Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center Introduce
For pet owners across Alabama seeking the absolute highest level of care for complex bone, joint, or eye conditions, the **Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center (VOVC)** in Hoover represents a critical regional resource. This clinic stands out not as a general practice, but as a dedicated specialty center, focusing exclusively on two critical fields of advanced veterinary medicine: **Orthopedic Surgery** and **Ophthalmology Care**. This specialization means that pets with severe injuries, genetic defects, or complicated eye diseases often receive a level of expertise and cutting-edge treatment that is simply unavailable in a primary care setting.
The practice is led by two highly qualified, board-certified specialists: Dr. David I. Dismukes (Orthopedics) and Dr. Jana Korsch-Dismukes (Ophthalmology). Their combined expertise ensures that whether your pet needs a complex **Fracture Repair** or delicate **Corneal Ulcer Therapy**, they are in the hands of recognized experts. Dr. Dismukes, in particular, has earned a stellar reputation, with clients traveling from other states for his expertise. As one grateful owner remarked after their dogs recovered from multiple complex procedures, "I fully believe he is one of the best surgeons in the Southeast, maybe farther," noting that his team "completely restored their quality of life."
The core mission of the **Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center** is to deliver personalized, individualized care without compromising the highest standards of specialty medicine. This dedication to excellence is consistently reflected in customer feedback, which praises the entire team—from the office staff and scheduling coordinator to the veterinary technicians and the doctors—for being "amazing" and going "above and beyond expectations." The facility’s commitment to providing advanced diagnostics and a wide array of surgical options, from **Minimally Invasive Surgery** to complicated **Tumor Removal**, ensures that pet owners in the greater Birmingham area have local access to world-class specialty treatment.
The **Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center** is conveniently situated in Hoover, Alabama, which serves as a central hub for the greater Birmingham metropolitan area and surrounding regions. This strategic location makes high-level referral care readily accessible to pet owners throughout central Alabama and beyond. The physical location is:
2547 John Hawkins Pkwy Suite 103, Hoover, AL 35244, USA
As a facility dedicated to the comfort of all clients and their injured or visually impaired pets, the center prioritizes accessibility. The building provides comprehensive accessibility features:
- A dedicated **Wheelchair accessible entrance** for easy access.
- **Wheelchair accessible parking lot** to minimize travel distance from the car.
- A comfortable and accessible **Wheelchair accessible restroom** for clients.
- A general **Restroom** is also available on-site.
Due to the specialized nature of the services, consultations are typically by referral from a primary care veterinarian. **Appointments recommended** and are usually required to ensure the doctors have adequate time for a thorough evaluation and discussion of surgical or medical options. The facility maintains regular business hours from Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, providing consistency for scheduled care.
The Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center focuses on two distinct areas of **Specialty Medicine**, offering the latest diagnostic and **Surgical Procedures** for both **Cats And Dogs** in orthopedics, and **All Species** in ophthalmology:
- **Orthopedic Surgery & Diagnostics (Cats and Dogs):**- Advanced Cruciate Ligament Repair: Including **Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO)** and Lateral Suture Stabilization.
- **Hip Dysplasia** Management: Including preventative Juvenile Pubic Symphyseodesis (JPS) and surgical options like Femoral Head and Neck Excision (FHNE).
- Joint Procedures: Repair for Patella Luxation, treatment for Elbow Dysplasia, and Joint Luxation Repair.

- Surgical Options: Advanced procedures for Corneal Ulcers, cataracts, and eyelid abnormalities.

- **Vision Center** support for pets with long-term eye conditions.

- **General Specialized Procedures:**- **Minimally Invasive Surgery** (Arthroscopy) for improved recovery times.
- **Laser Surgery** and specialized surgical techniques.
- **Tumor Removal** involving the musculoskeletal or ocular system.
- Select general services like **Spaying And Neutering** are typically performed by the referring DVM, though general **Medicine And Surgery** support the specialty procedures.

