What is worth choosing?
Choosing a veterinary hospital is a deeply personal decision, and for Californians, the choice can often come down to the balance between professional expertise and compassionate care. Banfield Pet Hospital in Ontario presents a complex picture, with both deeply positive and profoundly negative experiences highlighted by its clients. A truly compelling reason to choose this location is its ability to provide life-saving care in a moment of crisis. As one review powerfully attests, after being turned away from three other emergency vets, this Banfield location "took my dog in the same day and began treating her." The pet owner praised the "gentle and caring" nature of the nurses and technicians and the "phenomenal job" done by Dr. Choi and Dr. Chun, who not only provided excellent treatment but also took the time to explain preventative care and follow-up. This level of responsiveness, skill, and genuine concern is a powerful argument for choosing this hospital, especially in a region where emergency vet care can be hard to come by. The client's expression of feeling "at ease with veterinarians" again after years of negative experiences speaks volumes about the quality of care they received from this specific team.
However, it is crucial to consider the other side of the coin, as highlighted in a second, heartbreaking review. This client's experience of having their dog put to sleep was described as "the worst experience I'll never have again," citing a doctor who was "very cold and inattentive" and "practically rushing." The review details a distressing situation where the IV was allegedly placed incorrectly, causing the procedure to fail and the pet to become agitated. This account paints a picture of a lack of compassion and professional care during one of the most difficult moments a pet owner can face. The contrast between this experience and the first one is stark and highlights a potential inconsistency in the level of empathy and attention provided by different staff members.
Ultimately, the decision to choose Banfield Pet Hospital in Ontario requires a careful evaluation of these two opposing accounts. For many, the hospital's ability to provide timely, life-saving care and the professionalism of certain team members will be the deciding factor. The comprehensive services and focus on preventative wellness are also strong selling points. However, the emotional pain described in the negative review is a significant concern, especially for those who prioritize a compassionate and patient-centered approach, particularly for end-of-life care. A pet parent in California should consider these factors carefully and perhaps ask for details on how the hospital handles such delicate procedures to ensure their experience aligns with the high standard of care they expect.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I brought my dog in after become turned away from 3 local emergency vets due to short staffing. It was my first time going to banfield. They took my dog in the same day and began treating her. Rose, Kelly, Amanda, Sara, Susie were the nurses/technicians. They were gentle and caring. Dr Choi did a phenomenal job diagnosing and treating my dog. Dr. Chun also did a phenomenal job and called me and explained everything to me, preventative care, and follow up. It’s been years since I felt at ease with veterinarians, and I would highly recommend this specific location to pet parents. I will be forever grateful to the care team.
July 07 · Char THad my dog put to sleep here, and it was the worst experience I'll never have again. It was bad enough that I was letting go of my best friend, but the doctor on board was very cold and inattentive about it. Practically rushing. The first thing he said was literally just:"I'm gonna do this quick, I have a surgery to attend to." And then proceeded to put the iv in wrong, so when they put the medicine in to make him sleep (twice might I add) he didn't get it. My dog was wide awake and agitated. They had to take him back and redo it, and once they did he'd barely gotten to sleep before he knocked him off.It was all around upsetting, and I know nothing can be done about it now, but maybe think twice if you have plans to do such a procedure in the Ontario location. They have better things to do, apparently...
August 06 · Alex “Minichan”The team is great. My Dog can be unwilling at times when the Vet tried to work on him but they always have the extra patience to take care of him.
