For pet parents across the beautiful state of Virginia, the health and well-being of their animal companions are always a top priority. This is where Dr. Peter G. Fisher, DVM, stands out as an exceptional resource for the Virginia community. Located in Virginia Beach, Dr. Fisher has cultivated a remarkable reputation as a leading expert in exotic animal medicine, drawing clients not just from the immediate area but from across the state and beyond.
Dr. Fisher’s practice is a testament to dedicated and compassionate care for a diverse range of species. He understands that exotic pets have unique physiological needs and often require a distinct approach to diagnosis and treatment compared to more traditional companions. His deep knowledge and specialized experience ensure that whether you have a beloved bunny, a cherished turtle, or another less common pet, they will receive the highest standard of veterinary attention. The consistent praise from clients highlights not only his professional acumen but also his caring and thoughtful demeanor, making visits a reassuring experience for both pets and their owners.
Dr. Peter G. Fisher, DVM, is conveniently located at 5201 Virginia Beach Blvd # A, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, USA. This prime address places his practice in a highly accessible area of Virginia Beach, making it a feasible destination for exotic pet owners from across the Hampton Roads region and even further afield in Virginia. Virginia Beach Boulevard is a major thoroughfare, ensuring straightforward navigation by car, and the clinic's location within a suite implies easy parking availability, which is a significant convenience, especially when transporting unique or possibly anxious pets.
The accessibility of Dr. Fisher's practice extends beyond just physical location. For many exotic pet owners in Virginia, finding a veterinarian with the specialized knowledge and equipment to properly care for their animals can require extensive travel. Exotic Pet Wellness Exams: Specialized comprehensive check-ups tailored to the unique physiological needs of various exotic species, including rabbits, turtles, other reptiles (lizards, snakes), birds, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and other small mammals. These exams focus on species-specific health concerns, nutrition, and husbandry.
Diagnostic Services for Exotic Animals: Utilizing appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques relevant to exotic pets, which may include specialized blood tests, fecal analysis for unique parasites, radiography (X-rays), and potentially other imaging modalities designed for their smaller or unique anatomies. This is crucial for accurately diagnosing illnesses in non-traditional pets.
Surgical Procedures for Exotic Animals: Performing necessary surgical interventions that are often more delicate and specialized for exotic species due to their size and unique internal structures. This can range from soft tissue surgeries to addressing specific conditions common in certain exotic breeds.
Nutritional Counseling for Exotic Pets: Providing expert guidance on species-appropriate diets and feeding regimens, which is critical for the health of exotic animals as improper nutrition is a common cause of illness. This includes advice for specific dietary needs for turtles, rabbits, birds, and more.
Husbandry and Environmental Consulting: Offering advice on the optimal living conditions, caging, temperature, humidity, and enrichment necessary for the health and well-being of various exotic species, directly addressing common issues that can lead to illness.
Parasite Prevention and Treatment: Addressing internal and external parasites specific to exotic pets, which can vary significantly from those found in dogs and cats, requiring specialized knowledge for diagnosis and treatment.

Emergency Care for Exotic Pets: While specialized, Dr. Fisher's practice is equipped to handle urgent medical needs for exotic pets during operational hours, providing critical attention when unexpected health issues arise.
Exceptional Specialization in Exotic Animal Medicine: This is the absolute core highlight of Dr. Peter G. Fisher's practice. He is consistently recognized as one of the "best at what he does" for exotic pets, particularly noted for his expertise with rabbits and turtles. This specialized focus is invaluable, as general veterinarians often lack the specific knowledge and training required for these unique species.
High Praise from Distant Clients: The fact that clients are willing to "drive about 2 hours each time" to bring their bunnies to him underscores his exceptional reputation and the trust he has garnered. This willingness to travel signifies that his expertise is genuinely hard to find and highly valued by exotic pet owners across Virginia.
Compassionate and Thoughtful Approach: Testimonials highlight Dr. Fisher's caring and thoughtful demeanor in his treatment of pets. In one instance, he "walked us on how to properly care for our turtle and nurse her back to health" after serious eye injuries, demonstrating his commitment to patient education and comprehensive support for pet owners.
Successful Patient Outcomes: The review about saving a turtle with severe eye injuries, successfully nursed back to health, showcases the tangible positive results of his expert care and guidance. This kind of success story builds immense confidence in his abilities.

Fisher Peter G DVM Reviews
I drive about 2 hours each time I bring my bunnies to see Dr. Fisher. He is one of the best at what he does, and he's also a pretty cool guy. If you have a bunny, it's worth the drive to see him and his staff. If you live in Virginia Beach, you're the luckiest. He's the best.

Oct 04, 2019 · Plumby ManHe shouldn't sit there and convince people who are not sure about spaying their French bull dog who was a puppy! Today my neighbor went to see this vet at a Peta mobile clinic. She stated to him that she wasn't sure. He told her it would be ok and her little female French bulldog died on his table as he proceeded with the spay. 2,600.00 she spent on getting that puppy. She searched for months trying to get that breed of a puppy. Pet shops wanted 5 to 6 grand for theirs. She finally found someone who had one for half the price. I watched her walk around with the biggest smile on her face holding her puppy. Everywhere she went that puppy went. Today I watched her crying holding her dead puppy in her arms. She was extremely broken up about it. Who knows what happened to her on this doctors table. All we know is she died on his table after he convinced her it would be ok. He didn't charge her for her other dog they fixed first. Atleast that was the fair thing to do.
