Just like humans, pets require specialized dental care to prevent pain, infection, and systemic health issues that can stem from poor oral hygiene. In Leesburg, Virginia, there's a highly specialized veterinary practice dedicated exclusively to this vital aspect of pet health: Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery (ADOS). This facility is a beacon for pet owners whose animals require advanced dental care, from routine cleanings to complex oral surgeries, ensuring that our furry friends maintain healthy smiles and overall well-being.
Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery is conveniently located at 165 Fort Evans Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176, USA. This strategic location in Leesburg places it within The LifeCentre, a comprehensive specialty and emergency veterinary hospital. Being housed within such a facility offers immense benefits, providing access to cutting-edge veterinary technology and a wide range of specialists, including cardiologists and a full emergency and critical care team. This integrated environment ensures that pets receiving dental care at ADOS have access to a broader network of expertise if needed, offering unparalleled safety and convenience. The location is easily accessible for pet owners across Leesburg, Loudoun County, and indeed, the wider Mid-Atlantic region, as clients have been known to travel significant distances for their specialized services. Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery (ADOS) is devoted exclusively to the oral, surgical, and dental health care needs of domestic pets, primarily dogs and cats. Their specialization allows them to offer a profound depth of expertise and a wide array of advanced procedures that go beyond what a general veterinary practice might provide. Their services include:
- Professional Dental Cleanings: Comprehensive scaling (above and below the gumline) and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup, crucial for preventing periodontal disease.
- Full-Mouth Digital X-rays (Dental Radiography): Essential for diagnosing underlying dental issues that are not visible during a standard oral examination, such as tooth root abscesses, bone loss, and unerupted teeth. ADOS is noted for having a Cone-Beam CT Scanner, providing 3D images for superior diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Periodontal Treatments: Advanced therapies for all stages of periodontal disease, including addressing gum inflammation, bone loss, and deep pocket infections.
- Tooth Extractions: Skilled and precise extraction of damaged teeth (due to decay, trauma, or disease), including difficult and extensive extractions, with a focus on pain management and smooth recovery. As one client's "toothless kitty" story illustrates, they handle cases requiring significant extractions to ensure comfort and health.
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Expertise in complex surgical procedures, including the removal of oral tumors, repair of jaw fractures, oronasal fistulas, and correction of various oral defects.
- Restorative Dentistry: Procedures such as crown therapy and composite fillings to restore damaged teeth and preserve tooth function.
- Endodontics: Root canal therapy and pulpotomies to treat diseased or fractured teeth, often saving teeth that might otherwise need extraction.
- Orthodontics: Correction of common malocclusions (misaligned bites or teeth) to improve comfort and function.
- Treatment of Oral Diseases: Addressing conditions like stomatitis, tooth resorption, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, and oral autoimmune disorders.
- Personalized Anesthesia Protocols: Development of tailored medication protocols to minimize stress both before and after anesthesia, including pre-visit medications for anxious patients, ensuring safety and comfort during procedures.
- Post-Procedure Care and Instructions: Thorough explanations of aftercare instructions (both verbal and printed), and timely follow-up calls and medical notes/summaries to ensure a smooth recovery.
Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery consistently demonstrates several outstanding features and highlights that contribute to its strong reputation among Virginia pet owners:
- Specialized Expertise: Their singular focus on veterinary dentistry and oral surgery means they possess an unparalleled level of knowledge, experience, and advanced equipment specific to this field. This specialization is a significant advantage for pets requiring complex or advanced dental care.
- Highly Qualified Team: The practice boasts a team of diverse experts, including highly skilled veterinarians (like Dr. Matthew Raleigh and Dr. Durney, who received specific praise) and accomplished licensed veterinary technicians. They are trained in the most advanced veterinary dentistry and anesthesia practices.
- Compassionate Patient Care: Clients consistently highlight the team's positive, welcoming, thorough, and empathetic approach. They are noted for treating "fur kids like family," ensuring pets feel at ease and owners feel supported throughout the entire process, including detailed updates before, during, and after procedures.
