As a specialty practice, the Veterinary Specialty Group of Glendora concentrates on a specific set of services that require advanced training and equipment. They are a go-to option for pet owners whose animals have conditions that need more than a general veterinarian can provide.
Internal Medicine: This is a core focus of the practice, dealing with the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of diseases of the internal organs. This includes conditions of the gastrointestinal system, liver, kidneys, endocrine system, and more.
Critical Care: For pets with life-threatening conditions or those requiring intensive monitoring, the clinic offers critical care services to stabilize and treat animals in serious distress.
Urgent Care and Urgent Veterinary Services: While not a 24/7 emergency hospital, they provide urgent care for conditions that need immediate attention but are not necessarily life-threatening. This fills a vital gap between a regular vet visit and a full emergency room.
Small Animal Care: Their expertise is focused on small animals, primarily dogs and cats, ensuring they have the specialized knowledge to treat these common household pets effectively.
Pet Services and Veterinary Services: The clinic offers a range of services within their specialties, including advanced diagnostics like blood work, imaging, and endoscopies, all part of a comprehensive approach to internal medicine.
The specialization in internal medicine is a key differentiator, as it allows the veterinary team to develop a deep level of expertise in diagnosing and managing complex, chronic, or rare diseases. This focused approach ensures that pet owners are getting the highest level of care for their animal’s specific condition.
Several features and highlights make the Veterinary Specialty Group of Glendora a top choice for pet owners in the region.
Specialized Expertise: The clinic is led by highly knowledgeable and experienced veterinarians who specialize in internal medicine. This level of expertise is crucial for accurately diagnosing and effectively treating complex illnesses that may have stumped other veterinarians.
Compassionate and Unhurried Care: The staff is known for their compassionate demeanor, taking the time to explain diagnoses and treatment plans to pet owners without rushing them. This personal touch creates a sense of trust and provides comfort during a stressful time.
Personalized Patient Attention: The clinic is praised for its smaller, more intimate setting compared to larger hospitals. This allows for more personalized attention, where staff members can genuinely get to know the pets and their unique needs. It is often noted that pets become "part of the family" while under their care.
Strong Communication: The veterinary team is highly communicative, keeping pet owners informed about their animal's progress and being available to answer questions. They also demonstrate empathy and provide emotional support, as shown by their heartfelt responses to clients who have lost their pets.
Holistic Approach to Care: The team not only focuses on the medical treatment but also offers guidance on practical aspects of care, such as where to find affordable medications or specialized foods, demonstrating a holistic concern for the pet's well-being and the owner's circumstances.
This focus on both medical excellence and compassionate care is what truly sets the clinic apart. They understand that treating a sick pet involves more than just medicine; it requires empathy, clear communication, and a supportive environment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dr. Yau is the most knowledgable, most compassionate internist we've ever met. The only reason we're no longer there is because we moved cross-country a few months ago, and I wish we could've brought her and her whole office with us.Having come from MASH dissatisfied with their internal medicine department as well as the overall temperament of their staff, going to a smaller office with unhurried, friendly staff was a very welcome and needed change of pace. We had two sick poms. Both had severe tracheal collapse, and one of them had advanced liver disease, and Dr. Yau was the perfect person in helping us navigate that and the health issues to follow. Our guy with liver disease, Columbo, also later developed diabetes and a gall bladder blockage and we couldn't have asked for a better, more gentle landing pad than VSG in learning how to navigate and treat these newfound illnesses. After his diabetes diagnosis, Columbo had to go in for blood sugar monitoring every other week, an all day process, and VSG became a second home for him in more ways than one. Columbo could often be seen hanging out with Alex behind the front desk or carried around by one of a few techs in a special front facing carrier. You could tell everyone there genuinely, deeply loved the guy.He passed away shortly after our move following complications from surgery to remove his gall bladder. It had been my and Dr. Yau's wish that we could have had his surgery done there, but we discovered his gall bladder inflamation less than two weeks before our move which wouldn't have provided him enough time to recover/handle the stress of driving for 4 days straight. Knowing how much they cared for him, we called to let them know and they had set aside time to talk to us, remember him, and send us a handwritten card.We still have one pom in need of internal medicine care, so when we move back to California we will surely be coming back. I strongly recommend you give them a call, especially if you, like me, have been disheartened by the bigger hospitals in the area. You'll be so happy you did.
June 18 · David SimsI can't say enough about how much Dr. Yau cares about her patients, the level of care she provides is unparalleled. She has treated two of our dogs for serious conditions and she is so very thorough and communicative. She also knows where to get foods and meds at the best price, she really empathizes with her pet patients and their parents. Highly recommended.
October 12 · Donna Van GundyMy dog is my best friend and I would move mountains to make sure he is receiving great care. My dog has cushing’s disease and chronic pancreatitis among other issues. After visiting several internist Dr. Yau is by far the most knowledgeable on his disease and next steps. She also does an amazing job with the emotional part of seeking care for your loved one. She is compassionate, attentive, patient, and above all loving. We drive over an hour to see her for our rechecks because we trust our dog’s life in her hands. Additionally, everyone on her team is sweet and attentive. Alex, who works at the receptionist desk, is great at following up when she says she will, communicates Dr Yau’s messages and is such a pleasure to speak to. Every time I speak to Alex it leaves a smile on my face due to her warm and inviting demeanor. We’ve been treated with compassion and patience by everyone on Dr Yau’s team (including the technicians) when it mattered most and we cannot express our gratitude enough for all Dr Yau and her team have done and continue to do for our boy, Barnabe.
June 10 · Elaine ChavezI had to use the emergency services of this vet and I could not be more grateful. My dog was attacked and had to have her ear amputated but Dr was able to save her ear drum even with extensive damage. Follow up appointments and care were superb. Any questions we had about how or what to do were answered. This vet group was so extremely helpful and supportive. I really can't express how thankful I am for everything they did. (I'll spare you the before photos 😉)
July 15 · Anna DunlapI truly can not say enough about this practice. Such a wonderful Doc and staff!!! They are fantastic, we love them, and they love our girl Cami!!! Thanks and love to all!!!
