Southern Crescent Equine Services Introduce
For horse owners across the Georgia heartland, ensuring the well-being of their equine partners requires a veterinarian that possesses not only deep expertise but also the flexibility to provide care where it is needed most. **Southern Crescent Equine Services** in Newnan, GA, is a premier veterinary practice dedicated exclusively to the unique medical needs of horses. Established in 2005, the practice has grown into a highly respected facility known for combining a comprehensive suite of advanced treatments with a deeply compassionate and personalized approach. They understand that a horse is more than just an animal; it is a loyal companion, a competitor, and a member of the family.
The veterinary team is committed to delivering the highest level of care, ranging from routine **Preventative Medicine** and dental floating to sophisticated treatments like **Stem Cell** therapy and **Emergency Medicine**. Unlike traditional small animal clinics, Southern Crescent Equine Services is structured to accommodate the large animal lifestyle. The clinic is fully equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, ensuring that complex medical issues are addressed efficiently. This dual capability—offering both mobile service and advanced in-clinic care—makes Southern Crescent Equine Services an invaluable resource for the local Georgia horse community. Client testimonials often highlight the team’s professionalism, attentiveness, and exceptional compassion, especially during difficult times, such as providing respectful and peaceful transitions during **End Of Life Care**, a service that is remembered and treasured by owners.

They have a strong focus on **Equine Reproductive** services, assisting owners with **Fertility Services**, **Pregnancy Diagnosis**, and complex procedures like **Embryo Transfers**. Furthermore, the team is highly proficient in the demanding field of sports medicine, including detailed **Lameness Diagnosis** using advanced tools like the Lameness Locator and therapeutic options such as **Shock Wave Therapy** and integrated treatments like **Animal Chiropractic** and **Acupuncture Services**. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- We did not have a relationship with this Vet. After 29 years our loyal companion Montana decided it was his last day on our farm. He was down and declining near the end. We called for compassionate care to help him transition without suffering any longer. They came as soon as possible to assist us during this difficult time. We were treated like family and they were so gentle and respectful to Montana. It was peaceful and we are forever grateful for their services. We received a beautiful gift today that we will treasure forever. This is worth sharing because these people are professionals before curing and after their services. Thanks to all who made the trip, provided the care, answered the phone and created a beautiful memorial gift from his tail. Sincerely, Joe & Angie October 18 · Angie Mobley
- I cannot say enough great things about Southern Crescent Equine Services! Dr. Katie Winkles was such a pleasure to work with. She was great when Doc was being a pain but most of all stubborn and taught us several things we didn’t know. Heather, the lovely lady I spoke with when I called was able to fit us in the schedule next day for a farm visit. They were both super friendly. If you do not have a large animal vet (or yours isn’t so attentive) please give them a call! April 13 · Helelanna Todd
- I was hoping I would hear back on the letter I wrote to Jason regarding the lack of professionalism from Dr Libby in the case of the death of my mare. However since I have not I will leave this here to warn others.3/30 my mare came in not quite right - the feeders said she looked like she was going to fall over/throwing up.When I got there she couldn’t get up, I knew after 24 years of owning her something wasn’t right. Her stomach did a large contraction then walking she seemed almost unable to walk normal - no discharge out of her nose nor any coughing. She finished her 4lbs of soaked morning feed and drank 1/4 of her water. Her stomach flank area felt hot to the touch and palpating it caused her to kick at me.She went in waves of bright alert to dull and stoic - to wanting to graze to wanting to stand utterly still. When Dr Libby arrived she began working on her - she tried to rectally exam but my mare swished her tail and raised her leg to kick which told me she was in severe pain - when I mentioned this Dr Libby replied “Well some horses don’t like it” however I have documentation my mare was bred and rectally examined with ultrasound and ZERO sedation over 4x in 2019. She DIDNOT mind rectal examinations. This round she did because she was in SEVERE pain that was dismissed.Libby scoped my mare and found nothing - she rectally examined her and she had some poop nothing shocking to show impaction. She stated mild choke or colic - when I asked her about the stomach contraction she said it can be related to pain - to me that says SEVERE pain not mild. She considered it “resolved” and told me leaving my mare while sedated in stall for an hour or 2 would be ok as she would be waking up. She dismissed me when I told her she was in pain - “no I checked” I could tell even when my mare is sedated that she’s in pain.my mare never colics or choked, I knew something was wrong.Well… it wasn’t ok 2 hours later my mare was found dead in her stall. I text Libby to let her know and I could barely pull thoughts together for 2 hours. She said it sounded like an accident my mare got her head caught in the stall - not true and no photo proof, not to mention how they’re found doesn’t indicate how they died WHEN YOU JUST SAW MY HORSE FOR COLICI was NEVER offered necropsy, blood samples - it felt truly like she did not want to be there on that emergency call and I will forever regret not hauling my mare to at a minimum offer her peaceful dignified passing. I was not coached through one of the most difficult losses of my life. 24 years and I know my mare - it took me 2 months to get myself together to write them my letter and they dismissed that too.I’ve spoken to NUMEROUS vets in the states and in the EU. All of them have indicated it was likely misdiagnosed lipoma due to the abrupt death after treatment and told me to NEVER LEAVE A HORSE sedated after being treated for colic because you want to see them come out of sedation if they don’t do well likely hospital or euthanasia is recommended.Dr freeman of UF wrote an article this January and I wish I had read it before this. He states any horse over 15/18 that colics to assume Lipoma until proven otherwise. Before she left she talked behind another clients back stating that their horse had “signs”- when they were in the barn making small talk about how their horse ZERO signs and a twisted gut - insanely unprofessional and I believe now after analyzing the day and other complaints I’ve heard she’s just covering herself -that horse had “signs”, my horse was an “accident”- I just met her and she dismissed someone else to my face before she left. I truly hate to leave this type of review because I sent a letter hoping for some compassion. I received silence no different than that day. If I remember more from my letter I will edit and update but do not let this happen to you! If you feel they’re not listening HAUL THEM to Georgia equine hospital in canton, UGA somewhere else. all I received was dismissiveness, 50min $500 bill and losing my best friend June 27 · Kelly Sullivan
- Dr. McClendon has always been great with my horse. I trust him. He is definitely one of our favorites. March 01 · Stacy Fisher
- Dr. Reidy took amazing care of our sweet Cowboy! She and her team went above and beyond when he was colicing. Then after a few nights there we picked him up and he was cleaner than when we brought him in! Now our boy is happy, healthy, and clean back at our farm! October 08 · Rachael Dickerson