- Cutting-Edge Technology: ADOS is committed to utilizing proven, cutting-edge technology. Their investment in a Cone-Beam CT Scanner (reportedly the first animal dental practice in VA, MD, DC, WV, and DE to install one) demonstrates their dedication to superior diagnostics and treatment planning. They also use piezoelectric surgical tools, bone membranes and grafts, and bioceramic materials.
- Clear and Consistent Communication: A key highlight is their thorough communication process. Clients receive multiple updates throughout the day of the procedure, verbal explanations, printed aftercare instructions, and timely delivery of medical notes/summaries. This meticulous communication ensures owners are fully informed.
- Collaborative Approach: ADOS emphasizes a partnership between the pet owner and the veterinary team, and also collaborates closely with referring primary care veterinarians, sharing records and follow-up recommendations to ensure comprehensive care. Their location within The LifeCentre also facilitates daily collaboration with other specialty practices.

Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery Reviews
Dr. Matthew Raleigh and the whole team provided excellent care for my cat Harper. The minute I walked through the door, Jessica greeted me with such a positive, and welcoming attitude. Dawna answered all my questions and was very thorough. I received multiple calls throughout the day keeping me updated (before, during and after the procedure). Dr. Matthew Raleigh called afterwards and explained how the procedure went, and aftercare instructions but they also give you a physical printed copy to go home with. Additionally, I received her medical notes/summary within a couple of hours. I trust them with my pets, and would recommend them for any of your pets dental needs.
May 28, 2025 · Kaitlin KreiderUpdate April 2025: the dentistry professionalism with their medical service (especially Dr. Durney!!) is still amazing, but they almost got my insurance claim declined due to a lie... I don't want to think it was a purposeful lie, but they apparently told my insurance I scheduled for a dental disease, not dental cleaning, when i initially scheduled my visit. That is not right by any means, as i did not know of the dental disease until I showed up on Dec. 4th. My insurance company denied my claim for 'pre existing condition' because this dentistry confirmed that I scheduled my cat for potential dental procedure other than cleaning. I fought the claim and the insurance company THANKFULLY accepted my appeal, and reimbursed me $3k+. But just saying... this practice almost costed me $3k+ in loss because SOMEONE told a lie...+Dr. Gurney wrote me a support letter for the appeal, and she was so empathetic with me. Amazing medical staff but someone on the admin team needs to do better...Went in with a kitty needing dental cleaning, and came out with a toothless kitty🥹.I came here upon a recommendation from both my coworker (who had full teeth extraction for her adult cat) and my vet. The staff are very professional, and i could entrust them to make the right decision for my little one. The full teeth extraction costed me +$4k but with insurance coverage, I think getting a professional care is well worth the money.
Apr 23, 2025 · Joanna KimThese people are the best! You can tell they really care about your furry family member when you walk in the door. We had to have a really complicated surgery performed on our furry friend. The staff was supportive, and explained everything in detail, answering our many questions along the way! They called us numerous times throughout the day, letting us know their progress. If you have something seriously wrong with your furry family member, I whole heartily recommend this place! Dr. Raleigh and staff are fully qualified in assisting you with any oral surgery needs. They even call the morning after to check on their patients! It can be a long drive but well worth it!
Aug 22, 2024 · Kathy VickeryI cannot thank the staff enough for everything they did for our little Pippin. From the front desk to the techs, Drs and anesthesiologist. Our little guy was in the best hands. They kept me updated throughout the whole time. He is recovering well and will now have the best life possible!
Jun 03, 2025 · Lisa KrinkeMy cat recently had some dental concerns, and after several trips back and forth to our general vet we were referred to Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery for a few tooth extractions. I was very worried about putting her through the additional stress of yet another appointment (and anesthesia) but the staff quickly put my mind at ease. Dr. Raleigh and Dr. Nichol were patient and knowledgeable, and thoroughly addressed all of my questions. Jessica was very warm and welcoming before and after the procedure. I knew my cat was going to get the best care, and she was right back to her usual self when we got home!
