On January 12, 2024, I took my dog to Craig Road Animal Hospital for a dental evaluation with Dr. Meisha Mychajlonka. I was given two estimates—one with unnecessary vaccines I declined, and another without. I took the consent forms home, filled them out, and emailed them back on January 15. I explicitly marked "Do Not Approve" for extractions. I emailed the forms to Craig Road Animal Hospital, they confirmed receipt and added them to my dog's file. When I arrived on the 18th, I expected a quick drop-off, as my paperwork was already submitted. Instead, I waited past my appointment time and had to sign new consent forms. Dr. Meisha Mychajlonka marked "Conditional Approval" for me after I said I wanted a call before any procedure. I made it crystal clear that I wanted a call before any extractions. At 10 AM, I received a voicemail stating 35 teeth would be extracted. I assumed it was a transcription error and immediately called back—only to be placed on hold for 17 minutes. When I finally spoke to staff, I explicitly declined the extractions. They acknowledged my decision. Yet, despite this, Craig Road Animal Hospital went ahead and extracted 35 of my dog’s teeth WITHOUT MY CONSENT.At pickup, I was told the procedure aligned with the "low end" of the estimate, and staff brushed off the miscommunication. The owner and family member of Meisha, Dr. Kurt Mychajlonka, stated that if a pet owner doesn’t respond on the first attempt, the operating veterinarian should stop the procedure—yet this wasn’t followed. So why did they go ahead and extract my dog’s teeth against my wishes? To make matters worse, my dog was also given a Rabies vaccine I never approved, and days later, he developed Kennel Cough from their facility. This clinic has zero regard for consent or ethics. My dog’s life—and mine—has been permanently altered. Instead of a simple cleaning, he now faces a lifetime of dietary restrictions, extra care, and suffering from the damages they caused.I filed a formal complaint with the Veterinary Board against Dr. Meisha Mychajlonka, only to have it dismissed due to “lack of evidence.” Lack of evidence? I have emails, consent forms, and phone records proving I declined extractions. Yet, somehow, that wasn’t enough. It’s infuriating that a vet can completely ignore a pet owner’s consent, permanently alter an animal’s life, and walk away without consequences.Craig Road Animal Hospital disregarded my wishes, ignored consent, and put my dog through unnecessary trauma. If you love your pet, stay far, far away from this place. - Rio Garcia

  • Experienced and Dedicated Staff (as per some reviews): Some reviewers have praised the doctors and staff as "incredible" and "compassionate," highlighting a positive experience, particularly in difficult situations like end-of-life care. One client expressed immense gratitude for the "amazing kindness and compassion" shown during their dog's euthanasia.

However, it is crucial to address significant concerns raised in other customer reviews:

  • Severe Consent and Communication Issues: A detailed review describes a highly concerning incident where 35 teeth were extracted from a dog, and a rabies vaccine was administered, explicitly against the owner's documented wishes and verbal instructions. This highlights a critical breakdown in communication, consent protocols, and adherence to expressed client preferences, despite claims of written and verbal refusals.
  • Lack of Accountability: The client's formal complaint to the Veterinary Board being dismissed due to "lack of evidence," despite having emails, consent forms, and phone records, raises serious questions about accountability and oversight within the system.
  • Post-Procedure Complications: The dog developing Kennel Cough days after the visit further compounds the negative experience, suggesting potential issues with facility hygiene or infection control.
  • Impact on Pet's Quality of Life: The client's assertion that their dog's life has been "permanently altered" with "lifetime of dietary restrictions, extra care, and suffering" due to an unauthorized procedure is a grave concern.

These conflicting accounts suggest that while the hospital aims for high standards, there may be inconsistencies in their application, particularly regarding client communication and adherence to consent.

For residents of Las Vegas and the surrounding Nevada region, Craig Road Animal Hospital at 5051 W Craig Rd presents a veterinary care option that merits careful and thorough consideration. On one hand, the hospital offers a comprehensive array of veterinary services, including advanced diagnostics, various surgical procedures, 24-hour hospitalization (with external emergency partnership after 8 PM), and convenient online tools for scheduling and record access. Its AAHA accreditation signifies a commitment to high medical standards, and some clients have experienced profound kindness and compassion, especially during difficult end-of-life decisions, highlighting a genuinely caring side of the staff. The convenient North West Las Vegas location and extended hours are also significant practical benefits for local pet owners.

However, it is critically important for locals to be fully aware of the serious concerns raised in recent detailed reviews, particularly regarding patient consent and communication. The account of a dog undergoing multiple tooth extractions and receiving an unauthorized vaccine despite explicit refusals, backed by documented evidence, points to a potentially alarming breakdown in ethical practice and client trust. Such incidents, if reflective of broader systemic issues, could lead to severe long-term consequences for pets and profound distress for their owners. While one experience does not define an entire practice, these claims are significant enough to warrant extreme caution.

Ultimately, the suitability of Craig Road Animal Hospital for locals depends heavily on their comfort level with these conflicting accounts. While the facility offers a wide range of services and seems to excel in some areas, the issues of consent and accountability are paramount in veterinary care. Pet owners in Nevada who prioritize unwavering adherence to their wishes and transparent, meticulous communication should conduct very thorough due diligence, including direct, detailed discussions with the clinic about their consent protocols, before committing to care at this facility.
