Desert Pines Equine Center Introduce
For horse owners throughout Las Vegas, Nevada, and the wider Southern Nevada region, the health and well-being of their equine companions are paramount. Horses, with their unique physiology and often demanding lifestyles, require specialized veterinary care that goes far beyond what a typical small animal clinic can provide. This is where Desert Pines Equine Center truly shines, standing as the premier dedicated equine medical and surgical facility in the Las Vegas Valley. Established in 1998, DPEC has built a formidable reputation for offering high-quality, progressive medicine and compassionate care specifically tailored to horses.
Desert Pines Equine Center is not just a veterinary clinic; it's a comprehensive hospital equipped to handle the full spectrum of equine health needs, from routine preventive care to complex surgical procedures and 24/7 emergencies. With a team of experienced veterinarians, some with over 100 years of combined experience, and state-of-the-art equipment, they are committed to ensuring that every horse receives the best possible treatment. For Nevada horse owners who view their equines as cherished athletes, companions, or working partners, DPEC provides the specialized expertise and dedicated facilities necessary to keep them healthy and performing at their best.
Desert Pines Equine Center is strategically located at 5000 N Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89130, USA. This location in the northern part of Las Vegas makes it easily accessible for horse owners throughout the metropolitan area, as well as those traveling from more rural parts of Nevada. Its placement on a major boulevard ensures straightforward navigation, even for those transporting horses, which is a critical consideration for equine veterinary visits.
As a full-service equine hospital, Desert Pines Equine Center is designed to accommodate horse trailers and provides ample space for patient intake. Beyond their primary facility, DPEC also offers routine scheduled appointments to underserved rural areas, including Logandale, Pahrump, and Sandy Valley, following a specific schedule. While emergency services for these rural areas require transport to the clinic, the provision of routine ambulatory services demonstrates their commitment to accessibility for the wider Nevada horse community.
Desert Pines Equine Center offers an extensive and highly specialized range of veterinary services, encompassing virtually every aspect of equine health, from routine preventative care to advanced surgical interventions and critical care.
- Preventive Care: This foundational service includes routine vaccinations (tailored to the horse's lifestyle and local disease prevalence), comprehensive dental procedures (such as floating), regular deworming, and nutritional evaluations. They strongly encourage semi-annual wellness exams to proactively manage health. For horses traveling, they also provide necessary Coggins tests and health certificates.
- Emergency & Critical Care: DPEC operates as a full-service, 24/7/365 emergency hospital, ready to address acute and critical equine needs. This includes immediate care for colic, injuries, acute lameness, and other urgent conditions. They also cover many equine emergencies that occur at local shows and events. They provide 24-hour intensive care and have a dedicated quarantine area for infectious disease patients.
- Sports Medicine & Lameness: Specializing in the "Equine Athlete," this involves advanced diagnostics and treatment for lameness issues, including comprehensive lameness exams, joint injections, regenerative therapies (such as PRP and stem cell therapy), and coordination with farriers for corrective shoeing. Dr. Schur is noted for her focus on the total body health approach to performance horses.
- Internal Medicine: From neonatal foals to geriatric patients, they provide high-quality diagnostics and treatment for a wide variety of internal maladies, including respiratory issues, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological conditions, and metabolic diseases.
- Surgery: With surgery specialists on staff, they perform both elective (e.g., castrations, arthroscopies) and emergency surgeries (e.g., colic surgery, fracture repair, laceration repair). They are equipped for complex procedures including arthroscopy and laparoscopy.
- Reproduction: Comprehensive reproductive services for both mares and stallions, including breeding soundness exams, breeding with fresh, cooled, or frozen semen, embryo transfer, pregnancy evaluation, pre and post-foaling exams, and foaling out services. They also offer semen collection and evaluation.
- Diagnostics: Utilizing advanced tools such as in-house laboratory testing (routine and advanced bloodwork, cultures with antibiotic sensitivity, histopathology), digital radiography, digital ultrasound, EKG, and video endoscopy and gastroscopy. Referrals are available for advanced imaging like MRI and nuclear scintigraphy.
- Additional Services: A broad array of supplementary services, including chiropractic care, microchipping, biosecurity evaluations, and herd health consultations. They also work closely with a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. William Weinstein, for eye cases.

One of our rescued mustangs developed a nasty case of basturd strangles which settled in a very difficult location. Dr Glassbourgh is extremely knowledgeable, and her kindness, professionalism and connection with horses were so evident. Our Moonshine trusted her and was an outstanding patient. I can't thank DPE staff enough. Extremely helpful from taking calls, messages, updates, follow-up needs, and home bound care! The facility has all the state-of-art equipment, talented staff, and impeccable cleanliness!! Thank you so much to all, but especially Dr. Glassbourgh who immediately calmed a nervous mom, both Moonshine and myself!!
