Pet Dentistry Introduce
For pet parents across South Carolina, understanding the crucial role of dental health in our beloved companions' overall well-being is more important than ever. Just like humans, pets can suffer from a range of oral health issues, from painful periodontal disease to fractured teeth, which can significantly impact their quality of life. In Greenville, SC, Pet Dentistry aims to provide specialized focus on this vital aspect of veterinary care. This article will delve into the services offered by Pet Dentistry, examining what makes them a distinct option for local pet owners seeking dedicated dental expertise for their furry family members.
Pet Dentistry is located at 520 Haywood Rd, Greenville, SC 29607, USA. Haywood Road is a major and highly trafficked commercial corridor in Greenville, making this location generally accessible for residents throughout the city and surrounding areas, including Mauldin, Simpsonville, and Taylors. The presence of numerous businesses along Haywood Road means that Pet Dentistry is situated within a familiar and often frequented area. However, as noted in one customer review, being on a busy road like Haywood Road, especially during "rush hour traffic," can present unique challenges, particularly concerning pet safety outside the immediate clinic environment. While the location offers convenience in terms of being central, the external environment underscores the importance of stringent safety protocols when pets are outside the building. This accessibility is a double-edged sword, offering ease of finding the clinic but demanding vigilance regarding external surroundings.
Pet Dentistry appears to specialize in advanced dental procedures, going beyond routine cleanings to address more complex oral health issues and their systemic implications. While the provided information is from customer reviews, it strongly suggests a practice focused on comprehensive veterinary dental care.
Services Offered (based on customer experiences):
- Comprehensive Dental Work: This includes cleanings, likely scaling and polishing, and potentially advanced procedures such as fillings or extractions for diseased or damaged teeth.
- Anesthesia Management: A critical component of veterinary dentistry, ensuring the pet's comfort and safety during procedures. Their ability to keep a 14-year-old dog alive "through the anesthesia" suggests a focus on careful anesthetic protocols, especially for senior or high-risk patients.
- Systemic Health Assessment in Conjunction with Dental Work: The practice, particularly Dr. Creel, identified a "heart condition that my vet had never mentioned" during pre-dental assessments. This indicates a holistic approach where dental health is considered in the context of the pet's overall systemic health.
- Diagnosis of Underlying Conditions: Beyond just teeth, the clinic seems to perform thorough pre-operative evaluations that can uncover other medical issues critical for safe and effective dental treatment.
It is important to acknowledge that the primary information available is from customer reviews. Standard veterinary dental services typically include:
- Oral Examinations (often under anesthesia)
- Dental X-rays (full-mouth radiographs are considered standard of care)
- Professional Teeth Cleaning (scaling above and below the gumline, polishing)
- Tooth Extractions (simple and surgical)
- Periodontal Disease Treatment (addressing gum disease, bone loss)
- Root Canal Therapy and other Endodontic Procedures (to save fractured teeth)
- Jaw Fracture Repair and Oral Mass Removal (oral surgery)
- Orthodontics (correction of malocclusions)
Given the specific positive review mentioning successful dental work and the identification of a heart condition, it's reasonable to infer that Pet Dentistry likely offers many of these advanced services, especially those requiring thorough pre-anesthetic screening.
The provided customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences at Pet Dentistry, highlighting both perceived strengths and significant concerns.
Features / Highlights (as perceived by customers):
- Specialized Dental Expertise: One customer's experience suggests a high level of skill in veterinary dentistry, specifically mentioning Dr. Creel's successful dental work and ability to manage an elderly dog through anesthesia.
- Holistic Pre-Procedure Assessment: The identification of an unmentioned heart condition by Dr. Creel indicates a thorough pre-anesthetic workup that looks beyond just the teeth, considering the pet's overall systemic health. This is a crucial feature, especially for older pets.
- Potential Cost-Effectiveness for Specialized Procedures: One review noted the cost of dental work was "double what Dr. Creel did it for" at another vet, suggesting competitive or more affordable pricing for certain specialized dental services.