What makes the Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center a premier referral center for Alabama residents is its exceptional team and specialized focus:
- **Board-Certified Expertise:** The practice is co-owned and operated by two board-certified specialists: a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS-SA) for Orthopedics and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (DACVO) for Ophthalmology.
- **Restoring Athletic Quality of Life:** The surgical team, led by Dr. Dismukes, is highly renowned for its success in treating complex, performance-limiting injuries, demonstrated by dogs like 'Greyson' and 'Angler' returning to high-level athletics, running circles and fetching balls after TPLO and arthrodesis surgeries.
- **Dedicated Vision Center:** The **Ophthalmology Care** is comprehensive, seeing **All Species** (not just cats and dogs) and offering advanced diagnostics and surgical solutions for conditions like **Corneal Ulcer Therapy** and glaucoma.
- **Referral-Based Focus:** By specializing, the clinic maintains cutting-edge knowledge and equipment, offering procedures like **Minimally Invasive Surgery** (Arthroscopy) and advanced **Hip Dysplasia** treatments that are essential for **Pet Orthopedic** health. The close relationship with **Referring DVM** practices ensures seamless, cooperative patient care.
- **Unwavering Client Confidence:** The consistent, strong positive reviews, often from clients with multiple complex cases over many years, attest to the high degree of trust and successful outcomes achieved by the doctors and their dedicated support team.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I have had a lot of experience with this clinic, both from the orthopedic and ophthalmology sides, and while unfortunate for my wallet, I cannot fully express how much I appreciate Dr. Dismukes and Dr. Korsch. I feel fortunate to have this level of expertise in Bham so that I didn’t have to travel to another city or vet school with an injured pet. I have probably been to this clinic, between 5 ortho surgeries (multiple dogs with various injuries or genetic defects) and an eye autoimmune disease, no less than 20 times, considering all the appointments pre- and post-op and I have never had a bad experience. Their entire team is amazing and go above and beyond my expectations. This includes interactions with office staff, scheduling, vet techs and the doctors. Specifically for ortho, since more of my experience is with Dr. Dismukes, I fully believe he is one of the best surgeons in the Southeast, maybe farther. I consistently meet people in his waiting room who have traveled from other states to have him do their pet’s surgery. Whenever anyone would ask me who did my dogs’ surgeries, I would hear ‘he’s the best” and “you’re in good hands.” As for my dogs, Greyson is a 10-year-old Aussie mix who lives and breathes catching frisbees. He injured both hock joints trying to jump into the back of my SUV and had bilateral partial tarsal arthrodesis surgeries in December 2023. He is still catching frisbees today and can run circles around all of us. Another dog, Angler, had a genetic disorder of his CCLs and had bilateral TPLO surgeries just a few months ago. He’s already running and fetching balls and he’s a large 8 year old dog! Both dogs are every bit as athletic as they were before surgeries. Dr. Dismukes and his team completely restored their quality of life. They are the best and I cannot thank them enough! June 20 · Jill Hurley
- The Doctors and Team are AMAZING! I could not be happier with the compassion and care shown to my girls. They all go the extra mile to ensure my pups are comfortable. They are also cutting edge with treatment and get results. I’m so thankful they are nearby! Lucky us! June 20 · bhamlisat
- Dr. Dismukes and his staff are first class. I drove (4) hours to see him after my vet could not figure out why my golden retriever had been limping for more than a month. He quickly diagnosed digital flexor tendonitis in her front paw and outlined a path to recovery without surgery. I would highly recommend him to anyone experiencing orthopedic issues with their dog. - Dr. Korsch is amazing! She has been keeping our Service Dog Heroes healthy with their vision care for many, many years. Her compassion and kindness to all of our Service Dogs and Service Dogs in Training is such a pivotal part of making The Roverchase Foundation dogs to healthy and happy. Highly recommend! - I drive all the way from Atlanta to have my dogs seen by Dr Korsch. There is nobody better and I’ve seen multiple veterinary ophthalmologists. The level of care my dogs receive is beyond anything I could have hoped. One of my dogs was misdiagnosed by another ophthalmologist local to me and Dr Korsch helped us navigate to the correct diagnosis. My other dog came into rescue blind from hyper mature cataracts and his site was completely restored at Veterinary Orthopedic and Vision Center. I couldn’t give a higher recommendation than 5 stars but I would have given 10! June 20 · Brenda Catanesi
