rays. The x-rays were sent for an expert second opinion by a radiologist. My cat ended up needing to stay with them for 24 hours for IV fluids. I stayed with her as long as I could, but I have two other pets at home with medications, so I couldn't spend the night (even though it was offered as an option). The nurse, Morgan, texted me pictures of my girl while I was away.In my opinion, one of the best things about our visit was that lab work could be adjusted afterwards. They do lab work there, but because of the concerns raised with my cat, they sent samples to an outside lab. I met with my general vet a couple of days later, and she recommended further testing. I called VEG, and they were able to add those tests to the samples that they got over the weekend, so we didn't have to go back, and my cat didn't have to get poked with another needle!Lastly, I have friends that work in the veterinary health field. After looking at some of the lower-rated reviews for this place, mostly regarding costs, lack of care by the team, and them only being in it for "commission" or for "money," not only am I shocked following my experience at this facility, but moreso I'm disappointed in the owners that blame a well-intentioned group of people in a vastly underpaid industry for not being able to provide care because they, the owners, did not budget or plan for pet care as a necessary part of their spending. Just as with yourself or with children, emergencies happen. I would never blame a nurse or doctor at the ER for "trying to suck my wallet dry" after my child broke their arm or had a high-grade fever. If anything, Child Protective Services would likely be at my doorstep if I could not get my child the help they need. Unfortunately, so many pets don't have that safeguard.Thank you, truly, to Dr. Stanford, Dr. Eboni', and to nurses Morgan, Jerri, and Cass, for your exceptional care of Tatl.
Jul 04, 2025 · Courtney GriffithI dropped by this place which recently opened and toured the facility. It was amazing to see all the amenities, family waiting room, open area waiting room an open area triage and procedure. The staff was super friendly the place is super clean and all sizes of kennels available for your pet. This is definitely an emergency room equipped to handle your fur babies needs! Thank you VEG for allowing me the visit.
Feb 18, 2025 · Majeur CarruzakesTruly Compassionate CareThank You, VEG!!!!After a heartbreaking experience at another emergency vet, we brought our sweet boy to VEG and the difference was night and day. From the moment we called, they were ready for us. When we arrived, they took us in immediately and the doctor came out to personally greet us, listen to everything we had gone through, and reassure us that our sweet boy was in good hands. They wasted no time getting to work. The amazing vet tech stayed by our side the entire time (I’m so sad we don’t remember her name but she has red curly hair & a Great Pyrenees she told us about) she was so knowledgeable and kind, bringing our boy a soft bed and fresh water, making sure he was as comfortable as possible. We were able to stay with him through it all, and that meant the world to us.They ran X-rays, an ultrasound, bloodwork just everything he needed. They explained every single step along the way with patience and clarity. We never felt rushed or dismissed. Instead, we felt seen, heard, and genuinely cared for.The facility is beautiful, open, and calm and you can tell they’ve designed it to keep pets from feeling scared or alone. What touched us most was how every staff member went above and beyond not only for our boy, but for us too. They treated him like he was their own, and they never gave up trying to find out what was wrong. After everything we had just gone through, VEG gave us something we desperately needed: hope, compassion, and real care. We are forever grateful to this team for loving our sweet boy like we do.
