For pet owners across Pennsylvania, finding the right veterinary care is crucial, but for those with exotic companion mammals like rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and rats, the search can be even more challenging. These unique pets require specialized knowledge and experience that not every general veterinary practice can offer. Fortunately, in the Pittsburgh area, local users have access to a truly exceptional resource: Dr. Robert A. Wagner, VMD, Dipl. ABVP – ECM. His extensive expertise, coupled with a remarkably compassionate approach, makes him a highly sought-after veterinarian for non-traditional pets. This article will delve into what makes Dr. Wagner and his team a preferred choice for exotic pet owners in our community.
Dr. Wagner holds a significant distinction: Dipl. ABVP – ECM. This credential means he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, specializing in Exotic Companion Mammals. This certification signifies a veterinarian who has undergone rigorous additional training and examination, demonstrating expertise in the broad range of clinical subjects relevant to their species specialty and whole patient, life-long care for animals such as ferrets, rabbits, rodents, and guinea pigs. It's a testament to his deep commitment and advanced knowledge in caring for these specific types of pets, setting him apart in the field of veterinary medicine.
Choosing a veterinarian for your exotic pet is about more than just convenience; it's about finding someone who genuinely understands their unique physiology, common ailments, and specific needs. Dr. Wagner's reputation, built on years of dedicated service and glowing testimonials, indicates he is precisely that kind of professional, offering peace of mind to many local pet parents.
---Dr. Robert A. Wagner, VMD, Dipl. ABVP – ECM operates primarily from 2255 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, USA. It's important for local users to note that Dr. Wagner often utilizes space at North Boros Veterinary Hospital for his appointments, typically on specific days like Mondays and Tuesdays. However, direct appointments should be made with Dr. Wagner's contact information, not by calling North Boros Veterinary Hospital directly, as he rents space there and does not work for them in a general capacity. This arrangement allows him to offer specialized services efficiently to a broader client base.
The location on Babcock Boulevard in Pittsburgh places his practice within easy reach for many residents across the city and surrounding areas. This accessibility is a significant advantage for owners of exotic pets, who might otherwise have to travel considerable distances to find a veterinarian with comparable specialization. My bunnies have been seeing Dr. Wagner since 2014, and he has been an excellent provider of care. His experience shows with each and every animal he cares for. I went to another Vet when Dr. Wagner was unavailable, and the other Vet misdiagnosed my rabbit and put her on unecessary medication. Dr. Wagner saw her for her follow up and said that she was perfectly fine, and she was!I wish he was in the office full time, because I trust him 100% and I always leave feeling confident with the information he has given me. He also has very reasonable pricing, and doesn't milk you for tons of testing unlike other facilities out there. He explains what he thinks is the best plan of action, and I am always confident in his plan during our visit. His Assistant, Tracy, is someone I cannot say enough nice things about. She has been an absolute god sent and I wouldn't be a confident rabbit owner without her help. She is empathetic and answers your emails right away, is there in case of emergency, and sends you home with any medication you need, as well as dosing, instructions, and will happily help if your bunny is like mine, and needs extra hands for syringe feeding or nail trims. I am very lucky to live in Pittsburgh so that my bunnies can receive the best care from Dr. Wagner and his staff!
Oct 06, 2018 · Gretchen DMy experience with Dr. Wagner and Tracy was amazing! They pick up your animal from the car, let you fill out a sheet asking general questions about your pet and tell you when they will be done with diagnosing and/or surgery. They are relatively quick but they are both very busy. When I went to pick up my rats, she gave me instructions on how to care for them for the next couple of weeks along with medicine. Not to mention, they are LOW COST! I will definitely be back for my animals in the future.
Apr 20, 2021 · Paige AdamsDr. Wagner and Tracy are the BEST. I've been taking my bunnies to Dr. Wagner since 2009. I know that, no matter what, they are in good hands, with the most knowledgeable vet I've ever known. I'd drive hours for him to care for my buns, if I had to. You won't find better than him and Tracy.
May 07, 2024 · Beth Price-WilliamsDr. Wagner is hands down the best ferret veterinarian in the region. He has 35+ years experience with exotic animals. We have been taking our ferrets here for years and he never ceases to amaze us with his deep and vast knowledge of ferret conditions and treatments. Tracy, his assistant?, is always friendly and knowledgable too. They send emails or calls to follow up and see how they are doing. Very fair rates. Highly recommend for ferret healthcare needs.
Sep 16, 2018 · J CDaughter took her rats there for a mass and spay. Dr. Wagner and assistant were wonderful. Surgeries went well, gave antibiotics and instructions. Cost was the best in comparison to other vets. Will continue using Dr. Wagner!
