Choosing a veterinarian is a deeply personal decision, and the stories from real customers provide the most powerful testament to why Shepherd Animal Hospital is a special place. This level of personalized and professional service, even for a first-time client, is a strong indicator of the clinic's commitment to every patient and their family. The family's account of how Dr. Vavilapalli handled the consultation with "great compassion" and "clinical clarity" is a beautiful example of a professional who combines medical expertise with genuine empathy. The small, thoughtful gestures—like the pink bandage with a blue heart—meant everything in that moment of profound grief. August 11 · Kim M ReynoldsAfter months of agonizing over our senior dog Terrance’s declining mental state due to advanced doggy dementia, we finally had to make the incredibly difficult decision to let him go. Dr. Sridevi Vavilapalli at Shepherd Animal Hospital has cared for Terrance for many years—since nearly the clinic’s beginning—and she has been an integral part of his life and ours.Throughout the years, Dr. Vavilapalli helped us manage everything from dental issues and specialized kidney diets to various supplements for his liver and cognitive health. She always took a holistic, proactive approach to his care, treating him not just as a patient but as a beloved member of our family. When we came in for his end-of-life consultation, it was clear that this was not treated as just a routine euthanasia. Dr. Vavilapalli took the time to talk us through everything—not only with great compassion, but also with clinical clarity. She didn’t rush us, didn’t sugarcoat things, and didn’t rely on emotion alone. Instead, she walked us through a mental and physical quality-of-life checklist, and gently helped us see what we already feared: that while Terrance’s body was still physically strong, his mind had essentially left. He would get disoriented just walking across the room.We had been clinging to hope because his appetite had picked up again, but Dr. Vavilapalli explained that this can happen toward the end as other senses dull. It was something we didn’t know—and it gave us painful clarity.Despite our grief, we appreciated how thoughtfully the entire process was handled. Dr. V even told the staff to waive the consult fee due to our situation, but we chose to pay it, because her care and expertise were more than worth it.After the decision was made, we switched Terrance’s food to all his favorites—cheeseburgers, steak, scalloped potatoes—and gave him a few final days filled with joy. On his last day, he was too tired to walk and slept in his carrier. The team welcomed us and even allowed his doggy family to be present to say goodbye. That kindness meant the world to us.They woke Terrance briefly to administer the sedative, and he likely didn’t feel anything after that. As the final injection was given, we could see his spirit slip away before it was even complete. He was ready. We were heartbroken, but comforted knowing he passed peacefully and surrounded by love. What really touched us were the small things—the kind of thoughtfulness that can’t be taught. After the injection, they wrapped his leg with a pink bandage that had a small blue heart on it. It was such a small gesture, but it meant everything in that moment. It showed us that even in his final moments, they were thinking about dignity and love. The entire experience—from the consultation to the moment we carried him out—was compassionate, respectful, and humane. Dr. Vavilapalli and the entire staff at Shepherd treated Terrance like family, and helped us navigate one of the hardest days of our lives with grace and care.We will forever be grateful.RIP OG Terrance
June 06 · KaiOI came here to get my 2 pups vaccinations. One of my pups doesn't like needles and the staff struggled to hold him down. I'm also not sure if its because I came towards the end of the day but most of the staff seems as if they had an "i don't care" attitude. Not sure if I'll use this Vet again but they def came in clutch in such a short time.
August 13 · L LMy dog had a tumor near his butt, my regular vet told me it can be cancerous and it is also very costly to get it diagnosed and removed. I was very sad and quite overwhelmed by the news. I was referred to the Shepherd Animal Hospital for surgery consultation. The visit was very smooth and the staff and doctor explained to me very clearly what to expect and what the cost would be. I was very relieved. The operation went as expected and the doctor and staff were very caring. I am so very thankful to have met Dr. Vavilapalli and the staff who took so much care of my dog. The doctor personally called me to let me know that the tumor was not cancerous. I felt so relief. Thank you for all for what you do!
July 27 · Nick NguyenI recently had to board my cat for over a week while I was away and the techs and doctors at Shepherd took amazing care of him. Anytime I have to bring him in for an appointment or have to board him, they treat him with the most amount of love! Amazing service, communication, and care at this location.
