The hospital's position within a prominent shopping center means that ample parking is typically available, making visits convenient even during peak hours. - Diagnosing and Treating Illnesses: Addressing a variety of common pet ailments, including gastrointestinal issues, skin conditions, ear infections, and minor injuries. This involves conducting necessary diagnostic tests to determine the cause of symptoms.
- Chronic Disease Management: Providing ongoing care and management for long-term health conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, and other chronic illnesses, as highlighted by a customer review mentioning care for a dog's diabetes.
- Surgical Procedures: Performing common surgical procedures, including spaying and neutering, as well as some minor soft-tissue surgeries.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh is noted for several features, some of which draw strong positive feedback, while others represent common aspects of a large corporate veterinary network.
- Compassionate and Knowledgeable Doctors: There is clear appreciation for certain veterinarians, particularly Dr. B, who is described as "amazing with my son" (referring to a pet) and "really goes above and beyond for George" in managing his diabetes. This highlights a deep commitment to patient care and the ability to manage complex medical conditions effectively.
- Sweet and Supportive Vet Techs: The veterinary technicians receive positive mentions for their friendly and caring demeanor. "The techs are also super sweet!!" indicates a positive support staff experience that complements the doctors' care.
- Focus on Wellness Plans: Banfield's model often emphasizes Optimum Wellness Plans, which are designed to make preventative care more predictable and affordable by spreading costs over monthly payments. This can be a significant benefit for pet owners seeking consistent routine care without large upfront expenses.
- Corporate Structure (Dual Perspective): While one review critically highlights the "corporate/money first operation" aspect, suggesting issues with additional fees and limited direct vet interaction, this structure also implies standardized procedures, potentially advanced equipment, and a wide network of clinics for consistent care across different locations.
- Accessibility and Convenience: Being located within Northway Mall makes the clinic highly accessible and convenient for combining veterinary visits with other daily errands.
It is important to acknowledge areas where some clients have expressed concerns. One detailed review pointed out several frustrations, including:
- Perception of "Money First" Approach: The reviewer felt the clinic prioritized corporate profitability over patient needs, citing multiple appointments and fees for ongoing issues, even for virtual visits that involved no new medical assessment.
- Limited Direct Vet Communication: A concern was raised about having "only been able to talk to the vet once" despite significant costs, suggesting that primary communication might often be through vet techs or administrative staff, leading to a feeling of disconnect.
- Rude Staff Member: Specific feedback highlighted a "primary vet tech, Emily," as "incredibly rude" and prone to "interject or talk over you instead of listening to your concerns." While this might be an isolated incident with one individual, it indicates a potential area for customer service improvement.
- Difficulty with Urgent Care/Records Transfer: The reviewer's experience of being repeatedly told to call another facility for an urgent issue, even when their records were with Banfield, suggests challenges in seamless urgent care coordination or inter-clinic communication.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
While the staff (in general) are very kind and knowledgeable, I can't recommend their services. It is a very clearly corporate/money first operation. We took our dog in for a general wellness exam 2 months ago, and talked to the doctor about some GI issues and separation anxiety. We had to have 2 appointments and 3 rounds of medication to treat the GI ($250 later) and just found out 2 hours before our virtual visit to talk to the vet about adjusting meds for separation anxiety that it would be ANOTHER $73 exam fee. Note that we have only been able to talk to the vet once, which is insane for what we've paid. The primary vet tech, Emily, is also incredibly rude and prefers to interject or talk over you instead of listening to your concerns.
May 01, 2025 · Samantha NickosonDr B is amazing with my son. I’m so grateful to have found a vet to deal with my baby’s diabetes - she really goes above and beyond for George. The techs are also super sweet!!
Aug 17, 2024 · CarolineDr Hanna Pyun was extremely friendly and generous for taking the time to help me get a food prescription card, so I could purchase some special food for my dog. I arrived after the vet closed, but she still took the time to help me and my puppy out and she did it with a smile and a great attitude the whole time. Thank you Dr Hanna Pyun for your kindness and this world would be a much better place if there were more people like you in it.
Apr 11, 2024 · Thomas BostI am so grateful for the care my golden retriever Sue has received from the staff at Banfield! I have been taking him here since he was 8 weeks old. He was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder (ITP) in June so we have been coming in every 1-2 weeks to have his platelet levels checked. Everyone here, from the front desk staff, to the techs, to the vets (especially Dr. Cohen) is so nice and understanding…especially if we are running a few mins late or accidentally forget an appointment. Thank you for all you do!
Dec 27, 2021 · Lindsay KyperThe entire staff and Vet were amazing. My dogs can be a hand full and these peeps welcomed them and cared for them with understanding and grace.