- Focus on Anesthesia Safety: The successful anesthesia of a 14-year-old dog, with the client expressing gratitude for keeping her alive, points to a strong emphasis on anesthetic protocols and monitoring for high-risk patients.
However, a deeply concerning negative review reveals significant issues regarding safety protocols and customer service:
- Lack of Secure Outdoor Area: The incident where a dog "escaped" onto "Haywood Road during rush hour traffic" due to being taken "OUTSIDE to the PARKING LOT (which is not fenced in at all) in order to 'get a urine sample'" is a critical safety failure. This raises serious questions about the clinic's standard operating procedures for handling pets outdoors.
- Insufficient Security Measures: The dog's escape with "leash and collar still attached" suggests inadequate restraint or supervision by the vet tech.
- Unapologetic and Uncaring Response: The customer described the staff as "un apologetic and acted as if his collar should have been tighter," and that a subsequent call to speak with the vet resulted in speaking with "another tech who couldn't have cared less." This indicates a severe lapse in customer service, empathy, and accountability following a traumatic incident.
- Lack of Communication Regarding Procedures: The client was unaware the dog would be taken for a walk outside, especially in an unfenced area, leading to unpreparedness regarding the type of restraint (harness vs. collar).
These contrasting reviews highlight that while the clinic may possess specialized dental expertise, there are serious concerns about patient handling protocols and customer service responsiveness, particularly in stressful situations.

For pet owners in Greenville, SC, seeking specialized dental care for their animal companions, Pet Dentistry presents a unique option. The clinic, particularly under the expertise of Dr. Creel, appears capable of delivering advanced dental procedures, including comprehensive work on senior pets, while also potentially identifying underlying health conditions that general vets might miss. This specialized focus on oral health, coupled with a reported ability to manage anesthesia for older pets and potentially offer competitive pricing, could make it an attractive choice for complex dental needs. However, prospective clients, especially those living in South Carolina who prioritize both exceptional medical care and robust safety protocols, must weigh these benefits against serious concerns raised in customer feedback regarding patient handling outside the clinic and the quality of customer service during critical incidents. For those whose primary concern is specialized dental intervention and comprehensive pre-operative health checks, and who are prepared to thoroughly discuss and confirm all safety protocols for their pet's visit, Pet Dentistry could be a consideration. However, awareness of the past incident involving pet safety on a busy road is essential for informed decision-making.

Pet Dentistry Reviews
My vet had given us an estimate on dental work, which was double what Dr. Creel did it for. He identified a heart condition that my vet had never mentioned. They kept my 14-year old dog alive through the anesthesia, and her teeth and gums are now healthy. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Creel and staff. I think I have a new vet!
Jul 31, 2019 · Sara HambyDO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THESE INCOMPETENT PEOPLE!!!My dog had an appointment there today to have blood work done in preparation for two fillings to be done which was scheduled for later this week.I signed him in and I took a seat in the waiting room. The vet tech appeared took him away with his leash and collar still attached to him. About 5 minutes later the vet tech came in the main FRONT door in a panic to inform me that my dog had escaped. HE WAS LOOSE ON HAYWOOD ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. If it weren't for the heroes working at Nick's car wash my dog would be dead right now. The vet tech had taken my dog OUTSIDE to the PARKING LOT (which is not fenced in at all) in order to "get a urine sample". Shouldn't they have a designated fenced in area if they plan to take dogs outside to perform tests??They were un apologetic and acted as if his collar should have been tighter. Had I known they were going to take him FOR A WALK DOWN HAYWOOD ROAD I would have had him wear his harnass for the visit which is what he wears when I know he's going to be on a walk outside. After I rescued him from under a parked car I left immediately. I called their office and I asked to speak to the Vet. Instead of the Vet they put me on the phone with another tech who couldn't have cared less.My pets mean everything to me. If your pets are important to you too I suggest you take them somewhere else.Lesson learned.
