Our pets are integral members of our families, and their health, comfort, and well-being are always at the forefront of our concerns. This article aims to offer a comprehensive guide to understanding what to look for in veterinary care, drawing on various experiences to help New York pet owners make informed choices. The goal is to find a practice that not only offers expert medical treatment but also fosters an environment of compassion, clear communication, and unwavering dedication to animal welfare.
The journey of pet ownership is incredibly rewarding, but it comes with the significant responsibility of ensuring consistent, high-quality medical attention throughout an animal's life. This includes everything from routine preventative care and vaccinations to addressing unexpected illnesses, injuries, or complex chronic conditions. A truly exceptional veterinary practice should serve as a genuine partner in this journey, offering not just profound medical expertise but also empathetic support, transparent pricing, and open communication channels. In a densely populated and diverse area like Long Island, the range of veterinary services and individual approaches can vary significantly, making it vital for pet owners to understand what constitutes exemplary care and what questions to ask to ensure their pet's needs are met with the highest standards of professional and ethical consideration.
When evaluating veterinary care options, it is paramount to prioritize practices that demonstrate meticulous diagnostic processes, prioritize transparent and empathetic communication with owners, and show an unequivocal commitment to the pet's well-being above all else. Pet owners rightfully expect reassurance that their beloved animals are in capable, caring hands, and that all medical decisions are made with the pet’s best interests, comfort, and recovery as the primary focus, alongside a sensible and honest approach to associated costs. The experience of seeking veterinary care should be one that instills confidence and trust, allowing owners to feel fully informed, respected, and supported throughout their pet's entire health journey. Understanding the value of seeking second opinions and the right to transfer care if concerns arise are also crucial aspects of advocating effectively for your pet's health and happiness. A truly dedicated veterinary team prioritizes the pet's health and the owner's peace of mind, fostering a partnership built on mutual respect and genuine care.

Years ago my 11 y/o maltipoo had a small cist behind his ear that exploded. We made an appointment to have it removed. Funny part was that AFTER my senior dog was already under anesthesia the vet calls to say the cist has fully exploded, there's nothing left to remove. You'd think the vet would have noticed it was gone before putting him under but no. No one even looked at my dog.Fast forward a few years to this month. He has a small skin tag in his paw pad that has been irritating him to the point where he has an infection and his paw has to be soaked in sailing. We were fine to do this easy treatment at home. But the vet calls and says they will soak his paw for free so my father brings him in and leaves him there for hours and when it's time to pick him up they tried charging my father $160!!After saying it was freem after calling us to come in. Just to soak a foot in salt water for 15 minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. Do not waste your time or $ with this vet!
Nov 22, 2022 · Nicole CairoI had an appointment for my 80lb dog. We drove up in the pouring rain. It was about 40-50 degrees. It was windy. We reached the front of the vets door. There were 2 people and a staff member doing something at the desk. We ran up to the door and pulled on it. It was locked. Everyone in the vet looked at us and turned around and ignored us. I rang the door bell. Everyone turned and looked at us freezing with this giant dog crying with her infected ears which is what the appointment was for. I was baffled beyond belief as to why we were being ignored by 3 cruel people. I took my key fob and tapped on the door gently. Again-all 3 rotten people smirked and talked amongst themselves while we were wet and cold AND EXTREMELY SAD AND EMBARRASSED LIKE WE WERE NOT WELCOME. I don’t care if there was an earthquake going on, treatment and behavior like that does not come from a caring veterinarian’s office. We love our pets. You are not some supreme beings. You are supposed to be dedicated to the health and well being of pets Entrusted to your care.I’ve lived in Selden for 22 years.I will never speak kindly of this vet or the staff member that was there 03/12/2022 at 1010am.
