Being in the vet field for over 10+ years, I had high hopes for the team at hope springs however, a year later, I’m still disappointed with the ear crop services I paid for.I brought my Giant Schnauzer pup in to have his ears cropped to potentially show him, even sent in reference photos twice via email and showed them again at drop off. Dr Dailey did the surgery and on pick up day, I asked to see his ears before they posted them and immediately knew his ears weren’t cut right. One was longer, cut different, and when I mentioned this, the practice manager (brown hair, rounder figure, about 5’5/6) immediately came out her office and in a condescending tone stated “it’s fine, just give it time to allow swelling to go down. All that will go down and smooth out” Again, I mentioned to her I worked in veterinary surgery and have seen plenty of ear crops done and his ears weren’t done right. The reason for going to this practice was because the doc I worked under was aging and no longer able to do surgery. After the three initial postings, I continued driving from NN to VA Beach twice a week for about ~2 months, paying for each posting to show good faith that again, his ears were not done properly. I had follow up visits to re measure the ears and on recording, it was stated that one ear measured 4 and the other ~4.25. Doc then realized what he said and went to “remeasure” the ear, and stated “oh they’re both 4. We don’t really make mistakes with these things” as he shoved the measuring stick into my pups ears. He also recommended that I could “shape” the ear with haircuts. After going back and forth for months, they sent me an estimate to try and salvage the ear by cutting into and in layman’s terms, folding/pinching it at the base to make the ear stand. That would have cost me another $5-700. I asked them why would I be charged again after paying for the surgery+ extra postings after the initial 3 when the ear is clearly not cut properly. Not even including the gas it took to drive 1hr during rush hour each way.I even took it an extra step to make sure I wasn’t being “crazy” and asked my pups dog trainer (registered with AKC, Merrimac Dog Training Club), my old vet, and two groomers (one mobile and one in store), and they were all in agreement that the ear wasn’t done properly and one mentioned that the doc is aging and that could have been part of the issue. The amount of scar tissue that formed on the ear, that I was told “would smooth out” seems to also play a part in this situation as well. Now, as my pup turns a year old in a few days (April 27th) and my consistent postings, that doc himself even complimented on as there was no irritation/hair fall out during the follow up visits, the ear still flops over. I had hoped for a good experience with them, however I’m just left disappointed. I was hoping they’d make it right by fixing the ear but it seems every time I reached out, I was spending more and more without getting any results.Proceed with caution.I included photos from the day we last visited and photos after getting groomed by the mobile groomer. Mobile groomer cut his ear hair down to see if that would help it stand, but as you can see, it did not help at all.#earcrop - Tatyana Ho

The features and highlights of Hope Springs Veterinary at Sajo Farm are a mix of both praised and critiqued aspects, providing a holistic view of the practice. One of the most frequently mentioned highlights is the professionalism and down-to-earth nature of the staff. Multiple reviews describe the people as "professional yet down to earth" and "first-class people," noting that they listen to concerns and treat clients "like talking to your neighbor." This friendly and approachable atmosphere is a significant draw for many local pet owners, who appreciate feeling comfortable and heard. Another key highlight is the efficiency of the service. A customer who had trouble getting an appointment elsewhere was able to see a veterinarian within two days at Hope Springs, highlighting their ability to handle high demand and urgent cases. The facility itself is also a strong point, with customers describing the inside as "big and super clean," with spacious rooms. This creates a more pleasant environment for both pets and their owners. The clinic's commitment to not "over sell you on anything" is another feature that builds trust, as it demonstrates an ethical approach to business. However, it is also important to consider the critical feedback to get a full picture. One detailed review raised serious concerns about a specific surgical procedure, an ear crop, performed by Dr. Dailey. The customer, who has a background in veterinary surgery, stated that the procedure was done incorrectly, with one ear being a different length and shape. This review highlights issues with communication, with the practice manager allegedly dismissing the concerns, and a lack of accountability, as the clinic reportedly tried to charge for a corrective procedure. This specific instance, while not representative of all services, does raise questions about post-operative care and the handling of customer complaints, particularly for specialized cosmetic procedures. It also points to the importance of transparent and honest communication, a theme that is present in both positive and negative feedback. The contrast between these experiences underscores that while the general, day-to-day service is highly regarded, specialized and potentially controversial procedures may have more varied outcomes. The positive reviews praise the staff and efficiency, while the negative review provides a cautionary tale about a specific procedure and customer service issue. This balance of feedback is important for any local user to consider when making a decision about their pet's care.
